Canada vs America DVD packaging?

Post by EricMontreal22 »

I only own a handful of the Disney DVDs and recently finally picked up Bambi here in Canada. My copy and none of the others I saw in the store didn't come with any slipcover with a foldout flap or anythign liek some of my other editions have... Is this a Canadian thing? a Bambi thing? I coudl care less but...

It's a slipcover thing. Only the first printings of the DVD will have a slipcover, and once they're gone, they're (thankfully) gone, unless they mysteriously crop up again (such as the slipcover for A Bug's Life).

Slipcovers are found in Canada, however like the American DVDs they are only on the first few weeks of DVDs.Bambi came out more than 2 years ago so there are no slipcovers on any of the DVDs.

I'm from Quebec and slipcovers usually come with the Disney DVDs I buy. However I bought Bambi a few months after it came out so it didn't have a slipcover but I remember seeing copies that had it in the first weeks.

Please excuse potterrules93, he hasn't yet been enlightened on the sheer idiocy of slipcovers.

Hahah I kinda like slipcovers (I'm anal though--even though I speak french I hate the added Candian "version francaise" included thing on the covers...)

So even these limited edition DVDs would onlyu have the covers on the first press? I still don't really get it I guess they're just limited by the amount of time they're sold not limited in that a big chunk are made adn then no more...

Nope- it's the country that borders the U.S. to the north (and Mexico borders the U.S. to the south).

I HATE those ugly yellow circles on the movies! At least recently they're just stickers so they can be taken off. So many movies have their cover art ruined by them :( If it wasn't for Quebec we woudln't need those darned circles anyhow..

Hear! Hear!

Unfortunately, when I order Region 1 discs over the internet, I always get the Canadian versions and not the Region 1s. For example, I recently went for Brother Bear and Atlantis on Play.com USA, and I received Canadian DVDs. I don't mind - the content is the same as the US ones as far as I know - but those horrible gold circles with "Version Francais Incluse!" ruin the beautiful cover art of Atlantis, and I'm miffed!

not really, cover art is the same other than those ugly yellow circles that used to be on the DVDs. Some of the releases in Quebec have French writing on the cover art. Also, all of the Canadian DVDs will have a French language track on them. I think for some of the older releases the US versions got the Spanish track instead. Most of the DVDs now look like they have all 3 included. Nothing else much that I've noticed.
