A Letter from me! (Any Film Industry Hook-Ups?)

Post by xxhplinkxx »

Hello fellow UD-ers,

So, as some of you may know, for the past 20 months of my life, I've been attending Film School. In 1 month, I will be graduating (I graduate on Halloween!). Just like anyone else who graduates, afterwards is the time when they need to find a job, as do I.

My question is: Does anyone have any film industry hook ups? I currently live in Orlando, Fl. so anything in this state would be great, but I'm aiming to move out to L.A. after graduation so anything out there would be amazing as well. And this industry isn't exactly the easiest to get a job in, at first anyway.

I would love to know if anyone knows anyone or if you yourselves can somehow get me in contact with someone who knows ANYONE who has some sort of connection to the film industry? It would be undeniably, 100% without a doubt appreciated!!!!

Thank you all very much,

Chris

I'd also love to work in film (or TV or music), behind the scenes...

My film production teacher actually used to work for Disney (she worked on "Fantasia 2000" and "Brother Bear"), and she worked on movies such as "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Tremors", "Major League" and lots of others. Here's her webpage at UCF's website:

If she gives you any info, I'd love for you to pass it along! :)

I'm going to give you the advice that was given to me: sleep with David Geffen.

1. Thanks for the info

2. We've had this discussion... if that's what you wanna do, THEN DO IT!!!

3. Not in a mean way, but if you want info from her, just ask her. She's your teacher! lol. I'm sure she'd be happy to give you information. Hell, she's more likely to give you information than she is me!

Well, I don't know anyone in the film industry...my best friend is majoring in film aswell, he wants to be a director. Buuut, you could always come down here to Hollywood, California  Where millions of dreams are crushed and only one comes true. Gee what a pessimist way of thinking lol. Anyways Congratulations and best of Luck Chris!

I guess I'm reluctant because I don't know what to ask, and I did ask a previous teacher (I should find his info for you, too) and he gave me a contact, and I contacted that contact, but she couldn't really help me, so I guess part of me thinks that no one can help me...? I really don't know. And I don't know how to do it..   :)

First of all, Why you went to film school in Orlando is a mystery to me. Im currently in a film school right now, but in LA. I don't see how you can make any contacts in FL. That's what the film business is all about. Contacts. And in LA you would get plenty. My advice, leave Florida behind, like now. Even if you do not know anyone in LA, come out here and you are bound to at least make some contacts. :) LA is always the answer. :)

Hey Chris- I just found the instructors page for the film department at UCF:

http://www.film.ucf.edu/faculty_index-faculty.php

I think that Cook, Wolfe, and maybe Jones would be able to give you some info...?

Sorry if I'm being hypocritical- I'm just trying to help you out!

I'm in school in Orlando just because that's where I chose to go to school. And I have made some really good contacts here. Just cause they're not in L.A. doesn't mean they're not good. And I'm perfectly aware that this industry is about contacts and networking, otherwise why would I have started a thread trying to make some? And yes, I will be leaving Florida, after I graduate.
