Ooh, I missed this part of the question. Well, Kram usually gets the animated stuff (though I have a copy of Aladdin on DVD). But slowly and steadily we're upgrading from VHS to DVD for many of the titles we have.purplebluelove99 wrote:Are you planning to change over to dvd?

Wow. Long lists.
My Disney VHS list isn't nearly as long.
- 101 Dalmatians (live-action)
- Aladdin
- Cinderella
- The Jungle Book (live-action)
- The Lion King
- Pinocchio
- Pocahontas
- Pocahontas II
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Toy Story
I didn't have that many but whatever we did have, we nearly broke the tapes due to mad-repeated views. I'm also slowing replacing these VHS with DVDs, though I doubt I'll ever get rid of the tapes. Too many childhood memories stored there.

Yeah VHS mainly.
I am only 17 and I started out on those old vhs.
I have sold most of my Disney VHS's recently. But I kept all of my 80's White Clamshell Editions. I can't bring myself to sell those.

Nope.
Before DVDs I was never into buying movies. I used to think that you just watch a movie once or twice a year; that could have been true back then since I only had ET and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and never saw them more than that. But then I met a friend who had a collection of Disney movies and made me realize you watch them whenever you want. And that was by the time DVD's were coming out, so thank God for that.

As far as videos are concerned, I only had three movies on VHS (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, An Extremely Goofy Movie and Jungle 2 Jungle).
All the other Disney VHS releases I bought were the cartoon compilation videos (Here's Mickey, Here's Donald, etc.)
I didn't really start collecting the movies until 2000 when I started to buy the features on DVD (as proven on the Disney DVD thread).

Well ... I ACTUALLY started my Disney collection on Beta ... I bought the Beta video tapes when they were released in the 1980s (Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp, etc.) and everything I copied off the Disney Channel was on Beta.
I copied all my Beta to VHS in 1989 or so. From then, I bought all Disney releases on VHS - mainly the animated Classics but some of the live action films and nature films.
I actually replaced some of my VHS with laserdisc first. I bought numerous Disney animated Classics laserdiscs, especially the Deluxe Collector sets with all the extras.
I held off on DVD for a couple of years to make sure it looked like it would stick around, since laserdiscs obviously didn't. I now have everything I want on DVD, Disney and non-Disney - except for future releases. That includes all the animated Classics that have been released on DVD.
Of course, there are titles that have not yet been released on DVD, such as Summer Magic. I will buy those when/if they are released.

I had a lot on VHS as well. I can't remember exactly but I had all the classics that was released in Norway in the mid 90's and I also had some original tapes bough from America as well.
Now I have replaced what I could replace and kept some.
I would have given all the VHS' to my brother (that still uses VHS) cause he is a father of one child. But almost all the VHS' that I have are UK imports so there are no norwegian voices or subtitles (I like it in english, but a little child would ofcause not apriciate it that much).
I don't exactly know how much I had on VHS but it was pritty much.

Not really; at least not as in buying VHS. I only had The Lion King and The Jungle Book on VHS that I (really my mother, I suppose) had actually bought.
I did have several of the older live-action Disney films taped off of television, though. Namely...
That Darn Cat (1965)
Cat from Outer Space, The
Three Lives of Thomasina, The
Blackbeard's Ghost
Swiss Family Robinson (1960)
Now You See Him, Now you Don't
Parent Trap, The (1961)
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
I do intend to (and am current in the process of) upgrading to DVD; as well as adding many titles I never had on VHS at all. However, I'm waiting on many of the Disney films I want, until a decent 2-disc Edition is released of them.
I've already got the Vault Disney Parent Trap and Swiss Family Robinson, as well as the 2-disc, psuedo-Vault Disney, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. However, the releases of most of the other live-actions so far are unsatisfactory.
As for the animated films, I would've liked to get the first 2 Platinum titles, but I wasn't really into buying movies at the time, so I missed them. There is a store in my area that has both, but the price tags are 89.95 and 99.95 respectively (in Canadian $'s), so I'm hesitant to bother when I know they'll eventually be back on Blu-Ray with potentially better bonus features (perhaps more from the original LD's). The current 2 Platinum titles are dissapointing in terms of extras relative to their predecessors and the supposed point of the Platinum line (too much kiddie crap), so I'm not bothering with them. Disney should just release seperate 1 and 2-disc editions of each Platinum title, thus eliminating the need for virtual parties, or god-awful music videos on the 2-disc versions. In any case, I have bought most of the 2-disc releases worth getting of Disney's animated films (both classic and "other"; ie. Dinosaur, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, etc.). Unfortunately, I missed the Tarzan 2-disc CE, but that may get a re-release this year, so I'll just pick it up later like I did with the re-release of A Bug's Life 2-disc CE.
I am looking forward to the 2-disc Lilo & Stitch later this year, as it's one of my favourite Disney films and it sounds like a pretty decent release. And hopefully Disney will cut down on the kid stuff, given the fact that most kids who like the movie must already own the 1-disc version that's been around for so long.
I also missed out on the 3-disc Fantasia and Toy Story sets, but I'm hoping that the Platinum release of Fantasia will cut down on the Kid-oriented garbage, as I've yet to meet a child who can sit through the movie; and Disney must know that as well. If they can't watch the movie, nor even comprehend the point of it, why would they want to watch bonus features related to it? And as for Toy Story 1 & 2, I'm hoping that if Disney does make a 3rd one, it will drive them to either re-release the Ultimate Toy Box set or, even better, release seperate 2-disc Special Editions of both the movies like every other Pixar film has received since.

As a child I had (and still do have) on VHS:
Fantasia
Beauty and the Beast
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Bambi
Peter Pan
Robin Hood
Lady and the Tramp
The Jungle Book
When I got back into Disney in late 2000 I started my collection and went out and bought on VHS:
Mulan
Hercules
Pinocchio
Fantasia 2000
However I then got a DVD player early the next spring and I cheekily took those 4 videos to Woolworths and said that I had only bought them a week earlier and they were faulty and I had lost the receipt!
So i got a refund and went and bought the DVDs!
Naughty me!
