Not surprised because we haven’t heard much of this.

Still no clue as to why this movie even exists other than money.

An experiment to see if Barry Jenkins can make something great out of this.

I’m actually really curious for this one, because it’s basically an original concept. It could turn out to be very worthwhile.

Bringing back Kiara really legitimizes the DTV sequel which is pretty bizarre to me somehow. Will Kion also feature?

Such a weird turn for the Lion King-verse.

I feel like this will be part-prequel, part Lion King 1 1/2 in terms of how it is structured

So they are bringing back Kiara, huh? I thought they were straying away from the Cheapquel universe :P

On a similar note, I think the name “Taka” comes from a children’s book released in the 90’s that explains Scar’s origin story. And the bit about Timon and Pumbaa giving commentary has echoes of Lion King 1 1/2. Certainly this team has delved deep into the fan wikis for this project.

I wish Barry Jenkins had been given "The Lion King" instead of Favreau — I think his style would've been great for a Broadway adaption instead of the "photorealistic" remake. I'm not sure what he can do with it if he has to adhere to the same style.

Well from what I saw of the footage of Mufasa at D23, he at least made the animals emote and show emotion/smile.

So, he’s done something.

First look of young Mufasa from Mufasa: The Lion King: https://x.com/nico_crux/status/1748480128777089422?s=46.

It looks like he’s smiling, thus confirming the footage I saw at D23 showed the animals showing emotion.

Still wishing the Aladdin sequel had been allowed to gain steam. That was a cast I would have loved to have spent more time with, which ... that shouldn't be an issue with The Lion King given just how tediously it followed the animated film.

Got 2 more first look photos here that show the animals will have emotion, both of these were from the sizzle reel shown before Iger spoke at the Disney Shareholders Meeting. Image

Man, that's not emotion. it's the same "expression" we saw in the entire first remake.

That's not what I see in the 2 pics I shared, unlike young Simba, it seems young Mufasa is smiling, and if you look closely, you can see Rafiki smile too.
