Hahaha... I had to double check that I was not the author of this post. Glad to see you think the same.Sotiris wrote: I'm so tired of articles like these. Every time Disney has a new princess film out, we get the same inane comments about how better and improved their new heroine is and how much she differs from the female characters that came before her. What's also frustrating is they never do that with their male characters. They never make a point to compare characters like Hiro or Ralph to previous male protagonists.

New promo which features a bit of new footage, plus better look at the Raya Disney Store doll and first look at Sisu's:

I wonder how many more trailers or sneak peak or featurettes will be released. Disney doesn't seem to market this as excessively as they did previous films.

Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
It's kinda sad and pathetic Disney now has voice actors peddling merchandise. I think they started doing it with Frozen 2. Reaction videos I get, they're trying to promote the movie and create hype, but these unboxing videos are veering into shameless territory. Anyway, it's interesting that Kelly Marie Tran has a signed lithograph of that first concept art by Paul Felix framed on her wall, considering that when this was revealed at the D23 Expo, Cassie was the one going to be Raya. In regards to the new footage, I like the scene where Raya puts her hat back on. I thought that was well-animated. The gag with Sisu wearing Raya's cape and hat fell flat. I'm starting to think Sisu is not going to be the hilarious character the filmmaking team is making her out to be, especially since she's being compared to the Genie in the press. That little promotional animation at the end where Sisu takes Raya's hat was cute though.D82 wrote:New promo which features a bit of new footage.

They still have a whole month for that. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll bombard us with their advertising like they usually do.farerb wrote:I wonder how many more trailers or sneak peak or featurettes will be released. Disney doesn't seem to market this as excessively as they did previous films.
Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
Did they really do that with Frozen II? I think they do that with merchandise because Disney is counting on more money from that than theaters + premier acess considering the situation. I would not be surprised that this film is overstuffed with characters just in order to have more merchandise.
Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
I think Disney usually doesn't start promoting its films in earnest until the last month or so before the release, but the first full trailer is normally released much earlier. I've checked the release dates of Frozen 2's trailers to compare: the teaser trailer for that film came out in February, the first trailer in June and the second one in September. The movie was released in November. Maybe it's because of the pandemic and the fact that they decided to release Raya on Disney+ with Premier Access as well as in theaters. Perhaps they had to rework their promotional campaign strategy and that's why it took so long. I also wonder if they'll release a second trailer when we're so close to the release.farerb wrote:I wonder how many more trailers or sneak peak or featurettes will be released. It`s pretty remarkable how now Sisu and Awkwafina`s performance have now been suddenly compared to the Genie and Robin Williams. And while I can see the comparison, it`s still not as relevant. After all, Robin Williams was an A-list star which pretty much defined the trend of the wisecracking sidekick. Whereas Awkwafina is far from an A-list star and therefore her work will be far from as groundbreaking. And while Sisu is a rare female sidekick, she was far from the first one (Terk from Tarzan, anyone?). And besides, there`s little resemblance between her and the Genie (who could pretty much transform himself into anything, unlike Sisu). A more legit comparison would`ve been Mushu and Eddie Murphy, since both Sisu and Mushu are dragons (but even Mushu wasn`t as magical as the Genie, despite being an sidekick voiced by an A-list star in an Oriental Disney feature. Which was a reason to make anyone compare them).I'm starting to think Sisu is not going to be the hilarious character the filmmaking team is making her out to be, especially since she's being compared to the Genie in the press.

There probably won't be another trailer. Clio Chiang who worked as a story artist on the film referred to the latest one as the "final trailer" on Instagram.D82 wrote:I also wonder if they'll release a second trailer when we're so close to the release.
Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
Thanks for the info. It must be the last one then. I suspected that would be the case, but since all their recent movies had three trailers, I wasn't sure. Plus, it actually felt like a final one; they showed a lot from the movie: the main plot, the dragon, the villain... It doesn't seem they left anything important for another trailer. Speaking of the trailer, in case anyone's interested, the main two songs used in it are "Lacrimosa" by Apashe and "I'm That Good" by Tamara Bubble.Sotiris wrote:There probably won't be another trailer. Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
trailer thoughts:
BAD BAD TRAILER! cue all the tacky CGI animated film trailer cliches one after another...hopefully doesn't reflect the true nature of the film...
Ive been looking forward to finally seeing Sisu and..she's so UNDERWHELMING! Was expecting her to be more majestic, sure... funny, but more awe inspiring. I found nothing majestic or WOW! about her, just another funny cute creature like Tuk Tuk. Her lines suck...I do think her human form is cute and i still like her dragon form...OMG those Disney store dolls are such an improvement over the Hasbro junk! Gonna get me all of them!
Of course they're gonna ship Namari with Raya and Im sure the animation team planned it that way...why else give her that sidecut?
Namari being an antagonistic female character is cool...of course she wont stay a villain at the end...spec is that J.Lee isn't fond of "irredeemable" female villains. Cant have those nowadays.
I agree the side characters are meh...at least the baby wasn't as much of an uncanny valley yikes! in the trailer. Another peak of those wolf thingies! I kinda wish they gave Namari one as a sidekick.

Didn't they start that with the Aladdin remake ? They had Will Smith promoting the dolls on his youtube channel.farerb wrote:Did they really do that with Frozen II? I think it started after the Emma Watson doll as Belle was universally panned and the disastrous sales of Hasbro's line for Beauty And The Beast.
Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
I'm fascinated by people being bothered by the "school project" line in the trailer, calling it too anachronistic and modern. 1, because it's not unusual for Disney characters to make jokes that reference modern things and 2, because this is a fantasy-infused version of South East Asia. Schools should exist, so naturally, so should group projects in school.
"There are two wolves and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. Which wolf wins? Whichever one you feed." - Casey Newton, Tomorrowland
Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
I'm not bothered by the anachronism, people make too much a big deal of something that has existed in Disney since Snow White (yes characters behaving like they are in the 40's is anachronism even if it doesn't feel that way to us).
My issue with that joke is that I simply didn't find it to be funny.

I get that. She doesn't have that larger-than-life quality to her, but at least she's likeable and good-natured. To me, that's a welcomed change of pace from the usual obnoxious co-leads we get like Flynn, Maui, Nick Wilde or Vanellope.unprincess wrote:I've been looking forward to finally seeing Sisu and..she's so UNDERWHELMING! It would be nice to have a traditional, theatrical villain again. Not a twist villain or a redeemed antagonist. Why are the filmmakers at WDAS so against that? Do they consider it old-fashioned? Is it not complex or intelligent enough for their liking?unprincess wrote:Namari being an antagonistic female character is cool...of course she won't stay a villain at the end...spec is that J.Lee isn't fond of "irredeemable" female villains. Maybe she will have one. It would make an additional parallel to Raya.unprincess wrote:I kinda wish they gave Namari one as a sidekick.
The cast of Descendants 3 did so as well, but I was referring to WDAS films in particular.Redadoodles wrote:Didn't they start that with the Aladdin remake ? They had Will Smith promoting the dolls on his youtube channel.
Most people commented they didn't like the butt/digestion joke, not the school project one. Personally, I didn't have a problem with the latter.estefan wrote:I'm fascinated by people being bothered by the "school project" line in the trailer, calling it too anachronistic and modern.

Re: Raya and the Last Dragon
Spoilers have been getting talked about without spoiler bars for quite a long time now. Most of us are probably guilty for that. Sorry about that, DisneyFan97.
To Sotiris though: Even though she'll probably be redeemedin some sense and she's more a B villain it sounds like, Namaari's probably the only female villain we've had since Gothel, right? Elsa and Te Ka are misunderstood characters. I wouldn't even call Te Ka that, she was more of an entity and has no control over being a destructive force with her heart absent.

You know what? There`s no reason to throw a tantrum to Disney`s Divinity. He/she only did a honest mistake. And while he/she should`ve kept the spoiler bar, there`s no reason to be that angry. Everybody does mistakes sometimes. Haven`t you ever made one?DisneyFan97 wrote:YOU SPOILED IT !!!![]()

The fact she's an antagonist is present in the trailer. Whether or not she'll be redeemed is merely speculation on our part. It's not information that has been leaked or anything like that.DisneyFan97 wrote:YOU SPOILED IT!

Oh, yeah.
Sometimes it's hard for me to remember what is and what isn't a spoiler anymore.
I think they were directing that at unprincess and Sotiris, but I've probably talked about spoilers myself in the past, so thank you for the defense, DisneyFan09.
