posted on this twitter account yesterday http://twitter.com/HSRNY :
Actress Donna Murphy is in the studio today and all the ladies are jazzed because she was the teacher in Center Stage... AMAZING dance movie
and a little later:
Working on Disney's Tangled! It always bothered me that no one acknowledged that using Rapunzel's hair as a climbing rope would hurt her.
The guy who twittered this works in the voice/dialogue recording business in New York. So they were recording additional voice work in NY yesterday for Gothel.

Nothing important, just an optional site. By the way, here's an art I drew that I like to share with you Disney fans, just for the fun of it.

Feel free to print this, color it, and send it as a gift for Mother's Day (which is optional).

"Into the Woods" acknowledges it twice.UmbrellaFish wrote:So does that mean they are or are not acknowledging that.. Cause I've always felt the same. It might not hurt her if her hair is magic. Magic can do anything, even provide scalp/neck novacaine!

WOOHOO! New pictures from te Tangled presentation at FMX this past friday. The entire story can be read on this blog which I'll try to translate tomorrow, since it's too late to do so now. But here's a link and the pics at the blog:
http://esbinaca.wordpress.com/2010/05/0 ... -rapunzel/
Some info highlights from the report and preview pics with links to their High Resolution versions below them:

This piece of concept art was their main starting point for the designers in their attempts to fully take that look of that painting and translate it into CGI. It took them 3-4 days to get this one shot done. They used this shot because it involved many of the new technologies they worked on and included many of the problems they wanted to tackle, especially texturing, and specific shadows and lighting.
As an example they showed a shot of Rapunzel's dress. Due to the detail on the dress and fabrics it works very realistically. This shot is merely used a refference and will not be seen as such in the movie itself.

high-res version: http://esbinaca.files.wordpress.com/201 ... g_0074.jpg
To breathe more life into the movie, things like waterfalls, trees and surfaces had to be created using exclusive Disney-Software like XGen (Grass), DLight, Paint 3D. Advantage is that the production pipeline can be cleaned up and a shot doesn't have to go through dozens of hands untill it's finished.

high-res version: http://esbinaca.files.wordpress.com/201 ... g_0073.jpg
Some examples of foliage on treetrunks and Rapunzel's tower.

high-res version: http://esbinaca.files.wordpress.com/201 ... g_0075.jpg
Rapunzel's house. This shot was used as an example to illustrate the complex grass structures used in Rapunzel. In the final shot Rapunzel and Flynn will be walking along the path to the house

high-res version: http://esbinaca.files.wordpress.com/201 ... g_0077.jpg
and finally a shot of Rapunzel's hair.

Polizzi, just disregard that. Anybody who has a Wikipedia account can edit Wikipedia. Most of the time, Wikipedia articles for new films coming out are filled with falsities. I would recommend staying away from the Tangled article on Wikipedia altogether at this point.Polizzi wrote:Plowden -- Ewan McGregor
New character added for Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," from Wikipedia. Sounds like a weird name, but I found it on Wikipedia.
P.S. The songs listed for Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," has been removed from the owners of Wikipedia, somebody, or someone perhaps.
I must agree. Besides, who would come up with a character like that. I signed in for Wikipedia, I could put myself in Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider's body guard to make sure that Warlock Darker and Madame Gothel never harm them. I could do Looney Tune references against Warlock Darker and Madame Gothel to make them chase me instead of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Once they got me cornered, I go, "Eh, (eating a carrot) what's up, doc?" And once I meet Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, I go, "ain't I a stinker?" Or how about this, I escape from Rapunzel and Flynn Rider until I accidentally ram into a tree, and I say while feeling unconscious, "Anyone for a hair cut (courtesy to the scene, from the Foghorn Leghorn cartoon, "Sock a Doodle Do," where a cow gets beaten by a boxing rooster, and says while feeling unconscious, "Anyone for buttermilk?)?" And my grand finale, "Well, that's all folks!"UmbrellaFish wrote:Polizzi, just disregard that. Anybody who has a Wikipedia account can edit Wikipedia. Forgive me, that is something I like to do for fun on animated movies just for the fun of it. Nothing real, just imaginative.
I know what you Disney fans are going to say: We DO NOT talk about Looney Tunes in this discussion Polizzi. We are talking about a movie that is coming out November 24, 2010. We don't want to hear about people like you getting in Rapunzel and Flynn Rider's way, that makes it worse. Besides, Walt Disney characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and more, are way better than the Looney Tunes. Those characters from Warner Brothers are too much for an adult type than a children type, until now. Walt Disney's characters are always a children type, more like a family type, except that there are few cartoons that are kind of for adults, but most of them are children/family type. Anyways, keep your ideas about you in the movie to yourself. We're trying to discuss about how Disney is doing on their project for Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," materials that they are unleashing, new characters, new scenes, new merchandise, and everything. So please, let's talk about the movie for once. Thank you.
P.S. Your picture you've sent is not bad, but not that professional. However, the more you practice, the more you'll get the hang of it. Who knows, you could get a job as an artist for Disney. Keep up the good work. Also, do not take things literally from Wikipedia, some sources that they have sent out, or removed, are not true. It was made by those who signed in for Wikipedia.
Forgive me again, that was my vision of what you Disney fans are going to say to me, and I must agree. Let's talk about the movie more than something that is unnecessary. I can say this, I have high confidence that Alan Menken's compositions for Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," will be as successful as Disney's, "Enchanted," his previous compositions for Disney.
P.S. That is my purpose for my career, music compositions.

Some more info from that blog describing what went on at the FMX and ITFS this past weekend. We'll be getting a full report without pictures later today or tomorrow about the Tangled presentation they held there. Apparently they showed a 4 minute reel of animation, some rough and some fully animated and rendered stuff from the movie, which was a world exclusive there. The blogger will be giving us a full detailed description later today.
I also saw this piece of artwork on flickr, of the teaser poster of the tower, which looks like the old pre-production artwork is been replaced by the fully rendered version of the tower. not reaaaaaally new, but new enough to post:

the poster on the right would actually be good enough as the definitive theatrical poster. It's gorgeous, funny and makes you curious about the movie's plot. And that's something posters rarely accomplish.
So come on Disney, show some balls in your marketing campaign. I don't care if it's allover the place, I just want to see some sign of creativity. TPATF and Bolt's marketing was so damn bland. These movies deserve better.

I think I agree... The reason I say "I think" is just that I can never see Disney do anything like that...PatrickvD wrote:the poster on the right would actually be good enough as the definitive theatrical poster. Here's a detailed report from: http://esbinaca.wordpress.com/2010/05/1 ... z-barbosa/
Shee was at the ITFS in Stuttgart where Disney held a presentation about Tangled. In this first part of her report on that presentation she describes in great detail the 4 minute promo clip they played for the audience. Most of the dialogue was originally posted and I roughly translated the added commentary from german to english for you guys.
BEWARE OF SPOILERS!!!
[Storyboard-Scene Rapunzel and Flynn in a cellar-like room with curved ceilings, the doors bolted shut with planks]
Rapunzel: „Sooo… Flynn! Where are you from?“
Flynn: „Who-ho! Sorry Blondie, I don’t do Backstory!“
[Backgroundmusic - guitar riffs of KT Tunstalls "Suddenly I See" / directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno on screen]
Howard: „One of the things John Lasseter says about making a great film is having memorable characters“
[CGI-scene - fully animated: Rapunzel walks down the stairs very lively and then slides down the banister - her long blonde hair sliding down behind her in an elegant and soft way]
Howard: „We have a beautiful heroine: Rapunzel.“
[CGI-scene - fully animated: Flynn carefully enters Rapunzel's tower through the window. The room is fully dark and the only light comes from a single beam of light through the window, the rest covered in darknes. Flynn sneaks around the room, takes a hairbrush in his hand. Inspects it and then sticks it into her bag with a grin on his face]
Howard: „A devastatingly handsome thief by the name of Flynn Rider.“
[CGI picture of Mother Gothel: Black permed curly hair, relaxing in a chair wearing a fully red dress, holding a handbrush in her hand]
Howard: „The Evil Villain: Mother Gothel.“
Howard: „And of Course: A Horse.“
[CGI-scene - Maximus standing next to Flynn, looking at eachother]
[Artworks and Rough Drawings of Rapunzel, sitting while looking sad as Mother Gothel combs her hair. Mother Gothel looks fully different here then in the finished CGI-model: In this artwork she is blonde]
Greno: „Rapunzel is a kidnapped princess who is being kept in the tower by an evil possessive old woman named Mother Gothel. The thing with Rapunzel is she’s not that typical damsel in distress. She’s a character, so full of life: She’s intelligent, she’s artistic, she’s fun. She has 70 feet of glowing magical hair.“
Howard: „A lot of hair.“
Greno: „A lot of hair.“
[Titlemusic from the musical "Hair" - during which a lot of artwork of Rapunzel is shown, focusing on her long, blonde hair. For example a drawing where she pirouettes but gets tangled up in her own hair so she tips over]
Greno: „She’s not that kind of girl that’s gonna wait around in the tower for someone to rescue her.“
Howard: „She needs to get out in the world and really live her life.“
Mandy Moore: „She yearns and definately has some sort of a sense that there is… there’s more than what meets the eye. There’s some of a greater purpose.“
[Rough Drawings of Pascal, Rapunzels Chameleon - He steps out of a flowerpot and for a while has the colors of the flowers on his body. Then a very cute CGI-picture is shown of him with big eyes]
Greno: “ Rapunzel has her own version of a little Jiminy Cricket. It’s this little chameleon named Pascal. He’s trying to get her out of this Tower. He’s really like – you know, like ‘punches his fist’“
[Storyboards: Rapunzel talking to Pascal]
Rapunzel: „Okay, this is it. I’ve waited my whole life for this day“
Mother Gothel: „Go outside!“ [She slams the window shut and pats Rapunzel on the head] „Oh, Rapunzel you’re so funny!“
[Artworks and Storyboards of Mother Gothel]
Howard: „Mother Gothel is the villain in our story“
Mother Gothel [very theatrical]: „Great! Now I’m the bad guy..“
Greno: „She’s a bit over the top. A bit passive-aggressive“
[Storyboards of Mother Gothel with very theatrical and over the top hand gestures and poses]
Mother Gothel to Rapunzel: „You are not leaving this tower. EVER!!… I’m just teasing, hahaha“
Greno: „While she says everything with a smile it’s okay. Disney creates these villians: They’re evil but they’re so much fun to watch“
Howard: „When a villian is kinda indivious as Mother Gothel, Rapunzel’s gonna needs some help from the outside.“
[CGI-Rough Animated Scene: Flynn leans on a tree, completely out of breath. On the tree there are two "Wanted"- posters. He's pictured on one of them. He see's himself and is shocked. An actionsequence with Flynn is shown/ The music is quite rock]
Howard: „Instead of this charming Prince coming to the rescue we have a charming thief: Flynn Rider“
Zachary Levi: „So Flynn – not a part of the fairytale – as far as I know the original fairytale, ehm, is a great character“
[CGI-Rough Scene with Flynn Rider, he looks charming and flirty]
Flynn: „Hey… how ya doin’?! My name is Flynn Rider…“
[Storyboardscene: Rapunzel uses her hair as a sort of lasso to tie Flynn to a chair and pin him down]
Greno: „He’s got the whole suave, smooth thing down. The thing with Flynn Rider is, he’s a guy you can tram over any lady and he’s now met his match in Rapunzel.“
Rapunzel: „I have made the decision to trust you“
Flynn: „That’s a really horrible decision, really, ask anyone.“
[Artworks of Flynn and Rapunzel as they try and get out of the tower]
Howard: „Rapunzel uses Flynn as her guide to lead her out in the outside world so she can discover her true destiny“
[CGI-Rough Scenes and Storyboards, action-packed horserace sequence with Maximus -again with rock-like but stylish music]
Greno: „The horse belongs to the Captain of the guards“
Guard Captain: „Not now, Maximus!“
[Storyboard and Rough Drawings: Maximus sees Flynn on a "Wanted"-poster. He growls at the poster and eats it in a blink of an eye]
Howard: „He’s chasing down Flynn. He’s a super cop“
Zachary Levi: „He’s a smart horse“
Howard: „And he’s gonna bring him the justice – no matter what“
[Artworks and Storyboards of Flynns fast and adventurous chase]
Flynn: „Coming throouuugh!“ [He swings from a rope and kicks the Guardcaptian]
Greno: „Awesome!“
[Storyboardmontage of some sequences of Maximus, Rapunzel and some guards]
Mother Gothel [standing in darkness with a candle in her hands]: „Oh please, there’s no need for that…“ [She blows out the candle]
[Further fast storyboard montages: Flynn holds Rapunzels hand, Flynn is surrounded, Rapunzel swings across a deep gorge using her hair as a rope, to the astonishment of Maximus and Flynn - the music is bombastic and pretty trailer-like]
Flynn: „You’ve got to be kidding me!“ [After a little pause Maximus hits him quickly but effectively in the stomach, making Flynn fall to the floor, with Maximus looking triumphant]
[The "Disney - Tangled"-Logo appears on screen]
[end of Featurette]
That's the end of the description so far. On the blog there are more reports but I'll need more time to translate those correctly. In those she goes into some more detail about the characters, their designs and her personal opinions on what was shown (which were VERY positive btw).
Apparently tomorrow we''ll be getting part two of the report about the actual presentation, this featurette was only the intro!
