The restaurant storyline reminds me/explains this previously-posted pic:

Is that fan made or is that official artwork? If its fan made Tiana looks VERY well made.

As for the slight changes and references, I rather wait till the final film is released, for all we know they could make or break the film, or be so small that it doesn't even matter.
It's official, that's the picture they're gonna use on all the merchandise of 'The new Disney princess'.

Hmm, why isn't Mulan included in the picture? (not that I care at all).

ajmrowland wrote:I'd have to say that I disagree. I'm a person who'd want both. The nostalgia that comes with Disney's 2D animation, and the originality of a PIXAR film. Also, most of Disney's animated screenplays are very loosely adapted, so that still leaves a little room for originality.
HUH...?
I was just replying to part of your previous post.

I don't know what you meant there, but...
I wad referring to Rottentomatoes.com

I never said they didn't! WTF? Yea, like I said, I agree, it takes originality to take a story that doesn't describe every single detail of how things look and how things happened, and I love Disney for their originality in those departments as well as their originality in departures from the source material.

The Princess and the Frog will be a very original interpretation of a classic fairy tale, and I like that, but it still should be a classic fairy tale. Perhaps you think I mean something I don't when I say "classic fairy tale". No, I don't mean "copy of all previous Disney fairy tales"... There's a classic fairy tale feel. Well, maybe not so much with Aladdin, but I'll still call it a classic, and a fairy tale, at least.
I agree. Once again, I was just replying to what I interpreted as your post. And of course I knew you never meant a "copy of all previous Disney fairytales"

The Princess and the Frog

Post by Disney Duster »

Hm...okay ajmrowland.

Oh, and something I was trying to remember earlier was this;
the newest Disney princess, Tiana, a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter
"Charming", "elegance", and "grandeur", but most especially "fabled" sounds like some of the classic fairy taleness we want.

I lol'd at you people who are whining over the movie just base on that little excerpt. You're becoming as bad as the DBZ fans whining about their live action movie.

I think it's hilarious that somehow people expect there to be info. to be given and no reaction to it except, "Oh, how nice--that sounds great!" So it's entirely okay to cast positive judgment on a film that's yet to be seen, but it's ridiculus and/or close-minded to cast negative judgment on that same film based on the same information?

Hmm. I think that's more than one spoonful of stupidity for the day.

It's one thing to comment on an idea that doesn't appeal to you, and another to say that the movie will fail and that you'll hate the film. I'm not saying you said that though. To be honest I was more remarking on the overall feel of this threads reaction to what little we know about it. I just don't think there's a lot there for form any kind of final or substantial opinion about the film as a whole.

It's fine to say that you don't like her dress or you don't think a quick synopsis of the first 10 mins of the film sounds good. What's stupid is to say that you'll hate the film because of those reasons.

:o Wow, did you notice that yourself? Thanks, for posting!

I get the impression from this picture and the picture of the doll of the Prince (mainly from the skin tone of both ) that he will not be of African descent but rather of Hispanic or Latino origin. The fact that he will be voiced by a Brazilian actor reinforces that theory. What do you guys think?

I wish she had her own distinct dress, maybe if it was a green one then maybe that would fit, but she's got one that looks a hell of a lot like the one Cinderella wears, I mean if people go to Disneyland and see all the little girls wearing different costumes how is someone going to know whether they're trying to be Cinderella or Tianna ?

I wont lie, I aint liking the design of Prince Naveen. The design looks very awkward...kinda Prince Edward but still very awkward. Do we really need another macho looking prince in the line? ek :P

Plus wont people complain about the inter-racial coupling? Not that I think it's wrong but I guess people are gonna complain about certain aspects of this film no matter what you do.

Agreed...the dresses between the princesses need to be more distinct if they're gonna sell. I like the idea of the green dress...what about the one her doll is wearing? (see a few pages back).

Yeah, his design is definitely similar to Edward (though I won't say for sure until there's a better, solo picture of him). His shoulder things--I forget what they're called--have been found on both Phillip and, along with his wide chest, Edward. Still, his face seems more serious and likable. And Tiana looks beautiful there in her, I'm supposing, wedding dress. I'm just so glad they gave her something besides the predictable blue dress.

Well, I'm more worried about the public's reaction to a Voodoo fairy godmother. I'm sure that people'll say it's both a stereotype of African Americans and New Orleans, as well as a promotion of witchcraft. :P Fire and brimstone!

I can't tell if he's supposed to be french or black... It almost seems like they made a compromise between the two (though they could've made him a black frenchman  )

We had the whole interacial thing for Pocahontas anyway, it's nothing new. And disney has been toying with witchcraft since Snow White. What's more offensive is how ugly he looks. Prince Philip was prince material, Prince Naveen looks like an ugly cariature of Zapp Brannigan.

I think that Naveen is supposed to be a bit more latino than anything else. Then again he's from an unknown/made-up land so who knows. Maybe they are just kinda meshing a lot of cultures together to make his nationality. I imagined him looking more rugged than this also...

I just really want more clip art of the rest of the cast. Would it really kill disney to release images of the rest of the cast?

I totally agree! I love her green dress. It would make sense for her to wear her green dress on clip art with the other Princesses, since it's original, and not like Cinderella's. Thanks for all the pictures, mooky!

Well, I do hope all this merchandise isn't exclusive at the Disney store. That way, promotion of the film will go great. :)
