Victory through air power

Post by Tony »

The on the Front Lines Treasures DVD does look great, but I am just concerned re the second disk. How many of you have actually seen Victory through air power ?... It would appear this movie would only appeal to a limited amount of people. Is it any good ?.. If anyone has seen it, where did they see it ?

I have not seen much of it, but as I remember it has been on home video before.

If you think that the War Toons in general will enjoy you this one will most probably do as well. Altogh as I remember it is not a toon but a documentary.

Actually Victory Through Airpower has never been on home video, in any form. It was never even publically screened since WWII so getting this released on the upcoming Frontlines set is a real gem.

It is getting a theatrical showing on October 22.

Its in Los Angeles, California, I believe it says. If I lived anywhere near that area, I'd definitely run out to see this special showing on 35 mm with animation historian Jerry Beck.

Everyone should remember VTAP is not an entertainment film. And as such it is likely to be a dry viewing experience for people expecting entertainment. In all honestly, it will probably be the most disappointing thing in the set for some people.

But from an historical perspective this film is A-1 material and, as such is the highlight of the set for others.

It just depends on what you personally want out of the Treasures - entertainment or historical interest.

I must be thinking about another short when I thought I had seen some of it on a VHS some time long ago.

But it must have been released before because Ebay has a VCD of this movie listed.

I have seen it and I have it in my videocollection!
But NO - Victory through AIi Power HAVE NEVER been officially released on any media.
All videos, VCDs and stuff like that on Ebay or anywhere else is bootlegs or copies of 35 mm films. (and usually in very bad quality -don´t mess around with them anymore since we will have it in DVD quality this December). I bought my bootleg for much dollars and almost regret that now. But when I did it, it was not expected that it EVER should have any kind of release again.

And by the way, VTAP is NOT a short - is a feature lenght film, 65 min long.
Exactly as 2099net points out above, this will surely be the most disappointing on the Front Lines Set for some people, at least for all those who expect a entertainment movie or so - it´s not - it´s a war propaganda film. By my self I think it´s a very boring film in fact, but in the same time very fascinating - they really succeed to bring their propaganda message to the viewers.
And it´s a Disney classic for everyone that are interesting in Disney and film history. So I will be very happy to see it in better quality now!
But to tell the true, I´m looking forward to some of the short more than this feature, since there is a few of them that I have never seen before - all the rest I already have.
It will be nice though, to have all this together on the same discs.
Wish it was December 2nd right today!

If we will have a True-Life Adventure Tresure Set next year I will be very pleased!

Hi everybody!
I am new to this forum. I am thrilled, since there's sooo many things I would like to share with Disney DVD fans!

Well, this posting called my attention. There is A LOT to say about VTAP.

I have a copy of it. I bought it to a Film Archives in New York a few years ago. It was on VHS and I payed AN AMAZING AMOUNT OF MONEY for it. Reason? Well, I was working on my dissertation to get my PH. D. The dissertation is WALT DISNEY PROPAGANDA DURING WORLD WAR II. So I bought it. That expensive tape was absolutely worth it, for it let me get my Doctorate Degree.

But hey, WARNING to all of you who are going to buy the Disney TReasures. Just remember that this is A SERIOUS FILM. There is no room in it for fun at all. It is propaganda and it was made for that purpose. Just watch thinking of the reason why it was made. Don't expect Snow White or Lady and the Tramp.

This is an absolutely different genre. And honestly, I love that film, always in ITS CONTEXT.
Sanctuary! Please, give me Sanctuary!
