Spectromagic question

How can the cast members wear lights on their costumes wouldn't they be a danger of short circuits and fires? We didn't stay to see the parade cause I feared the crowds leaving would be big but next time I think we will stay for it. Does Disneyland have Spectromagic?

Magic.

Actually, the costumes have strands of lights sewn and wired in. Imagine taking some Christmas tree lights, lining it as you wish to a shirt, and just sewing it on.

Yes. That's why Spectro doesn't run in the rain. Plus, there's emergency switches on the battery packs that can turn off the lights. And I'm sure they're already designed to be safe from short circuits and fires anyway.

Once when we were watching Spectro, Peter Pan's lights went out but he didn't notice. A castmember in black was able to simply get behind him, whisper something quietly (during which Peter Pan just struck a "Look at me!" pose), and got the lights back on again.

They're not light bulbs or magic, but stars as the theme song clearly indicates. As a former CM you should know this Scaps.

Not anymore. Too many complaints from the parental units and older sibling.

Although I was actually listening to Spectro in the car yesterday.

Where did you get the spectromagic music? I just got A musical history of Disneyland and it has the Main Street Electrical Parade music but not Spectromagic. Spectromagic looks like a rip off of MSEP.

My parents force me to play fireworks/parade music all the time, especially when company is over. However I just use headphones to listen to the stuff I like best (as I do with all my music) or just close the door to my room.

Actually, Spectromagic DOES run in the rain. They use outdoor lights that are water proof. Its the same as having Christmas lights on your trees outside when its raining. There is no danger of electrical shock for any of the performers involved due to water. However, the whole parade is basically a moving lightning rod, so it doesn't run when lighting is within 10 miles of the Magic Kingdom. They also make some changes to the lineup during the rain. Chernabog is usually removed, as well as Smee's rowboat and many of the characters that walk the route are pulled, including Snow White and the dwarfs.

As Escapay said, Disney sells a soundtrack of just the Spectro music and it is the only way to get the full sountrack. No, it wouldn't be on the Musical History of DISNEYLAND because Spectromagic was created for DISNEY WORLD. It's hard to call Spectromagic a "rip off" of the Main Street Electrical Parade because it is Disney World's version of a nighttime light-up parade. It doesn't try to be MSEP, nor does the music sound like it. And both parades have switched places before, with Spectro performing at Disneyland and MSEP performing at Disney World.

And actually, the MSEP was Disneyland's answer to Disney World's nighttime water parade that still runs on the Seven Seas Lagoon. I have heard that they originally considered duplicating the water parade and running it nightly on the Rivers of America at Disneyland, but instead decided to create a land version. That proved so popular, that guests at Disney World started asking for a similar entertainment offering and thus, Spectromagic was born.

There have recently been rumors that Disney World will stop running Spectromagic soon and will ship it to Hong Kong Disneyland. Disney World would then get Tokyo's version of the MSEP, which is really awesome. You can find lots of videos of it on YouTube. Tokyo would get a new nighttime parade and the MSEP would continue to run at DCA.

The newly updated version of Disney's Electrical Parade will debut in June at DCA.

A new Tinker Bell float will be introduced, replacing the Blue Fairy. It looks quite elaborate in comparison to the Blue Fairy. I do not know of LEDs being used or not.

A few floats will be replaced with other newly refurbished ones such as the Dwarf Mine float will replace Dumbo's circus. We'll see what actually happens with this.

There were also plans to incorporate segments of Tokyo Disneyland's Dreamlights parade music into the updated soundtrack.

FYI...An official announcement will be made by Disney on April 24th regarding all of Disneyland's new/updated summer entertainment including the Electrical Parade, the newly updated Fantasmic! and the new fireworks show.

I've heard that the "updated" Fantasmic is actually going to be changes, including the removal of the queen from Snow White. I've heard that the witch will still come out, but there won't be the cauldron scene with the queen turning into the witch. The reason is to cut costs by not having to pay somebody who looks like the queen for what amounts to about a minute of stage time. I have heard rumors that the dragon will be replaced soon, but I haven't heard if it will simply be a new mechanical version of the same thing or if it will be more realistic.

I'm in Disneyland right now and the other day while riding the Mark Twain after TSI had closed for the day, three people were doing weird movements on the stage and checking things out. It looked like they were walking through the motions of the show to see how its going to work with the changes.

That's the first i've heard of the queen going away. Odd that after 16 years they decide to make such a small change when they can easily get another gal (or, ahem, guy) to play her from the existing cast.

Flotsom and Jetsum will be introduced during Ursula's monolouge/singing, in the form of giant puppets on jetskits. It will be insteresting to see if they can pull this off.

The new dragon is already in the proccess of being installed. Helicopters are bringing cargo into the Dragon pit on Tom Sawyer Island. It's supposed to be an amazing improvement. I have heard that it will actually have arms now and not just a head and wings and be much more realistic in its movement.

We'll see what actually plays out in June!

Please no more tinkerbell or mickey its an epidemic. Bad enough that fairy appears on all dvds and old Disney TV shows.

What? No more Mickey? Blasphemous. It all started with a mouse and people expect to see Mickey in the parks.

And Tinker Bell is a much loved character. People actually stay for the fireworks just to see her and before Pixie Hollow was added, she was the most requested character that wasn't already featured in the parks.

You don't have to wait in line to meet Mickey or Tink, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be there for others to enjoy.

I'm a princess fan. I got to see Cinderella and Aurora but I couldn't find Snow White or Belle. I grow tired of that annoying pixie on every DVD and Disney TV show.

There are some who would argue that the Princesses overpopulate the parks.

At the Magic Kingdom, the selection of princesses available to meet in Toontown changes not only daily, but hourly. Cinderella and Aurora are typically there and are often joined by either Snow White or Belle. Ariel is in her Grotto and Jasmine appears with Aladdin in Adventureland.

At Epcot, all six princesses come to your table at the Princess dinner in Norway. In addition, Belle and Aurora make regular appearances in France and Snow White is a regular visitor of Germany. If you consider Mulan a princess, she is often in China.

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, Snow White often comes out for the character meet n' greets in front of the Sorcerer's hat. She is typically accompanied by Dopey and if you're lucky, the evil queen will be nearby.

Its rare to find Pocahontas outside of the Animal Kingdom, but within, she is the only "princess" you will find (other than Princess Atta, who has become rare these days).

Outside of the parks, there is also a princess lunch at the Grand Floridian. Cinderella's extended family usually ruins the fun there by taunting little girls dressed as princesses.

On the other coast in Disneyland, all of the princesses are available at the Princess Fantasy Faire in Fantasyland across from It's a Small World.
