Am I just dumb or crazy? Why are the Region 2 movie covers different from American. Besides what is Region 2????

They're not always different. Most of the time, they're pretty much the same, but it's true that a lot of times, they're different from the american ones. Don't know why, though.

Region 2 are DVDs from Europe and Japan. If you're american, you don't have to worry about it.

Yes you do, if you want Widescreen versions of various Disney films, or films that have not been released in R1, such as "One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing" (although, why anyone would actually want that is beyond me).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
