Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition
Does anyone here know Tony Baxter's e-mail address, or how to contact him? Or some other guy who we saw in those pictures and videos at the presentation for the castle walkthrough?
Aw, Princess Forever, maybe if your mom once walked through the original attraction it will feel too different, but from that video I can see they really care and are going to try all they can to make guests in wheelchairs get the same experience as the walkers, or maybe a different experience, but one just as great, or even greater, as it will have artwork exclusive to wheelers!
Yukitora, did you notice Cinderella and Charming are the fairy tale couple that spend the most time together? And that's just if you watched your own clock while they were together. We aren't even sure how much time they had as we don't know when Cinderella arrived at the ball, it's indicated it may be 8:00 when her family was about to leave for the ball, and then there's lots of cuts and even what may be a dream sequence before it gets to be 12:00, perhaps indicating time flew while they were enjoying themselves. Anyway, Phillip risks his life to go after Aurora after being with her for much less time. Going against supernatual evil, power from Hell itself, for someone he was with minutes in the forest? When asked "Who is she?", he replies, "I don't know"! So we have Charming and Cinderella, spending more time, not risking their lives. Slightly more realistic than Phillip and Aurora spending less time, risking their lives. But hey, that's why Sleeping Beauty is the most fairy tale-like! He feels some deep love that he apparently knows is true love the first time he meets her. But then Aurora's behavior is odd. Why doesn't she go after her peasant boy? And the love story seems mangled again. Well, apparently Aurora has a weak will and thought the faires and the whole kingdom were not going to let her do what she wants. But so is the case in all the fairy tales. The man goes after his love.

I was talking to Disney Duster earlier about more stuff I haven't posted here on the walk thru (I posted sketches of the 1957 original back here on page 29 of this thread for anyone who wants to see), so I decided to come back here and post more info and pictures here to hype everyone else up for the special feature.
Here's more sketches from Earle that weren't used for the walk-thru that you can see on the SE DVD:

Here are sketches by Ken Anderson for the interior. It gives an example of how dark and detailed the hallways were.

Here's a picture from 1957 of (left to right) Fred Joerger, Walt Disney, and castle interior designing Imagineers Claude Coats and Ken Anderson showing off a mockup model of one of the interior models. I noticed too that right behind Ken's head, we can see part of a concept sketch that I've never seen before for the walk-thru, but unfortunately I can't make out what it is.

And finally, here's a cut-away diagram of how the castle walk thru is set up from the E-Ticket magazine.

Here's how the originals were originally laid out:
1957-1977 version (the one that will be on the DVD)
Scene 1 - The Burning of the Spinning Wheels
2 - The Three Fairies Watch Over Baby Aurora
3 - Aurora's Pricked The Spinning Wheel
4 - Banquet Hall Under The Sleeping Spell
5 - Sleeping Aurora
6 - Meet Maleficent's Demons
7 - Demons Fly From Forbidden Mountain to Stefan's Castle
8 - Bottomless Pit
9 - Maleficent Celebrates the Triumph of Evil
10 - Phillip Locked in Cell/ Waltz of the Spinning Wheels
11 - Phillip Awakens Aurora/ Maleficent's Shadow
1977-2001 Version
Scene 1 - Gentry and Nobility Procession to Stefan's Castle
2 - Maleficent Bestows Her Curse
3 - The Burning of the Spinning Wheels
4 - Aurora and the Fairies in the Forest
5 - Aurora Dances with the Owl as Phillip and Samson Watch
6 - "Mystery Scene"
7 - Maleficent Admonishes Her Army of Goons
8 - Aurora Walks to the Tower
9 - Phillip Battles Maleficent
10 - Phillip Awakens Aurora
11 - Phillip and Aurora Dance Together
A few other interesting tidbits: Shirley Temple was present at the opening of the walk-thru, with her and Walt dedicating the opening of the attractions. The original walk-thru attraction was a lot like the original Fantasyland dark rides, with lots of illusions and tricks, darker tone, and cutout figures with blacklight and painted dioramas and sets. After 1977, the attraction was renovated more, to help follow the movie more closely. In the process, sadly most of Earle's original scenes he created specifically for the attraction were taken out, and many of the beautifully painted stylized cutout figures and sets and illusions were replaced by static Emporium window-like dolls to tell a story exactly like the film. From the interviews though, happily it sounds like Tony and the other Imagineers want to bring back the walk thru in the style of Earle, Anderson, and Coats's stylized and illusion-filled walk thru from 1957, and the walk thru on the DVD will be a recreation of the original 57 version as well.

WOW thanks for the GREAT post Phillipfan! I love how the E-Ticket sometimes had drawings of original attraction layouts and I found this one to be quite interesting. More than anything else, the Walkthourgh (both the bonus features and the actual attraction) is what has got my excited for this DVD/Blu-ray release.

Thanks! I always got those confused for some reason ><; Too bad I don't think I'll ever be getting to California or France to see SB's castle...Wonderlicious wrote: The Sleeping Beauty Castle (which we're referring to in this topic) can be found at Disneyland in California. The Cinderella Castle is the one at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, which I'm guessing is what I think you're referring to as being the big one in the commercials (that one often gets shown in Disney theme park adverts over here in the UK). There's also a Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris (albeit a more fairy-like one).

At the Disney store you get free Lithographs if you pre-order the dvd there. I don't think the Disney store will have it in blu-ray at there store. Maybe you can still get the Lithographs if you purchased the dvd when it comes out, but to make sure I get my Lithographs I am going to pre-order it.
Does anyone know if any other stores will be giving gifts with this dvd and/or blu-ray edition? Even though I most likely will not have a blu-ray player by October I am going to go ahead and purchase this movie on blu-ray as well in October, so if another store has a gift when you purchase this blu-ray and/or dvd I might want to purchase the blu-ray there.
I plan to get my blu-ray player when I get back from my birthday DisneyWorld vacation in Jan/Feb and I believe Sleeping Beauty will be the first blu-ray movie that I watch
I have my Sleeping Beauty Special Edition dvd and my vhs copy put away for right now. The last time that I watched this movie was in October 2007. I put them away, because I feel like if I wait until the new Sleeping Beauty dvd edition "The Platinum Edition" comes out before I watch the film again that it will enjoy the Magic of this new dvd edition even more when it comes out
When the Platinum dvd Edition is out I will bring my Special dvd Edition and VHS copy back out. I want to watch it on the Platinum dvd Edition first and after that I will watch the movie on the Special dvd edition and on my VHS copy.

Interesting...JDCB1986 wrote:pre-ordering the bluray from the disney store will get you a bonus disc and a coupon for 15% off of your next purchase.
According to the Disney Store Blu-Ray listing, the bonus DVD contains the following:
-Digitally restored ''Sleeping Beauty''
-''Once Upon a Dream'' music video performed by Emily Osment
-Fun facts
-Disney song selection
-Academy Award®-winning short ''Grand Canyon'' (I guess it's included after all!)
-The Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky Story
-Audio commentary
It looks like this will be the set-up for the first disc in the two-disc DVD & Blu-Ray, though I have no idea why it's being included with the Blu-Ray. I think it may have a digital copy (unless I heard wrong somewhere). Still, if the bonus DVD in the Blu-Ray contains "Grand Canyon" while the regular two-disc DVD doesn't, I'll be upset.

Who?.
Did anyone heard about a Sleeping Beauty game? espically a DS one?(That's one of the reasons I was happy to see that there's a Sleeping Beauty and Friends album, since it's getting the usual Princess film's PEs treatment),they didn't even updated the official website (Anyway I"m sure that there will be one,and it will be one of the prizes of the sweepstakes).

I know the online store pre-order is sometimes different from buying it at the Disney Store itself. So, I'm still waiting to see if and when they'll be doing the lithographs. I was able to pre-order my copy of "Enchanted" on blu-ray so I would be surprised if you couldn't pre-order "Sleeping Beauty" on blu-ray from the store.
"I'm the man who keeps it spinnin' round - Mr. Corny Collins with the latest, greatest, Baltimore sound!" - Corny Collins (Hairspray).
Do you think the Blu-ray with Bonus DVD will become a rare item? I'm planning to buy it on Blu-ray (even if I don't have a player) but well, it would cost $30 on DisneyShopping.com, and on Amazon it is listed at $24 I think. Is it worthy to get the Bonus DVD as a collectable?

I'm confused. Is the bonus disc only available from the Disney Store or is it the first disc for the DVD/Blu-ray?
