In case you hadn't heard yet, McDonald's has pulled the glasses from their recent Shrek promo due to the possibility of containing a small amount of cadmium within their decorative printing.
Though, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. I recall some Spider-Man 2 cereal toys being recalled due to the batteries they were using.

No kidding.
It kinda sucks though that I was planning on picking up a set of these glasses and now can't (they would have been for display in my case, not for actual use), but obviously keeping the cadmium out of children's hands (and mouths) is the priority here.

This seems to be reminding people of earlier recalls due to cadmium in this past year, but in children's jewelry mostly made in China. What springs to mind is actually Disney-related, the Wal-mart exclusives of The Princess and the Frog Jewelry: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10127.html
My dad got me the Shrek one last week. Not sure if I'll keep it just to look at or what. I quite like it and would rather they remake the glasses with new paint than cash refunds. Too bad, really.
If its just the paint on the outside, why is it a problem? unless you have a baby who wants to lick it... but for any normal use of a glass it seems harmless.

Anyone who gets the residue on their hands (especially the kids they seem to be targeted toward) and puts their hands in their mouths may ingest it. And think of all the finger foods people might be eating while handling them.
I heard about this. I'm also a little disappointed because I was thinking about getting these because I got the glasses that came out for the last movie, and I rather doubt McDonald's will reissue new glasses (though they might).

I dont know which is more surprising: what I just quoted, or the fact they actually had batteries.
It seems the country is in a massive chemical scare these days. I must've used lead paint a lot of times in my childhood and I've never been poisoned.

You have to remember that people are more lawsuit happy now than back in the day. I mean, there have been parents who have sued companies over their kid chocking on one of their toys... even though the choke hazard warning is clearly there. So, the sooner these cases are treated, the less issues companies will face.
Also, its best to handle these issues now before there are hundreds of victims. It definitely looks like people are hitting the panic button very quickly, but like I said, if these cases are handled quickly the easier it will be to solve them.

well......yeah. You also cited yet another case of parents blaming anyone but themselves.

Perhaps they might when the DVD/Blu Ray Release comes out later this year.....that be the only time I could think of that if another promotion comes along that would be it..
