Feeling sad because Potter-mania is coming to an end? Don't worry, you have "Dangerous Wands" to look forward to:

Haha, that was my reaction too after seeing it! I'd pay good money to see this on the big screen :).

Mugglenet wrote:Confirmed: Alexandre Desplat to compose Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1
Early this morning we reported a rumor claiming composer Alexandre Desplat was to score Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1.

We've looked into the matter, and after speaking with the folks who originally reported the story on Film Score Monthly, we now know that this piece of info is confirmed by Desplat's agent.

Desplat has composed such recent films as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Julie & Julia, The Golden Compass, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

No word yet on who will compose Deathly Hallows, Part 2. What do you think of Desplat getting the reigns for Part 1?
What really irks me is the thought that we now have four different composers for the series. I really wish they just wouldn't have music at all!

That aggravtes me to no end. Will Desplat doing a good job? I'm sure he will (I really like his Golden Compass score), but John Williams should be the one to finish this series and tie all the themes together. What exactly happened here? We got three very good indicators that he was coming back:

1. He outright said he felt confident he was coming back.

2. Nicholas Hooper voluntarily stepped down because he felt the series should end with the composer who started it.

3. David Heyman said he was in negotiations to get Williams back.

So what went wrong? It can't be his schedule. Williams isn't composing anything until next year when TinTin comes out. I doubt it was a money issue since I've never heard of him turning down a job because of it.

There's still a glimmer of hope that he'll back for Part II. If WB had it in mind to use Desplat for both parts, they surely would've had him sign a contract that binds him to both. The fact that they're emphasizing Part I only makes me think they still want Williams for II. I'll admit that Part II seems better suited to him, anyway. Part I's going to be a gritty road movie and needs more understated scoring (though why they didn't just bring back Hooper is anyone's guess). Part II's going to be an epic climax filled with action and is perfect for William's bombastic, multi-layered music.

So while I prefer that Williams did both parts, I'm going to hope and pray he returns to finish what he started. I want HIS version of Hedwig's Theme to be the last thing I hear when this series fades to black.

Desplat's done some pretty good scores, though the only one that stands out for me is the Golden Compass. I was really hoping for a Williams comeback, but I think this guy deserves a chance.

Besides, now the number of composers matches the number of directors. That means nothing, of course, but a little fun-fact.

Yes! The new composers can't write Hedwig's Theme the way Williams wrote it. They either change the ending or make it cheesy somehow.

I was hoping we'd have no more problems for the last two films, but now we'll get even new themes for all the characters! What a great way to end the series: to make the last parts feel like totally separate from the previous films! :x

Hey Arnold!

anyway, Miranda Richardson originally said she wasn't coming back, but she was confirmed. Clearly she changed her mind. I know I might've posted that sometime already, but I'm just making sure that's clear.

Ok, I was just on MSN and I found something that I believe I should be handing out free salt with.

http://www.monstersandcritics.com/peopl ... et-engaged

According to the article, Bonnie Wright and the Jamie Campbell-Bower are engaged. :o

I doubt it's true, probably because another article making the same claim reported that Jamie told the source those 3 wonderful words that Jon Stewart uses so often. :P They claim it was secrecy, I claim it was denial.

A new teaser has debuted at the MTV Movie Awards:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fk6FR4R_l2U&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fk6FR4R_l2U&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

This looks freaking epic. What I love (even if it's a tad misleading) is that it advertises Deathly Hallows as a whole, not just part I. If the leaked calendar images are anything to go by, not even the merchandise will delineate between the two. I prefer it that way since tacking "Part I" onto the logo would look awkward, and I still look at this as one whole story. I suspect the final theatrical trailer (which should come around September) will make the distinction and focus solely on part I. This one feels like a theatrical teaser, not just something done for the MTV Movie Awards, so we'll probably see this attached to several high profile summer films.

What's interesting is that it looks like the focus won't be just Harry's point of view ala the book. We'll branch out to other characters and see what's going on with them. I was afraid that splitting the story into two films would make each respective part feel slight, but enhancing the story with more from the supporting cast will fix that. Getting a peak at the Gringotts dragon is awesome, and the Harry/Ron fight looks intense. The Harry/Ginny kiss seems to take place during the final battle since there's a Hogwarts staircase and students behind them. Is Harry at 0:24 in the Room of Requirement during the Fiendfyre sequence? Looks like it.

Either way, November can't come soon enough.

:o :) :D

It looks WONDERFUL!!! I'm guessing that is for both parts, since the Gringotts dragon is in there, and the Harry/Ginny kiss looks like it's at Hogwarts.

I'm completely overwhelmed by this trailer, moreso than any other trailer I've seen in my life. I'll do a scene-by-scene breakdown of my thoughts later tonight perhaps, but for right now I'm just stunned. I was skeptical of splitting it into two parts, but that's obviously given them enough breathing room to include EVERYTHING and then some. This is going to be the magnum opus to what I feel is the greatest movie series of all time. Excuse me while I re-watch this several dozen times...

Oh my goodness!!! That was completely epic and I cannot wait for parts 1 and 2. November cannot come fast enough. I am completely floored by this trailer and I really can't contain myself right now. It's the best news since the four disc set of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. Is it November yet?!?!
