Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
Disney's next teen targeted film, "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen," hits theaters Febuary 20th. It stars Lindsay Lohan ("Freaky Friday") as a New York girl with dreams of becoming an actress. But when her mom moves her to New Jersey, her dreams become even harder to achieve. It seems like this film follows the same formula as "The Lizzie McGuire Movie." Girl goes to an unfamiliar place and ends up living her dream. It even has Lindsay Lohan dancing around on stage singing pop music. The web site is up, but it only has a trailor and very little information. The address is http://www.teenagedramaqueen.com. It also seems like Disney is hoping for a "Princess Diaries" turnout, because the film is based on a popular book. I think that is why Disney haden't started to advertise it untill 1 month before it's release.

I must say the trailer does nothing for me. It just seems to be full of bitching girls and everything seems to be about being popular.
and worst of all the line from the friend:
"Because of you I have the courage to be myself" or something.
It looks like absolute tripe. It's kind of hypercritical having a film celebrating being yourself when what you want to do when being yourself is be popular, famous and attractive.

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
Disney's been odd lately about putting the "Disney" name on things. I believe they've gone back and forth on films like "Miracle" and "Hidalgo" and now this one.
Honestly, it doesn't look very appealing to me, but I'm sure it will find its audience and will do okay. Naturally, I'm not the target audience, also.

Teenage Drama Queen

I looked at the trailer. And it looks really pathetic. I will not be going to theatres to see it. And I for sure will not be buying it when it comes out on DVD.

Ech. Is it just me, or does Lindsey Lohan look exactly like Hilary Duff in about 3/4 of those web site pictures? If there's one thing we don't need, it's yet another Disney Channel Original Movie star becoming a pop singing sensation.
I am the 'target audience', and I will DEFINATELY be skipping this one.

I just got back from seeing "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen." I read the book before seeing it. The book was clevar and funny, but the ending was severely lacking. I thought the movie was much better. Lindsay Lohan did a great job bringing the complex character of Lola to life. Lola is an aspiring actress who moves from New York City to New Jersey. When she auditions for the lead in the school play against Carla, the most popular girl in school, a feud insues. During the fight, Carla tells Lola about how she has V.I.P passes to the farewell performance of Lola's favorite band and an invite to the after party. Lola lies and says she has these things, too, and must dig herself out of a huge hole she created. Disney gave the film the ending that the book needed, and the rest of the film was very true to it. The crowd that will really enjoy COATDQ are the people who liked "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and "The Princess Diaries." The best part of the film for me were Lola's hilarious visions of the lies she tells. I went to a 4:00 P.M show on opening day and the theater was packed. Looks like another hit for Disney!

I really no nothing of this movie beyond what is written here, and the fact that one of my favourite bands - The Dandy Warhols - will be appearing in it at some party scene with other celebs/lookalikes. For that reason alone I will go and see it.
Otherwise, it seems like Disney is targeted a very specific audience lately - particularly with those films starring the cute Lindsey Lohan (hey, she's legal!).
Anyways, the marriage of the Dandy Warhols and Disney is enough to keep me interested here.

I went to see The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, and Lindsay Lohan does a nice job acting. I even read books that would be considered "girl" books (Princess Diaries, for example), but I don't really care, so I would probably have gone to see this. But tje story just sounds so...boring. I mean, Lohan's character just sounds like such a jerk. "Hi, I'm the new girl and I want to be the popular one, so I'm going to have a hated rivalry with the current popular one and I'll come out on top." Sheesh. If the characters aren't likeable, why should I care about what happens to them, and why should I see this movie?
That's why I'll be skiping this.

To Jake Lipson and anyone else who thinks this movie dosen't look good,
Lola is actually a very complex character and as the movie flows, you start to understand and relate to her. There is more to the story than I told in my review. Lola tells the rich, beautiful, powerful popular girl who has tickets and backstage passes to Lola's favorite band's farewell concert and V.I.P after party that she also has tickets and an invite to the party, when she dosen't have either of them. The bulk of the movie is Lola and her best friend Ella's adventures in downtown New York city dealing with scalpers, a stalker, attempting to sneak into the party, and helping Lola's favorite rock star who is wandering the streets of Soho drunk. The whole theater liked this movie. I heard kids tell their parents that they want to see it again and I didn't hear anybody say "Well, that was terrible!" Also, the school play is pretty funny. They do a modern version of "Pygmalion" set in New York with Eliza being a Brooklyn grociery store clerk. They added modern music to it with hits such as "Changes" by David Bowie and "Living For The City" by Stevie Wonder. And the new song sung by Lindsay Lohan, "Drama Queen (That Girl)" is really catchy. Guarenteed to be playing in your head hours after the movie ends.

Yeah, how dare Disney make stupid TEEN movies. C'mon, it's nothing new. Walt himself released the stupid teen movie "The Misadventures of Merlin Jones" in 1964 and its even more stupid sequel "The Monkey's Uncle" (complete with a controversial appearance by pop boy group The Beach Boys!) the next year. And let's not get started on Disney's attempts at teen movies in the 70s...umbreongirl wrote:*cough* I have noticed that disney is starting to make TEENAGER movies. But I don't like the looks of this one, nor any other TEENAGED disney movie. But that's my opinion. T_T Personally, it looks down right stupid with a big fat S in front! T_T

"Drama Queen" opened at #2 over the weekend making $9,217,000. That's pretty impresive. It beat the heavily advertised "Euro Trip" and also beat "Welcome To Mooseport" with big name stars like Ray Romano and Gene Hackman. I know that $9 Million is not much compared to the success of "Freaky Friday," but many people look at a film's ranking more than how much money it made, so it will be interesting to see how it doew next weekend.

From what I've read, it seems like many people make it seem like a bad movie, but really haven't given it a chance. The ones who had seen say it's not that bad, so I think I might check this one out (maybe wait for the DVD though
). But Disney has a right to making Teen movies. The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday were really good. The old comedies were probably good for that time period and seem stupid for new millenium teenagers. But in the end, like all movie studios, Disney makes movies for entertainment.
