Suggestions for newly-weds in WDW?

Post by bambi_nl »

Currently my girlfriend and I are looking for options for our honeymoon. As part of this honeymoon we are thinking of a stay at Walt Disney World in Florida for a couple of days (max. 5 days probably).

We have been looking at the official site of the resort, but did not find the information we are looking for.
We are looking for a hotel that has the Disney'est atmosphere. For example, the Animal Kingdom Lodge, is the complete opposite of what we are looking for. This lodge breathes an African atmosphere (we don't dislike BTW), we are simply not looking for.

Any suggestions are welcome. To get a clear idea, please try to describe why you think your suggestion is the hotel with the Disney'est atmosphere. If you happen to know if the hotel has a special bridal suite, just let me know!

Well bambi_nl, there are many options and many hotels to choose from. I could suggest some hotels that I think look neat, but I have no idea how much money you have to spend. There are honeymoon packages honeymoon packages available. I have known some people who have done this and they really enjoyed it. I would suggest you look at these and try to figure out what will fit your budget. Even if you need to choose a cheaper plan, it is nearly impossible to not have a good time at Walt Disney World. The most important thing is the memories you will create, not how much money you blow.

Oh, and congratulations on your upcoming marriage. As a person who has now been married three-and-a-half years I can tell you marriage is absolutely wonderful. If you are both willing to work at it the honeymoon feeling doesn't wear off; on the contrary, it gets much stronger every day, month, and year.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. We spent our honeymoon at the Walt Disney World Resort in 1991, and we celebrated our 15th anniversary this year on a Disney Cruise. :D We love the resort and have stayed in several different hotels.

If by "Disney-est" atmosphere you mean Disney characters and movies, I would recommend All-Star Movies. The resort is a tribute to Disney's film characters and has character-themed buildings. I have stayed at All-Star Sports in the past, and it features statues of the characters playing different sports, with sports being the overall dominant theme of the resort.

Our family likes Pop Century. That resort features memorabilia from the decades of 1950 through 1990. We stayed in the 1980s section in June, and there are popular sayings along the top of the resort buildings like, "Don't have a cow. Totally awesome, etc." Our room was near a small pool shaped like the old computer diskettes.

We also like Port Orleans Riverside because it is beautiful. Part of the resort has Bayou house type buildings and the other part has Ante-Bellum mansion type buildings. The boat ride from the resort to Downtown Disney is fun.

Have a great trip!

MichaeLeah: Thank you for the suggestion. We are planning a longer vacation (we have two months off of our work to start with) and the visit to Walt Disney World is one of the options to fill in a gap to another part of our travel. We have a budget for the entire two months and it all depends on the additional costs we are to expect for any of the elements of our vacation how much we are willing to spend in WDW.

gadgetmobile: Also thank you for the information. At first we didn't even look at the "All-Star" hotels, thinking it might be something else than you described.

Although the marriage is still nearly half a year away (May 3, 2007 is the date), we are quite busy making all the arrangements for it. The vacation should be something to remember dearly and we think that a visit to WDW during the first few days of the marriage might be just the way to start it all.

Any more suggestions are still welcome!

bambi_nl: I just wanted to add that the All-Star Resorts and Pop Century generally have lots of families and children staying there. If you and your spouse wanted to be around more adults or in a more quiet setting, I would recommend one of Disney's "moderate" resorts. Our personal favorite is Port Orleans Riverside. If you like a Mardi Gras/New Orleans theme, Port Orleans French Quarter is great. We stayed there one night in August and really liked it. The dining area is filled with old Mardi Gras props, and they have a really nice pool area. They did a good job of capturing the feel of the French Quarter.

From what I've seen, it would appear that most newlyweds stay at the Grand Floridean. It has a classy Victorean feel to it and the wedding pavillion is close by. You also are situated right across from the Magic Kingdom and will probably be able to see the Castle from your room. Also, the Vacation Club resorts are very spacious and you don't have to be a member to stay in one. I feel that the Boardwalk is the best hotel for adults because of all of the things to do on the Boardwalk past the parks closing.

if u want to stay on Disney property, id suggest these resorts for your honeymoon stay:

The Grand Floridian
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Wilderness Lodge
Polynesian

im also going to reccomend that you have dinner at Victoria & Alberts at the Grand Floridian. It's a 7 course meal & its formal...& its adults only, one of the few on wdw property. :)

if you are looking for more 'adults only' stuff by Disney- id go w/ the cruise. my husband & i just went on it for the first time & we didnt see many kids at all...only in passing, or at dinner, or at the shows/parties-other then that, we stayed at adults only places-like the pool, spa, fitness center, beach on castaway cay and had dinner at palo- the adults only restuarant
