Should I buy DuckTales?
Should I buy DuckTales?
I wasn't an avid watcher of Disney cartoon shows - I saw some Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers, some TaleSpin - but never DuckTales.
My local Wal-mart has volume 1 and 2 for $12.96 each. I've never seen these there before.
Is DuckTales good? Is it worth that price? Should I buy both volumes or is one better than the other?
Not having watched DuckTales, but being a fan of Disney and cartoons, I'm just debating over this purchase.

DEFINITELY...
There are many reasons to buy the series. First, the series are fun, well written and have stood the test of time. They are just as exciting now as they were back in the 80s. It has great characters and voice acting as well as creative storylines.
Second, for 12 bucks you will be getting A TON of episodes. That's a bargain.
Finally, these DVD sets might be very rare. As popular as the series were Disney never treated them well, so I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped printing the DVD sets right after they were released. So this might be the only time you can buy then at that price.
Look at it this way, even if you don't like the series (which I doubt you will), you can have them as Disney collectibles. Like I said, these are likely to become rare in the near future and could be the only way to have the series.

If I am not mistaken, Volume 2 has the complete five part mini-series that kick the series off (which shows Donald leaving for the Army, we see how Huey, Louie and Dewey get along with Scrooge and understand the concept of the series).Neal wrote:I saw volume 1 has episodes 1 through 27.
Volume 2 merely said "19 episodes"
Are they the next 19, following right after volume 1?
There's also issues with how the series put the episodes in other. Some say that it's being presented according to the dates they were aired, while others claim the series is ordered according to the episode number. It's confusing and I think someone else can explain it better.
Regardless of the actual episode numbers, it's still a steal at that place. If each set costs 12 bucks, buy them both and you get over 40 episodes, which is hundreds of hours of content!
how many volumes did they release? ive seen 2 volumes at a store an hour away and have been debating over whether to get them or not. i liked gummi bears better, but duck tales rocked as well. i loved the idea of a money bin, but now i think it would be very painful and leave lots of bruises, jumping into a pile of coins. lol.

YES!!!! Buy it! In fact buy a few more sets if you can as gifts! There are 100 episodes of "Ducktakes" that were made that should be released on four volumes. However, Disney stopped after volume three. Myself and others are trying to get them to release that last volume, but despite petitions and letters, the best way to convince them is if more volumes of the three that are out are sold.
You'll be doing your part to help us all if you buy that set!
Thanks!

Hot damn! I'm gonna check out my Wal-Mart to see if they have these or the other Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers set!Neal wrote:My local Wal-mart has volume 1 and 2 for $12.96 each. I've never seen these there before.
The theme song is worth the price tag alone. That's how good it is. So imagine how much more fun the episodes will be.Neal wrote:Is DuckTales good?
The quality of the series is worth SRP. But the quality of how they made the DVDs (barebones, little/no remastering) is worth that Wal-Mart price.Neal wrote:Is it worth that price?
For someone who's never seen the series, you can't go wrong with either of them, as it's a nice compilation of episodes to watch. Unfortunately, Disney stopped releasing the Disney Afternoon shows and didn't complete any of them on DVD, so that's something to consider as well. Would you prefer having a collection of episodes (but not a complete collection) or wait around hoping they'll eventually complete it all, thus giving you more reason to buy them all?Neal wrote:Should I buy both volumes or is one better than the other?

To be honest, while I like the later episodes with Gizmoduck and Fenton, as well as Wang's work on the show after TMS nowed off, they are significantly weaker than the originals. We have all the DuckTales we really need on DVD.
For $12 a set it's well worth getting into. I still need to hit up volume 2 myself, so I'll be getting that soon.

Well they only had two copies of each and it was the first time I had been to the store in over a week, so I don't know how many they started with / how long they've been there. I hope they are still there when I go back next.
I just checked walmart.com and these volumes are $19.96 and $23.23. Wow, I better get my ass back to Wal-mart and nab these at such a good price!

If I were you, I'd check the show out on YouTube first before you buy anything. I mean, as a fan I would say you absolutely should buy the show on dvd, but maybe you wouldn't like it at all? So check it out first. All episodes can be watched on YouTube:

I always loved the show. It's one of those few shows you know from childhood that you're still able to enjoy as an adult. It has terrific characters; classic adventure stories; fluid and rich animation (for tv standards); and memorable music.
I can't believe you've never seen it before!
Check it out and then decide whether or not to buy the dvd's.

That's one of those Disney Secrets that has never really been answered even to this day...and even Donald refers to Scrooge as Uncle Scrooge...that is a mystery I don't think that will ever be solved in history Ducktales Woo Hoo

I heard that Donald's sister and Daisy's brother are Huey, Dewey, and Louie's parents (which would explain why Donald and Daisy are "uncle" and "aunt".sunhuntin wrote:i picked up volumes 2 and 3 today. looked everywhere for volume 1, but no joy.glad i got them though... very enjoyable!

watched a few episodes last night. some very funny lines in it really. the one where mcduck has that castle as a hotel and they find the hidden door and are going down the spiral stairs. one of the boys says "i wonder where this goes?" and mcduck says "it looks like it goes round the corner!" lmfao. and then one finds a light switch and says "i wonder what this is" and one of the brothers says "it looks like a light bulb!!" totally classic!
and the good thing is, i dont remember many episodes either. so they are like totally new again.

The mother of Huey, Dewey and Louie is Donald's sister, named either Della (in the 1937 sunday newspaper comic) or Dumbella (in the 1938 cartoon 'Donald's Nephews'). In the cartoon, Donald receives a postcard from his sister, who's writing him to let him know that her sons will be visiting their uncle.sunhuntin wrote:edit: just had a thought. who are huey, dewey and louies parents? donald and scrooge are both "unca's" and daisy i think they call daisy aunt.
In the newspaper comic, Donald receives a letter from his sister, saying she will send her sons to live with him for a while. A firecracker had exploded under her husband's chair (Huey, Dewey and Louie's work, no doubt) and he needed a little rest. After a few weeks, Donald receives another letter from his sister, asking him to send the boys home. They're reluctant to go, but Donald manages to get rid of them anyhow. But inexplicably, they turn up again in Donald's life later in the comics and the cartoons, and they've never left since.
We don't know who their father is or what he looks like. There are some theories about that, but he has never been seen in any official Disney publication. All else is fanfiction.
That's an unofficial theory from former Disney comics artist Don Rosa, who holds some very idiosyncratic ideas about the Duck family (treating them like real human beings; situating all their adventures in the 1950's; thinking Scrooge died in 1967 etc.). None of this is canon.Dragonlion wrote:I heard that Donald's sister and Daisy's brother are Huey, Dewey, and Louie's parents (which would explain why Donald and Daisy are "uncle" and "aunt".

Daisy has at least one sister, who must be the mother of her nieces April, May and June.sunhuntin wrote:hmmm, interesting. i never knew donald and daisy had siblings. and yes, i forgot that donald calls scrooge uncle as well.
