I'm pretty sure that's not true. Alan Menken was nominated numerous times for Best Score for his work on Disney musicals.pap64 wrote:It's complicated, but from what I understand any movie that is a musical isn't eligible to be nominated for best score because the songs overpower the musical score of the film.

But changing topics I bit, I saw this beautiful Princess and the Frog fan art about the impact the film has had on girls, especially black girls:
http://Isaia.deviantart.com/art/What-It ... -150248640
It was based on an article about a woman who took her daughter to see the film and was so moved by how her daughter loved the film that she began to cry at the theater.
If anyone can find that article I would appreciate it...

That fan art is adorable! I'm amazed at what people can do with watercolor paints.
I tried looking for the article, found this, and wondered if it was the right one.
This Disney princess gets a job
If it's not, I hope someone locates the right article so I can read it too. Thank you for sharing the fan art, pap64.
Also I've been meaning to ask you, who's the bear in your sig?

Yeah, that must be the one. Its kind of ironic that the review seems very critical and one that is very aware of the Princesses' apparent harm, yet she couldn't help but rave about how wonderful of a character Tiana is. As a reviewer myself I understand that its hard to remain objective when something both pleases and upsets you.Sky Syndrome wrote:That fan art is adorable! I have the feeling that while Avatar and Chipmunks were the most popular choices Princess and the Frog likely left the most impact in people.
As for the bear in my sig he is Bert from a Canadian TV show called "Willa's Wild Life". It's about a little girl who collects wild animals as pets. Each animal has an unique and fun personality. Bert is a Russian bear who is always sleeping, loves to dance and is very loyal to Willa. In one episode he suffers from insomnia, keeping everyone up with his attempts to go to sleep.
Each character in my sig have one thing in common: they are all lovable big guys who are outcasts among their groups. Each character represents something about me:
Louis: I have many dreams to accomplish but many hurdles to surpass
Dug: I am a lovable guy who stands out in a grouo of typical, more cynical and critical people, and at times just wants to be loved and accepted by people.
BOB: Dumb looking guy that doesn't look like much but provides a lot of support and is integral to the team.
Bert: Strong and flawed guy with a heart of loyal and tons of sleeping issues

But I am getting off topic. Sorry everyone, but its rare that people ask me about my sig

Well...I finally went and saw for the second time TPATF....I love it just as much as I did the first time...and there was one else in the theater but me at the 1:00 viewing of Princess and the Frog....and tonight was the last night it would be showing at my local movie theater...so I decided its either now or never to see it one more time....(no HSM pun intended) and I enjoyed it a lot....It was like a private viewing of the film....
Anyway....I asked the theater owner if I could have a few of the Window Decals and they said yes....I asked about Tiana and Naveen and they said that might be spoken for already but I asked about Facilier window decal holidng the tickets and a logo of the Princess and the Frog and they let me have it.....
I will always treasure these and I probably think Princess and the Frog is so good and as good as The Lion King maybe because it was the last DAC that Roy E. Disney lived to see and advise on..because we owe this al to Roy's Achievments of Save Disney website and of course because I met him....I don't think Disney Company is doomed....with Roy watching them from above or wherever his spirit is guiding them and I know as a fan of Roy's...If any of his beliefs or accomplishments are shot down or looks like Disney is going abandon ship....I will employ an army like Dumbledore's Army (I know wrong Franchise or Company But you get the Point) and call it Roy E's Army...a group of people to support his beliefs and make sure we use our voice and keep Roy's Dreams alive and make sure he is never forgotten.....

The Princess and the Frog
Well this is way late but Disney's Divinity, the movie wouldn't have to be minutes longer to feel less rushed. Scenes could be changed or whole scenes excised (cough*froghunters*cough) to make room for more thorough development of characters and other scenes.

Princess and the Frog had this coming...

Audience makeup for PATF?
Have there been any postings or articles that attempt to figure out who actually saw PATF? Families? Gen X'ers? etc.?
At this point PATF's made around $100 mil domestic gross. Production cost's been estimated at $105 mil so once PATF gets rolling overseas and on BluRay/etc. it should prove a modest moneymaker.
AVATAR pretty much steamrollered its competition last and this year. And a large part of AVATAR profits came from 3D showings, which IMHO were very impressive.
My curiosity lies in how well the 3D conversion of Beauty and the Beast goes over with audiences. Right now 2D's 3D is sort of a glorified Viewmaster look. Will BATB be able to circumvent that? Will audiences accept it?

Re: Audience makeup for PATF?
Well, the demo sequences previewed last March at ShoWest were very well received. Unfortunately the 3D re-release of the film has been pushed back to 2011. It was initially scheduled to hit cinemas this February, but it is now expected to be released at some point in 2011; when exactly no one knows.kurtadisneyite wrote:My curiosity lies in how well the 3D conversion of Beauty and the Beast goes over with audiences. Well..... not quite yet. But it should reach that mark by this weekend, if we're lucky.kurtadisneyite wrote:Have there been any postings or articles that attempt to figure out who actually saw PATF? Families? Gen X'ers? etc.?

Re: Audience makeup for PATF?
If I recall correctly, most of the movie's audiences were families and women.kurtadisneyite wrote:Have there been any postings or articles that attempt to figure out who actually saw PATF? Families? Gen X'ers? etc.

In the Disney Annual Report p. 11 it says: "The Princess and the Frog has already grossed over $160 million thus far at the worldwide box office."
http://amedia.disney.go.com/investorrel ... R-2009.pdf
Is that number accurate? It must be, right?
So the movie gained $100 million domestically and $60 more overseas.

Anyway, according to the-numbers.com, it has grossed just over 160 million world wide so far. 98 million domestically, and 62 million overseas.
However, keep in mind Princess and the Frog still has yet to be released in majority of Europe, Japan and Hong Kong, so it still has a lot more to make in worldwide sales.

And if you take into account the lower budget of PatF and the high merchandise sales, it will be a bigger hit than THoND.estefan wrote:I'm guessing it will finish up like The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Domestic total just a little above $100 million, but do much better over-seas.
Hopefully, Disney doesn't give it shoddy treatment in the future, like they unfortunately do with Hunchback.
Welcome to UD, Adders!
I hope that Tiana still remains in the princess lineup and doesn't have the same issue as Mulan and Pocahontas. Both appear on and off in the lineup, simply because they aren't traditional princesses. Tiana, however, is a bona-fide princess by marriage.
If she is treated like a "special" princess then it will look like she was added for the sake of merchandising.
