That makes sense of Belle picking a few things up from him over the years. Don't really care either way about it, tbh, considering it's such a minor detail.D82 wrote: And according to Jack Morrissey, the film's producer, Belle's father is still an inventor in this new version: https://twitter.com/Jack_Morrissey/stat ... 2012982272

Condon and Disney probably read too much of the comments (and by comments, I mean troll-ish complaints) on the internet that completely miss the point. And in that regard, I have a suspicion that he's going to say that the relationship between Belle and Beast was of Stockholm Syndrome proportions. 'Cause by golly! People just love to say that so that it would make the movie much more deeper that it really should be.taei wrote:nomad2010 wrote:
Why didn't Belle fit in? I'll tell you why, you idiot (Condon), it's because she probably spent most of her time reading books and learning from them rather than spending time in the village with people. It doesn't take an genius to figure that out. Belle doesn't go outside and play around and hang out with the other villagers because she would rather identify and connect with characters in the book that she was reading.
And the town always thought it was weird for Belle to spend all of her time reading when she basically was the most beautiful girl in the village.
Man, I am so mad right now. If they couldn't get this simple thought, then what the heck are they doing with the rest of the movie?! Next we'll find out that the Prince wasn't turned into a beast because he wouldn't shelter an ugly person from the storm, he probably invented a machine to scan the looks of people before letting them knock.![]()

Geez, why all of the negativity with Belle being an inventor? (besides stealing that from Maurice) You think she reads all day? This only shows off her smart side more.

Unfortunately we have 4 months left before this comes out. I'm sure there'll be quite a bit more quibbling to come between now and then.disneyprincess11 wrote:Geez, why all of the negativity with Belle being an inventor? The way I see it, it sends mixed messages. Typically if your into stories as Bell is, you're more of a right brained artistic person. Inventors are more left brained, focusing more on logic and facts than anything. There can be crossover, but usually a person is going to lean one way or another, not fully invested in both. I don't like this because it makes her into this barbie of sorts that just does it all having no faults or focus.disneyprincess11 wrote:Geez, why all of the negativity with Belle being an inventor? VERY good point Kyle.
I had already thought along the lines of what Divinity said of "picking up" things that her father did, and when he wrote something similar to what I thought I agreed with him, but Kyle brings up a point that goes against it.

There isn't a Belle & Maurice song. That was just a false rumor. Menken said he only wrote three new songs.bruno_wbt wrote:Then I guess we now know all the titles of the new songs:

The whole left-brained/right-brained thing is just a myth, though. It has been debunked a long time ago.Kyle wrote:Typically if your into stories as Belle is, you're more of a right brained artistic person. Anyway, some additional info has surfaced.
Source: http://www.eonline.com/news/806509/see- ... first-look"We tested a lot of yellows. It was just trying to work out the tone," costume designer Jacqueline Durran tells EW. "It's still made of silk, but it has a satin finish, so it's less transparent than other organza. There is a cage under some parts of [the skirt], but mainly it's layers of organza that just give it a lift, for it to have lightness."
Durran explains that they wanted to fit Belle in a dress that wouldn't be restrictive. "For Emma, it was important that the dress was light and that it had a lot of movement," Durran adds. "In Emma's reinterpretation, Belle is an active princess. She did not want a dress that was corseted or that would impede her in any way."
In fact, her entire wardrobe will be more modern and realistic than animated Belle's. "My Belle is very practical," Watson explains. "In the movie she wears these little ballet shoes, and I knew they had to go. If you're going to ride your horse and tend your garden and fix machinery, then you need to be in proper boots."

Re: Beauty and the Beast Live-Action Discussion
My God, the Beast looks atrocious
Those horns are too much and the CGI looks cheap in the stills.
I don't like Belle's look either but I just never liked the casting choice (sorry). She just doesn't scream "Belle" to me. Her costumes are nice though. I agree with the criticisms of the new inventor angle...way to completely misread one of your best characters, Disney
Gaston isn't nearly imposing enough, or attractive enough from my perspective.
I do like the design of the household objects, except for Babette the bird.
On a positive note, the set design looks amazing and thankfully, no matter what, the incredible music should save this from being a complete disaster, but I'm not that optimistic otherwise. Granted I haven't loved any of these live action remakes
I'd be more excited if it was the Broadway version brought to the screen though.

Yeah that's a myth indeed. I like that they're fleshing out Belle. Otherwise what is the point of a remake?

looks good, but Belle's ballgown still looks too yellow to me. Also the Beast too cgi. Lumiere looks creepy as "f"!!! wonder if he's gonna have Ewan's mo-capped facial features, eep!

I always thought the clothes we've seen of him (the live-action stills) made him look like a soldier. Guess that explains it. Fine with that addition, too.D82 wrote:The stills from the EW article in even higher resolution and watermark free: http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-fir ... ree-87488/

If you take it literally, yes , that's been debunked, but it still works as an analogy to how people's minds tend to work. I still find it very much applies to most people. Me for example, I like to draw but am terrible at math. The people I know that are good at it have little to no interest in art.Sotiris wrote:The whole left-brained/right-brained thing is just a myth, though. It has been debunked a long time ago.

In a way, doesn't that support the character's concept? He's supposed to have an inflated ego, and people who suffer from one usually don't live up to their believed reputation or appearance.Lady Cluck wrote:Gaston isn't nearly imposing enough, or attractive enough from my perspective.
I'll reserve judgement for the Belle-inventor angle until I see it how they use it within the context of the movie.

You're right, there are only three new songs, but Maurice and Belle sing "Our Song Lives On" in the movie, too. (Separately)
Entertainment Weekly keeps bringing the goods–and by goods we mean new information on live-action Beauty and the Beast! This morning they released a conversation with Alan Menken about three 100% new songs that will be in the film (along with the classics we all know and love) that he wrote with lyricist Tim Rice. Here is everything Menken said for you to dissect at your leisure:
OUR SONG LIVES ON
“The first time it’s sung, it’s Belle’s father singing as he’s completing a music box, and basically it’s [about], ‘How does a moment live forever? How do you hang on to precious moments?’ Then, it’s reprised by Belle, and then it’s the song that’s actually over the end credits at the end of the movie.”
FOR EVERMORE
“‘For Evermore’ is this moment where the Beast now loves Belle, and he realizes that she misses her father, and he acknowledges she’s no longer a prisoner, and when she sees her father’s in trouble, he says, ‘Go to him, go.’ And he voluntarily lets her go,” Menken continues. “He’s basically singing about how he now knows what love is, as he watches her leave, and he’s climbing up the turret of the castle as she recedes into the distance, just watching her go further and further away.”
DAYS IN THE SUN
‘Days in the Sun’ is a moment when all of the objects in the castle —and Belle — are going to sleep. Basically, everybody in the castle is having memories of what it used to be when they had their days in the sun. It’s sort of a combination of a lullaby and a remembrance of happier days for everybody.”
BONUS AUDRA MCDONALD SONG MOMENT
“It’s a moment within the prologue, just before the spell befalls the castle,” Menken says. “We’re actually at an event at the Prince’s castle, where the Prince is about to be turned into the Beast, and he’s in his very selfish and self-indulgent phase of his life, and we see that, and we have the magnificent Audra McDonald singing this number.”
Pardon us whilst we go scream until we run out of breath … and we’re back. Which new song are you most excited to hear when Beauty and the Beast opens in theaters March 17, 2017? Tell us in the comments!
