Thanks, Wire Hanger. It's not as awesome as Veruca Salt-ing a Disney subject, but I manage.

You can still purchase Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray online at the Disney Store and also Amazon and maybe other places.

So either we have another BD bonus disc, or we're getting both DVDs this time.

Maybe it's the Digital Copy which was announced about a month or so ago?

A digital copy wouldn't have Bonus Features on it.

Perhaps the set-up is this:

Disc 1: Blu-Ray - Theatrical & IMAX Versions
Disc 2: Blu-Ray - WiP Version & Special Features
Disc 3: Digital Copy (ugh)
Disc 4: DVD & Special Features

So the disc set-up could be something like this:
  • Disc 1: Blu-Ray
    -1991 Theatrical & 2001 IMAX via seamless branching (84/90min)
-Commentary (90min, if it's ported over)
    -Unknown Disc 1 Feature (18min)
-Deleted Scenes: Belle in the Library (9min)

    Disc 2: Blu-Ray
    -1991 WiP (84min)
-Beyond Beauty: The Untold Stories Behind the Making of Beauty and the Beast (51min)
    -Broadway Beginnings (12.5min)
-Composing a Classic: A Musical Conversation with Alan Menken, Don Hahn, and Richard Craft (19.5min)
    -Classic DVD Features (78min)
    -Song Demos (TBA)

    Disc 3: Digital Copy
    -Waste of a Disc

    Disc 4: DVD
    -1991 Theatrical & 2001 IMAX via seamless branching (84/90min)
-Commentary (90min, if it's ported over)
-Tale as Old As Time: The Making of Beauty and the Beast: Alt. Intro (1.5min, the Celine Dion one from 2002, unless they shot a new one)
-Unknown Disc 1 Feature (18min, could be an abbreviated version of "Beyond Beauty"*)
-Tale as Old As Time: The Making of Beauty and the Beast: Alt. Close (0.5min, the Celine Dion one again)
    -A Transformation (3min)
-Deleted Scenes: Belle in the Library (9min)
Then, when the two-disc DVD is released in November, it'll probably be the same as Disc 4, with the second disc being the "Classic DVD Features" from the 2002 Platinum. Of course, I'd generally prefer if the second disc simply be a standard-definition version of the Blu-Ray's second disc, but given what happened with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I'm not counting on it.

Actually, what I'd prefer is if the second disc were entirely the new stuff and not the old stuff, that way I'd have a reason to get the two-disc DVD while still holding on to my old set. The 2010 Blu-Ray and DVD for Dumbo does that (Blu-Ray has a mix of old and new features, DVD only has new features). They should do the same for Beauty and the Beast.

albert

*I remember the 2002 VHS for Beauty and the Beast had a shortened version of the "Tale as Old as Time" documentary, so that's probably what they'll do again here with "Beyond Beauty".

I really don't think there will be a Digital Copy in the Diamond Edition line. Disney wants to keep this line up to the highest caliber, especially since this line is strictly Blu-ray and is supposed to show these movies in the highest quality possible, and a Digital Copy wouldn't be presenting it in the best light (not to mention it's just a cheap marketing scheme to give the illusion of added value). When I go to Disney's site for this, it doesn't mention a Digital Copy anywhere (like I said, it was a mistake the first time), and only says "Great Value! Combo packs include both 2-Disc Blu-ray and a DVD of the Movie."

What we may be seeing is a Collector's Edition that comes with an added disc (among other trinkets). That or Disney heard our complaining and decided to give us the extras we wanted but with the Disc-2 Blu-ray being jammed packed with HD extras, they just threw the SD extras on an extra DVD at the last minute as a Disc-4 (it would be cheaper then a Blu-ray disc). I don't know, something is going on and we'll just have to wait for a press release to clear things up. I just really don't think it's a Digital Copy and there isn't any evidence pointing in that direction (besides an error on their webpage that has since been corrected).

One thing that bothers me is all the clips on Disney's Diamond Edition webpage have the unnatural colors. I hope this doesn't reflect what will be on the actual Blu-ray (the clips on The Princess and the Frog Blu-ray, while still looking a little bright, fixed Belle's hair to be brown among other color corrections).

I dislike Digital Copies myself, but can't imagine they'd release a 4-disc set that's 2-BD and 2-DVD. Granted, I'd prefer that, but other than a Digital Copy disc, the only other disc I can think that they can include is the Soundtrack CD. Now, there's an idea...

I think this Diamond Edition will not have a Digital Copy because Snow White didn't have one.

Look at the cover for the three existing Tinkerbell films.

Look at the Platinum Line in its entirety. Including Menu Layout and Bonuses.

Look at the Pixar DVDs

Look at the Masterpiece Editions.

Look at Lilo and Friggin' Stitch

In the famous words of Remy the Rat: The only thing predictable about [Disney] is its unpredictability.

Here's my reasoning as to why I don't think there's a digital copy in this set:

This is one of Disney's sacred treasures. If they were to give it a digital copy, they'd have to list the film on iTunes as available, which would make the film very easily accessible. Disney doesn't like to make their films THAT accessible. That's why I don't think that there's a digital copy in the mix...

Does that mean there is an actual trailer on Disc-3? I thought the promotional material was on Disc-2. Confusing stuff :?

I'm so confused now by what material is on what disc, though I'm just glad that there's less likelihood of a waste of a disc being a Digital Copy!

And yay! The Reviews Trailer wasn't included on the 2002 DVD, but it was one of the supplements in the WiP Laserdisc. I've never seen it, it's not even on youtube, so I'm glad it's being included here. Now if only the 1991 making-of were included too...

OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD!

I was just browsing around Barnes & Noble, and decided to check their listing for Beauty and the Beast, not really expecting to find anything.

AND THEY HAVE A LISTING OF THE SPECIAL FEATURES FOR THE BLU-RAY AND DVD!!!!

Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition Blu-Ray (Blu-Ray Packaging) and Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition Blu-Ray (DVD Packaging) list this:
  • Restored film; Three versions of the film; Original theatrical release; Special extended edition; Original storyboard version (BD-exclusive); Original theatrical version with a PIP of the storyboard ; Disney song along mode ; Audio commentary; Beyond Beauty: The Untold Stories Behind Making Beauty And The Beast (interactive) ; Broadway Beginnings Up close and personal celebrity interviews with Nick Jonas, Donny Osmond, Toni Braxton, and others who have starred in the Broadway production ; Composing a Classic: A Musical Conversation With Alan Menken, Don Hahn, and Richard Kraft; Deleted scenes:; Alternate opening (boards); Belle in the library - never-before-seen moment where Belle meets three new characters in the library; Art galleries - Only available inside the "Beyond Beauty Experience"; Family play games:; Enchanted Challenge: help Belle and the Beast fall in love in order to break the spell before the last petal falls (Disney Quest); Bon Jour, Who Is This? A Disney TelePlay Game - Powered by BD-Live. Using your cell phone, guess the identity of the other players before they guess yours ; Music & more:; All-new music video featuring Disney Channel star ; Classic DVD bonus features
While the Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition DVD lists this:
  • Restored film; Three versions of the film:; Original theatrical release; Special extended edition; Work in progress edition (with existing intro by Don Hahn); Music & more; Disney song along mode ; Audio commentary ; Backstage Disney:; Beyond Beauty: The Untold Stories Behind Making Beauty And The Beast ; Broadway Beginnings ; Composing a Classic: A Musical Conversation With Alan Menken, Don Hahn, and Richard Kraft; Deleted scenes:; Alternate story open - featuring an entirely new opening of the film and a different cast of characters; Belle in the library - never-before-seen moment where Belle meets three new characters in the library; Music & more:; All-new music video featuring Disney Channel star ; Classic DVD bonus features
OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD!

THE DVD VERSION WILL HAVE THE NEW DOCUMENTARIES!!!

:pink: :pink: :pink: :pink: :pink: :pink:

*breathes slowly, calms down*

So, to give a better breakdown of the discs, according to the B&N list:

Beauty and the Beast: Diamond-Edition Blu-Ray and DVD

Disc One: Beauty and the Beast - Feature Film & Special Features

Feature Film:
-Beauty and the Beast - 1991 film, directed by Kirk Wise & Gary Trousdale. Presented in "Original Theatrical" and "Special Edition".
--Original Theatrical (1:24:17)
--Special Edition (1:31:06)

Backstage Disney:
--Storyboard Version - the theatrical version of the film with PIP option of the storyboards. I'm guessing that its inclusion here is why the "Work in Progress" version isn't included in the Blu-Ray set? (1:24:17, Blu-Ray Exclusive)

-Audio Commentary - since there's no mention of Cine-Explore, this likely is the same commentary from 2002, with Don Hahn, Kirk Wise, Gary Trousdale, and a brief pre-recorded interview snippet Alan Menken.

Music & More:
-Disney Song Along mode - "Sing-Along" with one letter changed.

-Music Video - all-new music video featuring Disney Channel star...TBA, I guess.

Deleted Scenes: (27:21)
-Alternate Opening - featuring an entirely new opening of the film and a different cast of characters. Since we don't know how long this runs, and there's an untitled Diamond Edition Disc 1 bonus feature, I'm assigning that runtime here. And if this alternate opening is indeed 18 minutes long, well...I'll be in BATB heaven. (18:07 scene, 0:34 intro)
--Introduction (0:34)
--Alternate Opening (18:07?)

-Belle in the Library - never-before-seen moment where Belle meets three new characters in the library. (8:40)

Disney FamilyPlay:
-Disney Quest: Enchanted Challenge - help Belle and the Beast fall in love in order to break the spell before the last petal falls.

-Bon Jour, Who Is This? A Disney TelePlay Game - Powered by BD-Live. Using your cell phone, guess the identity of the other players before they guess yours.

Disc Two: Beauty and the Beast - Special Features

Feature Film: (1:24:17 + 0:28 intro)
-Beauty and the Beast: Work in Progress - 1991 film, directed by Kirk Wise & Gary Trousdale. Only on the DVD version. With an intro by Don Hahn. (1:24:17 + 0:28 intro)

Beyond Beauty: (51:10 + interactive features)
-Beyond Beauty: The Untold Stories Behind Making Beauty And The Beast - new documentary. Interactive version a Blu-Ray exclusive. (51:10)

-Art Galleries - only available inside the "Beyond Beauty Experience".

Broadway Beginnings: (12:33)
-Broadway Beginnings - Up close and personal celebrity interviews with Nick Jonas, Donny Osmond, Toni Braxton, and others who have starred in the Broadway production. (12:33)

Composing a Classic: (19:26 + Song Demos?)
-Composing a Classic: A Musical Conversation With Alan Menken, Don Hahn, and Richard Kraft - does what it says on the tin? (19:26)

-Demo Recordings - likely in this section since it couldn't possibly be in the Classic DVD Features. (0:26 + 28:39?)
--Introduction (0:26)

Possible Song Demos to be included:
--"Belle" (4:52)
--"Belle (Reprise)" (1:01)
--"Gaston" (3:40)
--"Gaston (Reprise)" (2:28 )
--"Be Our Guest (Maurice Version)" (3:28 )
--"Human Again" (9:13)
--"Beauty and the Beast" - Work Tape & Demo (3:57)

It will have both! After making that post, I decided to check the DisneyStore site, and they have the same listing of special features as Barnes&Noble.com

Of course, there's nothing actually listed under "Classic DVD Features", but given that intros for many of them have been passed by BBFC, it's safe to assume that most of the 2002 special features will be included. The only features I'm assuming won't be on the new 2010 Blu-Ray or DVD are the 2002 documentary (understandable, it's being replaced by the new documentary), the 15-minute "Disney Animation Magic" featurette from the Chip section, and the Jump 5 music video.

Something hilarious to note is that DisneyStore.com lists the aspect ratio as 2.55:1.
