The redubing in Germany is simply awful to the fullest extent!!!
Imagine Cristina Aguilera being the voice of Ariel. This is kind of what happend in Germany!! They also didn't just change the voices but also all the lyrics to make it even more horrible.

I hope that the slipcase opens up like a book. Does anybody know if it will? I have my doubts about it since LatT didn't.

The Little Mermaid: Kingdom Hearts Edition

Post by Disney Duster »

I can't believe I've posted so much in this thread, and how long it's gotten! I wish that Cinderella had the same obsessive popularity as The Little Mermaid. *sigh* But it is a favorite film of mine, and I have to admit I can see why it has such popularity.

Anyway, for those of you who absolutely love The Little Mermaid and can't wait to see its gorgeous new restoration, I have a little mermaid diversion. Did you ever want to see the entire movie in CGI?! Well, it's in Japanese, but this is very close:

The Entire Movie of The Little Mermaid-Kingdom Hearts Style!

Enjoy it! I did! And if you're wondering, Ariel says sorry a few times to Eric, and then he jumps in the water and...well, I don't know what they say. Maybe someone who has played the game can translate?

I had played the game. What do ya mean by "he"? Do ya mean Eric? I thought Ariel was the one who jumped into the water?

As far as I could remember, Ariel said: You see, Eric? This is why I came to Ursula. :)

Same here, I agree 100%.

Does Region 2 always get a single disc for a Platinum title?

No, all the Platinum releases except "Snow White", had 2 discs and all the special features the American DVDs had. That's why we're so angry!!!
"The little mermaid" had also been an enormous success in Germany when it was released the first time in 1990. Everyone had been looking forward to the new DVD, but now without the first dubbing and the cut special features we're all going to import the DVD from elsewhere so that Buena Vista Germany won't get the money and will maybe realize they have to release the first dubbing and a 2-Disc Edition to sell it well.

Ive played it! all it really says is like..This is why I came to Ursula, anbd like Eric jumps off his boat and swims to ARiel and is like "will you teach me to swim?" its really strange. I liked Atlantica in KH2 but it wasnt as fun as it was in the first Kingdom Hearts, they should have included the songs though in those scenes, Part of your World and Under the Sea sound pretty good. I like it that Jodi Benson was the voice of Ariel in both Kingdom Hearts.

I found the Dutch covers (a bit small... :)):

1-disc:

2-disc:

I'm very happy with the 2-disc cover. I like it very much. The thing I hate is the title in three languages (English, Dutch and French). And just because they speak both Dutch and French in Belgium. Why can't they make different covers? :x Dutch for the Netherlands and the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. French for the French speaking part of the Netherlands. The Lion King DVD was perfect. Just the English title.
Disney's musical Tarzan. Coming to Holland 2007.

Oh, no...that means that it's not ALL Region2 gonna get the same edition!! Here we go again...just like it happened with LatT. Both editions for the UK and France and maybe some other countries too, and the rest of us...the miserable single disc edition!!!! Thank God I've got a friend of mine in London and he's going to get me the 2-disc edition!

Well, just goes to show that the cover originally believed to be for Denmark/Scandinavia actually is for quite a bit countries in Europe, and perhaps other regions too?

Well, I'll be getting the Danish 1disc edition and also a 2disc edition from the UK. i would have gotten the giftset had there only been one.

Just to mention my unhappiness once again :p

The Little Mermaid lives in Denmark, but not her 2-Disc DVD

Post by Disney Duster »

The Little Mermaid is MEGA-HUGELY popular IN ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY and it's getting crappy foreign releases?!

I don't understand it! I have to say, this is really making me appreciate being an American! Why do the other countries get jipped? Is it because Disney movies are American, and therefore other countries don't think their people care about Disney movies as much? I read that recently, China forbid any American or Japanese animation during primetime television because Chinese animation isn't popular. I wonder if other countries are like, "It's from America? Well, let's give it the crappiest release we can!" I read that it is the other countries who decide what they get on Disney releases. Who knows exactly what goes on, how can we stop this madness?

I agree with you. I know it's been said many times, but I would've imported this without a second thought :( . I'll just have to spend my money on something else, like the Nintendo Wii :D , or maybe buy some shares in Dreamworks just to make a point :P .

What you can do is write a letter or e-mail to Buena Vista Home Entertaiment in Burbank. Tell them what you think of this!! That's yur little help. if more people would do that, maybe BVHE will realize what thy're doing with the other countries.
Also, TLM was redubbed in many countries, although the first native languages dubbings had been wonderful. Tell disney what you think About this!!

Actually it is kind of like that. Here in Denmark there was talk about TV being way too USA-oriented. There was a huge discussion about how we outta return to our "roots" instead of just relying on American shows and movies. Way lame.

I just don't see why TLM has been discarded so easily by Disney in so many aspects... It's close to their biggest success and has one of the most loyal fanbases you will ever find. Give us some credit, damnit.

I totally agree!....Although I'm not American  . I'm English. I'd hate it if they just changed Ariel's voice for the sake of it :x
