Re: Cinderella Discussion
Thank you for that, Sotiris. It was great reading that. I do hope Goldberg's wish of Sleeping Beauty being restored that way happens!

Re: Cinderella Discussion
As for future restorations, having recently completed remastering the animated Lilo & Stitch (2002), Schaeffer hints the next title selected may be “a little more recent” than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella.
I really hope he's referring to Sleeping Beauty. In the article, he mentions both Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan as his hopes for future releases on 4K, but I do think Sleeping Beauty would be the best option. The current Blu-ray restoration is stunning, but I'm sure it would be even better in 4K.

Plus, Sleeping Beauty's last restoration may have fudged Maleficent's eyes when she laughs after the curse and also fudged Merryweather just as she is giving her gift.

Re: Cinderella Discussion
Really? I had no idea...I did hear that during the scene where she bestows her gift, there's a synchronisation issue between the choir and the orchestra, but I didn't know there was an issue with the restored image as well.

Some of the colors in Merryweather's outfit as she bestows the gift look the wrong shades, and the whole image kinda looks like it was painted in MS Paint.

Thanks Sotiris! Probably Eric Larson, with Cindy's big eyes before the clean-up artists refined her on-model!

Re: Cinderella Discussion
I wanted to add to the thread about my favorite movie.
2 favorite Cinderella books of mine are the 2012 Big Golden Book and the 2016 Cinderella: The Story of Cinderella. Both have art created in 2012 for the Diamond Edition release of the movie.
In Cinderella: The Story of Cinderella, in the dress transformation scene, the dress looks a little more silver to me than the bluer look in some other illustrations (it also kinda looks purple, as it kinda does in the Diamond restoration of the movie);

I highly recommend both books, even though the 2012 Big Golden Book is better in my opinion because it has a picture of Cinderella and the Prince dancing:

Whereas in the "Story of" book, it only has them on the bridge for their falling in love scene, aside from a picture just before it of them first meeting each other:

I am so eagerly waiting for October for the book Cinderella: 75th Anniversary!

But The Big Golden Book is my favorite Cinderella book to date!
I also wanted to say a fun fact. While Cinderella was being developed at Walt Disney Studios, a Communist man named Maurice Rapf was hired by Walt to get more...progressive ideas in his films. He tried to make Cinderella more independent, by having her "earn" her happy ending by rebelling against her stepfamily. Rapf explained, "My thinking was you can't have somebody who comes in and changes everything for you. You can't be delivered on a platter. You've got to earn it. So in my version, the Fairy Godmother said, 'It's okay till midnight but from then on it's up to you.' I made her earn it, and what she had to do to achieve it was to rebel against her stepmother and stepsisters, to stop being a slave in her own home. So I had a scene where they're ordering her around and she throws the stuff back at them. She revolts, so they lock her up in the attic. I don't think anyone took (my idea) very seriously." Maurice did not get story credit because he was blacklisted, he said.
I think Cinderella being angry and rebellious and throwing things at her stepfamily may have hurt the sadness of her getting locked up and Walt didn't like that, but if only it could have worked, no more feminists would be complaining about Cinderella! I wish it had worked out!
Rapf was actually originally called in to make Song of the South more progressive, but his ideas were thrown out when he quarreled with the other writer. He apparently also worked on Peter Pan and said, "I made Peter Pan a villain. He doesn't want anybody to grow up and that's dangerous, the temptation not to grow up. So I had Wendy tell him off." Progressive indeed, but I would much rather Peter stay a hero!

Re: Cinderella Discussion
I recently got the Platinum Edition Box Set from the '00s, I think it was? I've been trying to get various editions of films I wanted but couldn't afford at the time because I was broke. The lithographs are nice, but Deja's Tremaine doesn't quite match the original. I know he had owned original cels of Tremaine's moment (the closeup in her eyes as she watches Cinderella walk away at the climax of the story), so I do hate to say that. Still, the set is nice. It's the only on of the Platinum Box Sets I didn't get at the time.
Also got the steelbook that has a sort of purple coloring with the clock and the Prince with Cinderella dancing in silhouette. That one's even prettier in person. The only other Cinderella one I'd like to get someday is the Target digibook one where the cover was her climbing down out of the carriage.
I've got a couple SB releases I missed, but still keeping an eye out for the one I want the most (the Diamond release, I think it was a steelbook, where the cover replicates the storybook from the start of the film). I'd like to get the Hocus Pocus BestBuy steelbook where it resembled the spellbook eventually. There's one for B&tB and Aladdin I'd like to get someday, too, plus the Mulan steelbook where she's dressed like a soldier. I'd got the recent 4K of Wizard if Oz where the witch is the dominant feature and it was very nice. I ended up reading there had been a steelbook a few years prior that I loved, and I went ahead and got it, too. It's the one with Dorothy and Toto sleeping among the poppies--what a gorgeous cover!

Re: Cinderella Discussion
I am glad you got all those home video releases, Divinity!
I believe it was Ollie Johnston, not Andrea's Deja, who did the Cinderella sketches. That is what I remember.
The Cinderella coming out of her carriage Target digibook has an excellent book inside with even a cool cover of the pumpkin transforming into the coach!
I have a the SB storybook cover set and Beauty and the Beast dancing in purple shadows steelbook and the Dorothy in the poppies steelbook. Could you give me a link or pic of the Wicked Witch steelbook you have? I never knew of that one!

Oh, I don't have the B&tB one you're talking about (that's another one to keep an eye out for). I was referring to a Cinderella steelbook where they're dancing in silhouette.
The Wizard of Oz one where the Witch is the main draw is the 85th Anniversary Edition, probable as crossover promotion with Wicked. Here it is on Amazon:

The 75th Anniversaey had a nice box set, too.

Re: Cinderella Discussion
Thank you for the link! Turns out I the one cover in the set with the witch and the crystal ball, which is my favorite cover other than the old early '90s VHS, I already own from a DVD set around the aughties.
I have the Cinderella and her Prince dancing in silhouette on pink with the castle and clock, and knew you were talking about that one, but you also mentioned you wanted a BatB one and so I brought up the dancing in silhouette and purple light on a silver steelbook with the stained-glass image of the enchanted rose on the back.
I also have the Hocus Pocus spellbook steelbook and man do I love that one. My cousin was so jealous lol.
I wish instead of the Cinderella dancing silhouette steelbook we got the opening storybook, but made pink, and where the glass slipper is, instead have the dress transformation. I'll try to post a mock-up.

Re: Cinderella Discussion
I think it would be nice. I'm surprised they never did a re-creation of Snow White's storybook as an exclusive before, it's my next favorite after the SB cover.
Hopefully that'll happen for Cinderella someday. I know I'm boring, but as far as my favorite film goes, I'm still wishing they use the original poster of TLM for the next release. I've seen a lot of mock-ups like that and it always looks so nice. If I had to go completely from scratch, it's sort of hard to imagine how to get everything together in an organic way; I suppose I'd like a mixture of the 1998 re-release poster, as far as Ursula in her signature pose at the top (perhaps with one of her tentacles clutching the golden scroll) looking into the bubble or maybe just looking down into the cauldron where various images have been pulled up the way she would do in the "PUS" sequence--Triton and his palace within the pink shape of a polyp, Ariel in her grotto inside the sad blue form of her as a mermaid (the one Ursula creates when she's saying if she fails to get the kiss, she'll turn "back into a mermaid"), Ariel with Eric on the beach within the golden image of her running as a human, Ariel and Eric during "Kiss the Girl" in the radiant heart and crown image, etc. Or I suppose instead of having the rolled-up scroll held in a tentacle coil, they could use the empty shape of it unscrolled for Triton and the palace instead. It would be difficult to do it all though and not end up looking cluttered. Perhaps instead they could have Ariel's voice sort of floating in front of Ursula out of her nautilus shell "down" the cover with those images along the trail of smoke behind the voice itself that's held in the smoky green hands in the cauldron at the bottom center beneath the title. In that case, Ursula would be more up in the top right corner in her shell-bed with fingers crossed and a long pan downwards to the cauldron with the line of image-forms, perhaps with Flotsam and Jetsam swimming amongst the smoky images. The little ball that's Ariel's voice that's beliw the title could have the image of Ariel on the rock with the splash behind. The smoky hands could be held in an open pose on either side of it instead of clutching it.
You know, it's sort of interesting they've never used "Kiss the Girl" on any of the covers, but I know they want to highlight Ariel in mermaid form.

Re: Cinderella Discussion
Thanks for saying it would be nice.
Thank goodness Sleeping Beauty got her storybook steelbook.
It would be great to have the original Ariel on a rock in the moonlight poster as a cover.
I love the re-release poster with Ursula and her coiled tentacles looking in the magic bubble, but that poster with Ariel and Triton and the palace being as big as they are is perfect. Even though you came up with very creative ideas for the images of Triton and Ariel and Eric in the cauldron, I think they would be too tiny, and like you said, possibly too cluttered. Still, I would love if blue mermaid Ariel and gold human Ariel and polyp Triton could somehow work out in the cauldron on the cover, that you came up with.

Re: Cinderella Discussion
Oh, thank you Sotiris, I'm glad to see these to download online and now I see it was both Ollie Johnston and Andreas Deja who did them! So me and Disney's Divinity were both right!
