And i can't wait either, 2006 is to far away! And also october 2006!!! Not in the beginning of the year, but way back there in october! Well I will have to settle with the old VHS copy for now...

Welcome to two more members....and it's always good to see another HOOSIER in the mix 8)

As for the topic at hand ... not soon enough, IMO. As much as I love the original watching the current release is getting more and more painful. The colors are dull and the images just aren't very sharp in some scenes. Imagine how wonderful this film will look when it gets fully restored.

If you really want the current (yet out of print) version of The Little Mermaid, chances you are going to have to pay $20 - $40 for used or mint copies available on Amazon or eBay. And the version available right now isn't that great - a grainy 1.66:1 non-anamorphic transfer with DD 5.1 audio and English subtitles, but nothing else of value aside from the movie itself. (This applies if you're living in the U.S. or Canada only.)

I can stand to wait two more years for the The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition, which will include a cleaned-up version of the movie in anamorphic widescreen, an Enhanced Home Theater Mix, and all the extras a fan could want (here's to hoping that Ron Clements and Roger Musker will do a new commentary for this movie too). At least it's 2 years away now, not the 2008 date it was scheduled to appear before Disney upped their release roster to 2 Platinum titles a year.

And I'm not fussing about the redrawn animation to provide more detail in the 2006 version. As long as it looks great (without any additional footage inserted) and looks the same as it did when it first came out, I'm not complaining one bit.

Little Mermaid DVD

If you can't wait for it to come out on Platinum. Then you can always dish out a ton of money for the Limited Edition DVD Release.

Well, I think that the reason why this movie will come out so late it's because is the last of the "better ones". What I mean is that for most people (the young adults ones) their experience with Disney movies started with The Little Mermaid. And as so, since Disney has released already Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin they just have one more of that decade to keep people attracted to.

Anyways, you can bet this DVD will be AWESOME.

Three reasons:

1. They have already released an awesome edition with Aladdin. So this is is the one edition they have to look back to in order to make the Little Mermaid one.

2. As the years pass, that will mean a better presentation thanks to the newer technology.

3. This was the first of the second golden decade of Disney.
