I have a question (or maybe more than one?): Disney just announced the lead actors, so how long do you think they were cast before being announced? I mean, they must've already recorded their lines a while ago, right?

I think the Rapunzel presentation has started. Twitter is reporting lots of buzz, but so far nothing new.

All people are saying is computer animated fairytale, Holidays 2010 and Walt Disney's 50th film.

It's happening right now, someone tweeted:
Lasseter previews concepts and test animation for CGI Rapunzel. Looks amazing.!
more as it comes in.

I love this live coverage

Just came from the presentation that showed some Rapunzel sneak peaks and from all the concepts and test animation, it looks very promising. If anyone has a question, I'll try my best to answer. :)

How does the animation compare to Disney's previous computer animated film, Bolt in particular. Thanks for sharing again!

Well, the clips were very short and there were only 2 or 3 that were fully animated, but from what I saw, I'd say that the animation is pretty different from Bolt. Its much more "painterly" as I've seen a few describe the animation in past posts. Definitely looks like they wanted to make sure that even though its computer animated, you still get the feel and magic of a 2D movie. Hope that helps!

how did it compare look-wise to the concept art we saw on the disney animation site? did it look "flat" or dimensional? and the characters... were the cartoony like lilo or more human formed such as cinderella?

Did you hear any characters speak? Did you hear any clips of songs?

If by concept art, you mean this http://bookology.files.wordpress.com/20 ... raided.jpg then the animation I saw was pretty darn close I'd say. They clips were so short that it's hard to say if Rapuzel looks the same, but I have a feeling that in the clips I saw, she looked...classier. She still has that attitude you can see in the picture above, though. John Lasseter himself said she's all about girl power and doesn't wait for her prince.

The animation looked close to what's in the above too. It's certainly not as rubbery as Bolt looked like. John himself said he wants to see Rapunzel sitting next to a classic like Cinderella, so they're definitely trying to have a 2D feel while still being computer animated. Rapunzel and Flynn (who we got a sneak peak off) were definitely more towards Cinderella than Lilo, but it's hard to say it's exactly like Cinderella when Rapunzel is 3D.

Yes, we heard Rapunzel speak, as well as Flynn. We heard her talk to her "mother" in the tower (I'm not sure if it was her real mother - they seemed to imply she was royalty but didn't know it) and asking audiences if they ever felt like they belonged somewhere else, as well as a few other things I can't remember at the moment. We saw concept art of her interacting with Flynn and heard them speaking to each other, and Rapunzel definitely fends for herself.

Anything else anyone would like to know? This might be up soon so this might have been all for nothing haha :P

EDIT: No, we didn't hear any songs, but we heard some music, which sounded very beautiful.

That was just what I thought.

In the original tale, Rapunzel was the daughter of a farmer, I believe. She was stolen by the witch when her dad stole some plant from the witch's garden.

Her rescuer was a (unnamed) prince.

Old fish tale, where did you get that picture?

So that's pretty much what Rapunzel will look like! Not too different from the pictures we've seen before. And, yay, Mandy! Thanks, Old Fish Tale, and thanks, ColorsOfTheWind! :)

No, not at all. That bit of test animation was from Rapunzel Unbraided, which has been completely thrown out. The two clips of animation shown were Rapunzel running through a forest and then her sliding down a banister, with her hair flowing behind her.

I was asking because "Colorsofthewind" was referring to a picture of Rapunzel where she actually looks like she does in this clip.
Also "Colorsofthewind" mentioned a classy, painterly style.

I know this is an old test clip, but I was wondering if there were any similarities.

Because I think this clip (although it needs lots of improvement) is a good direction to go in.

The picture on that blue board with Mandy Moore and Rapunzel doesn't look half as good, as Rapunzel looks like a generic cgi human character on that.
