Well, I guess it'd be worth a shot...I mean, the worst that could happen is that they won't ever call me for an interview and I'll become even more depressed.

I kid, I kid. Well, sort of..

Disney discounts = :), though. And thanks for the compliment!

Why thank you. I don't get told I'm hot very often, so it's always nice to be told that. The closest I get is my Mum telling me I look nice or that I'm handsome but she's just being bias, 1 because I'm her baby and 2 because otherwise she'd be questioning her genetics . My Mum would still probably say I look gorgeous even if I were covered in boils or looked like the hunchback.

Ah, I couldn't bear to! I would be like the Huntsman!

Singerguy, thank you! The prettiest forum contest if funny because it sounds like the forum itself is pretty, like it's pink and in bows! What are park hopper tickets? By any chance is that free tickets to get into the parks, so you would just have to play for a plane and place to stay ever 6 months?!

Well, when to go to the Disney parks like WDW for instance they have 2 kinds of ticket. 1 is a sort of generic that gets you into the park. The other is a park hopper. This ticket can get you into all 4 parks during one day. So you could go to Animal Kingdom in the morning, head over to Epcot for lunch, go to Disney's Hollywood studios for Dinner, then lastly over to The Magic Kingdom for Fireworks at the end of the day. Although that would be kinda crazy. I normally get park hoppers so I can go to 2 parks in one day. Essentially though, by working at the Disney Store I get 2 free park hopper tickets every 6 months or so.

Amy,

I just meant that they complained about the customers since they had to deal with them.

And, I didn't know it was a seasonal job when I applied for it. But they decided to keep some people after Christmas and I was one of them :D

....I didn't stay very long though afterwards cause they hours got waaaay slimmed down.

Oh, gotcha, Chris! I can deal with customers...but I wonder if the back room would be more fun? I've pretty much only cashiered, so maybe other positions would be good for me...

I just need the motivation to drive 40 minute to that mall...I don't even know if I want a seasonal job, either. I'm so confused about what to do or what I want, but that's for another thread.

So singerguy, to clarify...I could go to Disney for free every 6 months, just pay for the plane to fly and the place to stay?

apparently. Well, when did you work for them? The Dinsey Store just got bought back by Disney this past May or something. So, if you worked for them before then and don't anymore, then no.

Maybe I should look into it again more deeply before i post again.... lol

Singerguy, I never worked for 'em but wanted to. I was just asking what would happen if I did. Thanks!

Matt, actually, I dated two very chubby guys. But I like it skinny and chubby, and in between, I just find myself really liking the chub for some reason...

Well, the park-hopper tickets they give are usually just one-days, not multi-days. From Christmas 2005 to Christmas 2007, I would get two one-day park hoppers every six months just like singerguy. I was surprised they sent it out for Christmas 2007, I guess even being a castmember for two weeks (and subsequently being fired) in the calendar year still qualifies you for that special Christmas gift!

Still, it wouldn't be much to fly every six months to a Disney park and pay for a hotel night just to use a couple one-day hoppers. Of course, with your discount you'd still get a certain percentage off of tickets (15% when I was in their good graces).

Also, you have to consider blackout dates. I'm not sure if they apply to the every-six-months tickets, but they'll actually blackout certain tickets, main gate passes, annual passes, cast member IDs, etc. during some of the more popular and crowded months/weeks of the parks. It's done to avoid having too many people in the park (and not enough paying for the privilege). They'd rather have more paying guests come into the park than free ones, especially on crowded hot summer days.

Of course, there were always easy ways around that..namely, if you're a castmember with castmember friends at one park, accompany them to work and pretend like you're actually working at that park, then sneak off onto the onstage area before security realises you're just there to play. It's one of those things that's frowned upon even though most young CPs will do it. The problem is that sometimes a castmember might try to enter the park the backstage way, but be totally lost and obvious to a security guard, who'll ask, "Do you work in this park?" And then you'll have to either give up and say, "No," to which they escort you back to the castmember exit, or think fast and lie saying that you've got a costume in your locker because you knew you wouldn't have time to stop at costuming on the way to work. ;)

It's nice that your boyfriend is into Disney and will do stuff with you like that. My last g/f was so into herself, and the "party" scene...I'm working on a nice girl now, hopefully she shares this with me too ;p.

You guys look so happy though!

Yeah, I'll second how nice it is to have someone who understands the awesomeness of Disney. My fiance and I spend quite a bit of time with one Mr. Leonard Maltin (ooh... er, nevermind. that sounds bad! lol ) With the Treasures DVDs of course.

Thanks Escapay!

So if I saved up my tickets I could go for two days for free ever year?

By the way, what do you mean "onstage" area? Can you just go in your normal clothes with the cast members, then run off into the park and do whatever because the security guards will probably forget they saw you and you won't even be around them?

And you know, I somehow must have forgotten you got fired, probably because you went back...well, you can explain in E-mail...

Yes.

Of course, theoretically you'd be going by yourself unless you bring other people with you who pay for their own tickets. ;)
Mike wrote:By the way, what do you mean "onstage" area?
Any area where guests can see you is considered "onstage". The areas that are Castmembers-Only is "backstage". For example, the tunnels (that aren't really tunnels, but that's a bit complicated to explain) is a "backstage" area. However, during those tours when guests are allowed in certain areas of a tunnel, that section is then considered "onstage" and castmembers have to act accordingly (my oft-mentioned Cinderella story fits perfectly here, as she had to remain in character when in front of the guests, but as soon as they were out of her sight, she could go back to being a regular ole castmember).
Mike wrote:Can you just go in your normal clothes with the cast members, then run off into the park and do whatever because the security guards will probably forget they saw you and you won't even be around them?
Yes. But that's something that has to be done either quickly or without anyone noticing. Plus, most security guards know that castmembers may change in a backstage area of the park, then head down to the tunnels to go to the locker room for something. So even though they do try to make sure that no playing-on-a-day-off castmember just goes through the tunnels and backstage areas (there's a variety of reasons, some of which include regular traffic, others include safety), they also know that there are castmembers who need to use them even when they are playing.
Mike wrote:And you know, I somehow must have forgotten you got fired, probably because you went back...well, you can explain in E-mail...
I went back just for vacation, and that was quite surreal (walking around in Magic Kingdom and only being allowed in onstage areas). But I'd go back again in a minute, even if the crappy management was still there.

I'll have to search my inbox for the last e-mail we exchanged to see what the next topics for discussion are. Comcast decided to be a bunch of bastards and totally restructured their e-mail system into something called SmartZone, making it even more frustrating to use...

Whenever I feel like I'm losing the Christmas Spirit, I just pick up my worn-out copy of Skipping Christmas by John Grisham and read it until I feel Christmassy again. Usually it only takes a chapter or two but sometimes I end up reading the whole book in one sitting. Works every time. Nothing says "I'm in the Christmas Spirit" like a book about two people who choose to boycott the holidays and end up getting criticized for it by everyone they know. 2007 was a bad year for me and that holiday season (October, November, December), I must've read the book more times in those three months than I had since I got the book in 2003. Thankfully, this year, I've only read it probably three or four times, which shows that I'm either too busy to think about the Christmas Spirit or that I'm too much in the Christmas Spirit to get out of it and pick up the book to feel better.

So do I! I plan to re-read it when I'm done with Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (my fave of that series) again just because it's started to be a kind of tradition since the Summer of '04 when waiting for the film, and every Christmas since. I still like Christmas with the Kranks, my family seems to have it in high regard, for some reason, placing it in with Home Alone and Christmas Vacation, but I'll be damned if the book is not leagues better. In any case, long live Luther Krank!

That is supposed to be a war machine gun toy. Thanks for the compliments! :D

As for "Skipping Christmas" I saw the movie a few weeks back with my nephew. I never read the book so I can't say if the movie is true to the book, but I really liked the film. I just love how it mocks people who are so into the spirit of the season that they fail to respect other people's decisions.
