Very cool, I'm jealous. I'm at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit studyig animation. We're lucky enough to once every couple months have someone out from one of the big studios to come speak and visit and whatnot... but it would certainly make things easier to be out there in CA thoughgumby17 wrote:Ringling College of Art/Design, places like disney/dreamworks/pixar are prity tight with our schoolSWillie! wrote: Where do you go to school?

Disney has a link up that say "Tangled (Coming Soon" on their Movies page, but it only redirects back to the main page.

I have seen the teaser trailer only in German. That one was posted in this topic. I didn't know an English one was out yet.SWillie! wrote:Have you heard her voice in the teaser trailer?
Well, it's the same kind of objection I had to Miley Cyrus voicing a character in Bolt. Without ever seeing the film, by the way. I just hate it when Disney uses (their) teenybopper 'stars' to promote their films. In general (and I have stated this before) I strongly dislike the tendency in animation in general in the last decade or so, to only use celebrities to do the voicework. Not because said celebrities are good in doing voicework, but just because they can use their names to sell the movie.SWillie! wrote:Some people have complained that it's "just as bad as they thought it would be"... but I really don't understand why everyone has this prejudice against Mandy Moore... I think she sounds great and they wouldn't cast her if it didn't fit right.
Doing voicework is a profession on its own. Not every actor is a good voiceactor. It requires special skills. You have only your voice to work with, and you have to create an entire characters with it and bring it to life, because it's your voice animators use when drawing the characters. In dubbing in foreign languages, it has also become a trend, at least in my country, The Netherlands. In the 1950's, 60s, 70s and 80s we had a great staple of veteran voiceactors whose core business it was to make high-quality Dutch adaptations of foreign animated films and tv shows. They did it brilliantly. Nowadays, we don't have that anymore. We just have celebrities voicing characters, but their voices don't add anything to the films. They're lifeless and without a soul. It's simply just the celebritiy's voice and nothing else.
Voice acting used to be a profession on its own. In the 1950's and 60s, Disney re-used an awful lot of excellent voiceactors time after time, and they would always give a character a different voice and personality. Where are the Verna Feltons and Sterling Halloways of today?
Jim Cummings, maybe?Goliath wrote: Voice acting used to be a profession on its own. Goliath, they were going to have Reese Witherspoon, another celeb, voice her at one point. would that have been any better than Mandy Moore to you?
This isnt comparable to using Miley for Bolt, Mandy Moore isnt some star Disney cooked up in their labs for the Disney channel, she is far more legitimate, and at the same time, not exactly realvant. By that I mean she's not the it girl Miley is at this time.

I thought Reese Witherspoon used to be on this project.Kyle wrote:they were going to have Reese Witherspoon, another celeb, voice her at one point. would that have been any better than Mandy Moore to you?
And, yes, that would be much better. Besides the fact that she's just a better actress, her voice is less annoying.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Um, right. isn't that what I just said?
Edit: and while I do like Reese's voice better (based on that infamous test animation), I was talking more about their celebrity status.
As far as who would be better, its kinda about personal taste. I'm not going to judge Mandy's Rapunzel until I get to hear it in footage that looks complete.

Sorry if that was confusing. I know I seems insane lately.

Meh... only slightly. I'm just tired of all the celebrity voices. But Witherspoon is a good actress, and Mandy Moore can't hold a candle to her acting abilities.Kyle wrote:Goliath, they were going to have Reese Witherspoon, another celeb, voice her at one point. would that have been any better than Mandy Moore to you?
The only difference is that Moore wasn;t cooked up by Disney, but she's nothing more than a former teen star who got famous for her good looks.Kyle wrote:This isnt comparable to using Miley for Bolt, Mandy Moore isnt some star Disney cooked up in their labs for the Disney channel, she is far more legitimate, and at the same time, not exactly realvant. I do agree that it gets annoying when studios treat celebs as people they can use to market their movies with, like dreamworks does. But what about all the countless times celebs have worked very well? I cant imagine Mike without Billy Crystal, or the Genie without Robin Williams.
The only time I can remember me being apposed to a celeb voice in a non dreamworks movie was Rosie O'Donnell in Tarzan.
I could have done without Miley in Bolt, but I pretty much forgot about it while watching Penny in the theaters. my problems with Bolt were more about art direction and whatnot than the voice casting.

Oh, btw, just wanted to say: Yes, I realize the covers are not exactly 3D. My only defense is that, especially with the picture where she’s brushing her hair to the side, there’s a gleam to the skin around her eye that reads “3-Dimensional” to me, and it’s very hard to believe that anything 2D looks like that.
And, yes, there was a bit stubbornness to me not admitting it, but I think it was more about having to admit being wrong to someone who was treating me like a child. And, yes, some of that ended up being childish, but I didn’t start off that way.
Just felt like I should slay the dragon in the room. And I’ll try to excise some of the negativity from my posts so those who are looking forward to Tangled can still enjoy this thread.
Sorry.

But yeah, this is my first year at CCS. I'm from Michigan too, about 20 minutes away. I love it here so far!!! I went to the University of Michigan for one year in their Art and Design program, and HATED it. SO glad I transferred. I'm actually learning what I want to be doing for my career, which is a nice change. The only negative thing is what I said before... the location. I know more studios are starting to move out towards Detroit this year... but CCS is still fairly a new and little-known animation school, especially among the likes of Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks. We've had a few kids graduate and go on to work there, but certainly not as many as, say, your school. Our chair of the department used to work for Sony Animation, so we're pretty tight with them, which is nice. But I'm still jealous of you. I was considering applying to CalArts, but cost and being that far away from home would not be easy.
How do you like Ringling?
EDIT: Since this is way off topic, I've sent you a message. Let's take it there hahah.

Now let's move on and all talk about beautiful golden hair, and how hot Mandy Moore is.
