That is very amazing. I wonder if Warlock Darker will show up with Mother Gothel in part two. Just a thought.

I'm glad there's finally a juicy bit of news to sink our teeth on.

Overall, the film sounds interesting, but I'm still nervous that the overall mood will be too hip in contrast to Disney's past fairy tales like Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Also, I still am not buying Flynn's character. Rapunzel is such a strong (not to mention cute) character; she deserves more screentime than the article implies, and I hate to see her reduced to a less-important, secondary player.

Perhaps we'll find out tomorrow, but I want to read an in-depth descrition on the actual character animation. So far, (apart from a few images, which may or may not be actual movie stills), we have no clue whether the "painterly" look is all hype or not. Of course, I hope to be amazed, but when the footage is described as being like Shrek, this makes me even more nervous....

Oh well, at least we now have some real news to talk about!

Yes THANK YOU robster!!!!!

Those graphics are quite obviously not finished, so I don't mind them not looking as painterly as we have seen from other images.

This all sounds great except for the title and the disregard for the original fairy tale and the traditional classic way Disney did their past fairy tales!

The description of the characters, though they may think they are moving way up from the way they did the old ones, they aren't. Rapunzel sounds very much to me like the untypical damsel in distress, actual character, intelligent and artistic (or creative) Cinderella, the longing for something more Ariel, and perhaps even the secret princess living with a nice mother but needing something more Aurora and the intelligent, imaginative Belle, except more action-y and fighting. Pascal sounds like Gus with the fists, but probably is smarter. Mother Gothel sounds like the evil but sometimes smiling and nice-acting Lady Tremaine, though Maleficent and Ursula occasionally tried that, too.

It seems they are doing what has always happened. They have a girl who is in trouble and it's good to see girls do things on their own but it makes a better movie and makes better use of the secondary characters to give them help from their animals friends and handsome love interests.

But I do recognize that these characters already sound different and will be all their own, while they aim to improve upon the past as they always try.

Hi every one !

I am French, and i'm new here, altought i've been reading all your passionate chats for a very long time !
I am here to say that i am as frantic as u : at the same period last year, we all had in mind the first notes of "Down in New Orleans".... Today, nothing ! I can't wait to know about Alan menken title songs at least !... No rumor at all ?
Concerning Rapunzel's Music, i have an important announcement to make : obvsiously, many of you are still excepting the wonderful "You are my Forever" song to pop up... Sorry to disappoint you, but that wonderful idea (a musical theme of possessive love sung either by the maternal over possessive Gothel or by Flynn in love) has been gave up. I know it from a few friends very close to the Disney Production, met on the french Disney forum...
That very Menken romantic idea was not matching anymore the new direction of the movie : boyish, funny, battle... The new realisators have asked him rock cow boy seventies funny songs !
I am the first to be devastated by this new...
Devastated in the same way i was, discovering the Fragonard subtile painted classic heroine has vanished : funky comic barefoot girl on the way instead ! Anyway.... i am trusting Menken. Even with pressure and imposed schemes, he always manage to deliver beautiful tunes, and i am sure we will enjoy, instead of "U are my forever", good songs, even romantic. We'll surely have a "i wish" song anyway, and a love song at least, even in a rockish way, think about what he did in a reaggae Calypso style, or Jazz, or Gospel, or Country for Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, HomeRange (Gorgeous "will the wun ever shine again !")...
Last thing, the list of characters on Wikipedia is not updated, the main and only characters should be : Flynn, Gothel, Rapunzel, Pascal, Maximus, King and Queen (Rapunzel's Parents), Gards, maybe two or three more, but none of the incredibly long list we saw. So, no Warlock Darker i think...
That's all for today Folks !

According to the first Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," discussion thread before this discussion thread, I read that Madame Gothel uses Rapunzel's hair to keep her young forever, and perhaps live forever. I believe that the reason why Disney created the character, Warlock Darker, because probably Madame Gothel does not have powers, and she depends on Warlock Darker, since he has powers (well duh, warlocks always have powers) to help her retrieve Rapunzel back to her after she escaped from the tower with the help from Flynn Rider.

According to the first thread about Madame Gothel who uses Rapunzel's hair to stay young forever, SPOILERS ALERT (that is what it says according to the first thread that I read).

Anyways, that is my guess of why Disney created Warlock Darker. If that is true, SPOILERS ALERT (that is what I would say to you Disney fans, and myself, find me either a lucky guesser or guilty).

Warlock Darker is probably not an actually character.

And "You Are My Forever" has been cut!? Really!? Awww man... I just hope whatever Menken rights will still sound good (and I'm sure it will).

Well, what can I say? It is Disney's character that they have developed. However, there is no image of him, but still in development. Who knows, maybe Disney would probably remove Warlock Darker from the script. Sometimes, Disney removes characters from movies that are unnecessary. For example, Disney removed the singing bugs from Disney's, "Home on the Range," singing, "Heros and Villians," as an introduction to the story.

To tell you the truth, I am starting to have interest with Warlock Darker, because I like to picture him as Madame Gothel's husband. Or maybe Madame Gothel has so much interest with Warlock Darker, that the only way to a man's heart is beauty. I bet that could be the reason why she kept Rapunzel in her tower, to receive her hair to become young forever, so that she will receive love from Warlock Darker, unless she wants his powers. Just a thought.

:x I can't believe Disney discarded the 60s folk music and the romantic lullaby for gay cow boy rock. :x *bleep*
The folk music was a great idea and subtle compared to the cow boy rock.

No! I hope its just a rumor and not true. :o :( The concept of the song "You Are My Forever" was brilliant and the music style they had chosen seemed to have great potential.

My question is, what are "rock cowboy seventies funny songs" exactly? I won't pretend I know much about music, I'm just curious as to what that is...?

And I couldn't believe they'd scrap an entire soundtrack at this point in the production. I mean the name change is one thing, but we've never had any word that the name change would have any influence on the rest of the film...

I'm not trying to discredit you- I'm just hoping that's not true, because the only thing I've really been looking foward to, the thing I thought might be this film's saving grace, was the soundtrack. But if this is true...

I know what you Disney fans are going to say to me, I KNOW: Do not expect Wikipedia to send out information about Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," because some sources are falsely, and do not give out the specific truth of the sources, especially when somebody or someone, who has a Wikipedia account, can change things around. Just thought I show you what Wikipedia has listed on Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," just for the fun of it, but NOT to take things literally. However, the full list of cast and characters left out one from the list, and that is:

Plowden -- Ewan McGregor

Like I said, I know what you Disney fans are going to say: Do not take things literally from Wikipedia, for somebody or someone might have send out sources that may not be true. It is better to find other sources, besides Wikipedia, that tells the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Unless if you Disney fans are interested.

I'll admit, I'd be impressed if they did get Steve Martin, David Cross, David Schwimmer, Jason Alexander, John Goodman, and Ewan McGregor in supporting roles.
