I was born in 1988. My first disney movie I remember seeing in theatres was Beauty and the Beast in 1991. The first Disney video I remember owning was Lady and the Tramp. After Beauty and the Beast, I saw Aladdin, Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, and Hercules (which was the last Disney animated movie I saw in theatres). I started my disney dvd collection in 2001 with Snow White. I now own such disney dvds as Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp, and Lion King.

Mickey Mouse and I were best friends since I was 2. I'm already 17. I was born in 1988. Mickey has always been my favorite cartoon character. I grew up with him. I had this huge collection of Mickey stuff(clothes, bags, you name it). My Disney obsession all started with Mickey.

As I was growing up, my Disney obsession became stronger. I grew up in the Disney Renaissance period and the first movie I've seen in theaters was Beauty and the Beast in 1991. Then came Aladdin and The Lion King. I have always remembered how much I loved TLK that time. Disney has been releasing a new film every year and I went to see them all. I loved them all. I also have my VHS tapes. I had my TLM VHs which I play the most as it was my favorite film of all time.

So, as you can see, It all started with a mouse.

I had the great luck of having a father who loves Disney. So when I was growing up, we always watched Disney movies and tv shows.
Also, my father had a large collection of Mickey Mouse comic books (there's a popular mag for kids here in Germany, with comics and so on), so I could read them too.
Unfornunately, my parents got divorced when I was 6 and I haven't met my father for several years now (because of his drinking problem I rather stay away from him), but I guess it's because of him that I love Disney so much and I really don't regret that. ;)

Been a disney fan since I was born in 86. My room was already covered in disney merchandise since I was 1. Had a mickey themed first birthday and first halloween costume. The Little mermaid was my first obsession, and the first movie I saw in theaters. Grew up with it constantly and still obviously love it today.

Well I was introduced to Disney when I was lil one (born in 1988) and 3 lil pigs played on my tv and while I was fiddling around with the clicker's buttons, I managed to put Closed Captions on the screen, reading each word that showed up then my parents took my bros/sis and I to Disneyland every spring break till we hitted Teenagers, Disney had made a tremendous impact on my personality, being young at heart and reasonable by personality. I even managed to go to the studios for a Junior class project in 2005 during High School, while having a chance to meet Dave Smith in the Disney Archives. As I got older and learned more bout the company...I had an open mind to everything (expect politcs) and I just like Disney cause of the achievements and impact that Walt and team made on our history.

Introducing Ktrek

Post by Ktrek »

I thought I might take a minute and introduce myself since I am new to the board.

First let me say that I am a huge Disney fan. My Grandmother, and my Mother, were both Disney fans, and they both passed their love of Disney down to me. I'm currently 50 years old and have watched Disney films in theaters and on TV most of my life. My earliest remembrances are of watching The Wonderful World of Disney on TV on Sunday's and coming home from school to watch the original Mickey Mouse Club (all of us young boys were in love with Annette Funicello Image). On Saturdays my brother and I went to the local movie theater which showed almost every Disney film released at that time. I saw all the True Life Adventure films in this theater and most of the Disney shorts and animated and live action features. I have very fond memories of that time of my life.

During my young adult years I took my daughter to see the Disney films as they re-released the classic films to the theater or new films. When VHS came along I started collecting the Disney animated films and now on DVD. One comment I would add about the release of these films, as much as I enjoy owning them, is that they have lost some of the "specialness" that they had to me as a kid, knowing that I may never see the film again. Easy access has taken away some of the magic of the Disney films. Feel free to agree or disagree with me about that.

I think Disney kind of lost their way for a while there in the 1990s but they seem to be making an effort to get back to their roots, which hopefully will give Disney another rebirth of creativity.

I have a couple other real interests or hobbies. First of all I am a huge Star Trek fan and thus my handle "Ktrek". The K for Kevin, my first name, and trek for Star Trek. I have been a fan of the show since I was 10 years old and own every episode ever made for all incarnations of Star Trek and almost every book and magazine published about the show, fiction and non-fiction.

Another interest I have is classic films. Turner Classic Movies and Fox Movie Channel are favorites with me and I Co-Administrate a message board devoted to classic films called "The Golden Age of Hollywood". We have over 500 members and love to discuss anything related to classic movies or movies in general. Here is a link for those curious Disney fans who also like classic films. http://www.goldenageofhollywood.com

Music is another interest of mine, and especially pop and Big Band music from the 1920s to the 1950s. Artists like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, The Dorsey Brothers, Harry James, Glenn Miller, Andrew Sisters, Boswell Sisters, Artie Shaw etc. etc. I like some rock, but as I get older I find that more and more my interests take me to the past, when times were simpler and less complicated. I also enjoy traditional Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Classical, and Broadway Musicals.

In my personal life I am happily married to a wonderful Christian woman and work in the field of Environmental Safety. I love cats and own two Persians who are our mischievious children around the house and provide much entertainment that we call "Catavision". Most of our free time is spent watching our 50 inch plasma with surround sound stereo. I have little use for most modern TV and so almost all my viewing is done with DVD or if I do watch TV it is mostly watching Boomerang, TCM, Fox Movie Channel, TV Land, HGTV or Food networks. I also waste a lot of time with computers and the Internet.

Anyway, that should give the older members some clue as to who I am. Feel free to ask me direct questions if you want more information.

Yea, I do disagree. When I was a little kid, I watched Disney movies over and over, as much as I wanted, and never got tired of it. It was the ones I owned, and although I had an aunt with lots of Disney VHS's I didn't have, I still liked watching the tapes I owned over and over, never begging to see a different one. I also remember borrowing the same Disney movies from the library many, many times.

Now, I'm older, and all Disney movies, even my favorites, have lost some of their magic. I tend to enjoy things more if I've never seen them before, you know? So since I've seen them so much, I guess I've tired of them.

But because they lost some of their magic for me now that I'm older, and the movies have lost the magic for you now that you're older, I don't think owning them makes them lose their magic, but growing up. Which plainly, flat out sucks.

I can certainly understand what you're saying here and I agree to some extent. Having it "all" in a collection, though, is still great, and most probably outweighs the "specialness" factor of seeing something once and perhaps never again. Then there's the general "problem of growing up" - one might never again be able to see it like one did as a kid. On the other hand, I've gathered a lot of books and knowledge about the subject, so I'm also able to see what I never could before. I really don't complain.

I think if you've lost the magic with something, you just need to give yourself a long break from watching it, so it will be fresher when you come to see it again. I used to have all the Doctor Who episodes on video, and I sold all my videos when DVD started becoming popular. But with Doctor Who, the release rate was fairly slow - it's actually being increased now because of the huge success of the new series, but it's still only going to be around 1 story a month. But this means that when a new story comes out on DVD, I'm getting the chance to see it after a long period of absence, and I'm enjoying rediscovering the show. It's helped that they usually have a good selection of extra's on these discs which also give a new perspective on the show. So if you've tired a bit of your Disney movies, stick them on a shelf for a while, and then, when you're ready, dust them down and be prepared to experience the magic again.

Hi!!

I'm new here. My name is Brian (Obviously) and I too am a Disney fan. I stumbled across your site about 2 months ago and it's taken me that long to read all the wonderful info you have here. I actually just moved to Orlando earlier this year so my family is looking forward to going to Walt Disney World next year.

The first book I ever read to anyone was "Peter Pan" so you know I'm excited about the DVD coming out in March. I also went into the video store on Christmas Eve and very casually asked for a DVD and they had it in the back buried underneath other movies.......Snow White and the Seven Dwarves 2 Disk Platinum Edition!!

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone!! Hope to talk to you all soon!!

Welcome, BrianG! It's cool that the first book you read to a person was Peter Pan, and your love for it is still with you so the movie is so special to you and the DVD will be special to you. Did you read Barrie's original Peter Pan or a different version, like the Disney version adapted into a book?

Welcome UmbrellaFish. I love your new Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo signature! At first I totally thought it was from the original Cinderella, so now I really appreciate the good animation of Cinderella III: A Twist In Time! So thank you for doing that for me!

Hi everyone!

I'm a frequent visiter of the forum...and Ultimate Disney of course . I got tired of reading the posts without replying so I finally decided to make an account.

Anyways, I'm sure this isn't any different from any of the other members but I love the Disney company. Disney has always been a source of magic, starting from my first VHS tapes as a toddler to the DVDS that I buy today.

I currently live in Southern California so I visit Disneyland at least twice a month :) I have to get my Disneyland fix every two weeks otherwise I suffer from Matterhorn-deprivation, Pirates-deprivation, Thunder Mountain-deprivation...and the list goes on

Other than Disney I enjoy painting, knitting, scrapbooking, reading, and listening to music (I love Jack Johnson :))

I hope I can contribute to the community! Now if I can only get the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack out of my head....

That's enough with the instruction manual. Hello to UltimateDisney and yes, my name is indeed Prudence. I'm a 17-year-old working sorority girl, dually enrolled in high school and college, who has been known to be mistaken for Anneliese van der Pol and has continually been called anal-retentive.

I have a friend who moved to Florida and plays Aurora in DisneyWorld, but I can't play one of the princesses myself. I'm too tall! So I compiled a list of the main six princesses to double-check the proportions:

Snow White - My favorite, but she's shorter than Cinderella.
Cinderella - Ahaha, don't even start.
Aurora - Why not? Any official information her height?
Belle - Same as Aurora, although I'd make a better Aurora than I would Belle.
Ariel - Too short.
Jasmine - Much too short; I read somewhere that she's around 5 feet.

So if I were to audition for a role in DisneyWorld, I would probably end up playing one of the villains. Which is fine by me, but I'm too young in the face to play most of them. (I beith only 17, remember?)

Shall we continue with the instruction manual? "NO!" Fine, then I shall just give out rather useless information about myself that has not already been covered.

- I'm allergic to bee stings, and nothing else.

- When I was little, I thought that Dr. Seuss characters would come out of the books and chase me. No other fictional characters could, only the works of Dr. Seuss.

- I also thought Dr. Seuss looked like the Cat in the Hat, with glasses and a stethoscope.

- My favorite Disney channel actress will always be Lalaine. <3 <3 <3

- Genetics say my first child will most likely be a girl that looks like Lalaine. That obviously depends on who her father is, but to be honest ~ ~

- Pullip dolls are wonderful. "You interrupted me."

- To those familiar with the world of Harry Potter, I am - apparently - "a Slytherin girl with huge amounts of Ravenclaw and a hidden Hufflepuff side."

- Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet is my favorite Disney *heroine.* There are a lot of Disney women that I love, but I wouldn't classify them as heroines. (I wouldn't classify myself as a heroine, either!)

- If I see another avatar about "the constipation that's gripping the nation," I am going to poke my computer with something sharp. There's none of those avatars here; twas referring to other boards.

- I frequently talk in Colonial terms online.

- After Prudence, the Disney character I relate the most to is Ting-Ting from Mulan II.

- Then Captain Amelia.

- Maybe.

- Or maybe Queen Hippsodeth from the Aladdin T.V. series.

- Yes, I actually like prunes.

- I'm eating oatmeal while writing this at 3 in the morning, and it's gross. (The oatmeal is gross, not what I'm writing.)

- I'm basically insomniac, so I've usually got a lot of things done before the sun rises. Which is good, what with my schedule.

- What I want to this evening is watch Cinderella III with my best friend, who shall always be Cinderella to me. What I'll probably do this evening is get stuck tutoring math to someone. Which really sucks, because that means Baylus will probably run in the library and be a dork, which will make everything take longer. That, or he'll also be watching the movie without me. I'll get him if he does. I don't think I could pound Abby Enchanted without consequences.

- That's disgusting; the oatmeal turned cold in one second.

- I will remember millions of other things once I have clicked "submit."

The first Disney movie - or movie, period - that I "saw" was The Little Mermaid. However, I was unborn and don't remember a thing about that event.

For the longest time, the only videos I owned were Snow White and (non-Disney) the animated Grinch. You know, the green person who tried to steal Christmas from the Who's.

I vividly remember seeing everything from Beauty and the Beast to Mulan in the theaters, and finally owning the stories on VHS.

I have so many "experience" stories with Cinderella that I would just bore you if I told you of them all.

The only things I remembered about The Hunchback of Notre Dame after first watching it were the song Hellfire and the man who kept saying, "I'm free! I'm free!" only to fall into another trap. :P

Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, Pocahontas, and Mulan inspired me in my childhood. I'm not sure if Belle inspired me or not, but I do remember that whenever my father came home from work, things would play out like this~

Me: "Papa!"
Him: "Belle!"
Me: "PAPA!"
Him: "BELLE!"
Us: "I THOUGHT I'D NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN!" <3

I'm remembering so far back.

Welcome to the forum! :eye: We do have a large thread for forum introductions that would make a nice home for this post and probably get it more attention (it's in General Discussion), but I've been scolded before for merging and moving with a shadow, so let me ask: would you be okay with that?

Welcome to the forum, Prudence! I myself have also been afflicted with the tallness that prevents me from ever becoming a real Disney park princess (I've been hovering around 5'10 ever since my middle school years). Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time here. Articulate and mildly silly people are always a joy to see! :tink:

I think the 'Post your Disney story' is the best introduction thread, don't know if it's the one Luke's referring to, but unfortunately I haven't seen any new entries for ages.

Oh, it's in General Discussion somewhere Prudence if you want to give it a go.
