Lion King $5 VHS Upgrade Rebate - Still have the PoP?
Lion King $5 VHS Upgrade Rebate - Still have the PoP?
Anyone else who's planning on sending in for the $5 VHS-to-DVD upgrade rebate, does your videocassette still have the Proof of Purchase? Mine doesn't. I'm wondering if they'll accept the UPC - what do you think?

Some but not all Disney VHS tapes did not contain POP tabs, just UPCs. I think Lion King is one of these. Therefore the UPC should be perfectly fine.

You are wrong Jake all Disney VHS came with proof of purchse except the ones that came out before the Black Diamond Classic Collection! The Lion King DID come with POP (2 POP A & B actually) cause I have mine! they were tear along and was located on the middle top of the back part of the VHS this process was also used with the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast VHS POP.
So start looking for those POP! hehe not really you can use the POP or the UPC
I must warn you Luke . . . last year I sent in the Beauty and the Beast UPC (off the VHS) instead of the POP and they actually had the nerve to send it back to me (months later) telling me that they couldn't fulfill my request because I had not sent the POP.
I wasn't really surprised though because I notice with rebates, most companies are bitches. So I'm not even bothering this year. The may have changed their policy though so you might want to ask them first.

Last year I tried to get my free DVD with the purchase of 3. I used my Walt Disney Treasures, and they said they did not qualify. I sent them a second letter, and this time I did get it. But you are SO right about rebates!Lady wrote:I wasn't really surprised though because I notice with rebates, most companies are bitches. So I'm not even bothering this year.

I take it this upgrade offer never happened? At least there were no materials in MY copy of Lion King.

You wouldn't "butcher" the UPC at the top of the back of a VHS cover...for roughly 1/3 the price you paid for the videocassette? Well, I used to draw a line there, too, but now, $5 is $5, and I'll take it. Having the Proof of Purchase on the top back of Beauty and the Beast VHS was good - so is having the slipcase since it hides the DVD PoP deformity mark.

yeah, it can even be done without a razor blade. i've used my regular household scissors and have cut them out with no problem at all. just need a steady hand.. don't do it if you've been drinkingLady wrote:covers don't have to be butchered people! get one of those razor blades from the arts and crafts store and carefully cut out the POP without touching any of the plastic covering. it is a delicate operation but can be done without any ruining of the cover.
