Think about it this way:
1996: Hunchback of Notre Dame was rated G
2013: Frozen was rated PG.

You have to keep in mind that the MPAA seems to rate animated movies on auto-pilot these days. I think the last one not to have a "rude humour" disclaimer was Turbo.taei wrote:Probably. The most perplexing PG rating I've seen issued to a movie in recent years was The Lorax. The Muppets' PG rating also confused me.

I liked the new trailer. Better than the teaser trailer. The first half gives you some atmosphere from the 1959-movie itself.

I agree. That trailer was awesome.DisneyFan09 wrote:I liked the new trailer. Better than the teaser trailer. The first half gives you some atmosphere from the 1959-movie itself.

If Maleficent is PG-13 as rumored, then I won't be shocked. If it's PG, same here as well.estefan wrote:You have to keep in mind that the MPAA seems to rate animated movies on auto-pilot these days. Remember, it could be "Narnia" PG, and have tense moments and battles but little-know actual on-screen violence.
I really just dont see this being PG-13. Too many glowing Fairies.

I saw a fan made trailer using the audio from this official trailer and clips the animated Disney film.

Maybe so, but don't forget: One of those fairies is played by Imelda Staunto, and from what it sounds like, we're probably gonna see quite a bit of Umbridge in her portrayal.ajmrowland wrote:Remember, it could be "Narnia" PG, and have tense moments and battles but little-know actual on-screen violence.

On a superficial level, this film will gain a lot of notice from fashion magazines / online blogs due to Jolie being part of it. Both Vogue and Harpers ( I think ) have tweeted out several links to the film, noting on her beautiful look in the film, when the release date is etc.
If Jolie will be promoting this film (which I think she will, due to her presence at D23) then we should expect her to be on next months high fashion publications (April issues).

As someone who finds every Lana Del Rey song to sound exactly the same, her cover of 'Once Upon a Dream' is everything I hoped and expected it to be. A light and cheerful rendition wouldn't fit the feeling of the movie, and Lana does dark and sinister very well. Genuinely excited for this film to open and Angelina Jolie looks like the perfect fit for Maleficent.

I thought it was becauseDisneyJedi wrote:Is that why Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen are PG?unprincess wrote:yeah the pg-13 is weird. I know that for animated films though studios now prefer pg b/c of the stigma that g is for little kids & teens/preteens dont want to be caught seeing a g film.
Tangled- Mother Gothel ages to death, and her death scene is basically her aging so fast that she turns into dust. Also her screaming into the cracked/ damaged mirror.
WIR- King Candy's disturbing change into a monster type thing, and his disturbing Turbo design
Frozen- Anna freezing to death, and Hans going "Game Of Thrones " on everybody.
When seeing Frozen, alot of kids cried when Hans turned off his good guy switch in front of Anna and also the chandelier falling down and crashing on Elsa. Alot of kids these days are used to more sensitive kids movies, so a PG rating makes sense. I don't think Disney cares too much about the teen/ young adult groups, we are basically outcasts.

... No idea how Hans or Game of Thrones is related to this discussion, but...!
Random thought: If Maleficent is going to be portrayed as having long, black hair, how does she manage to keep it all concealed in that headpiece of hers?

The horns are hollow and she stuffs her hair in there.Kraken Guard wrote:Random thought: If Maleficent is going to be portrayed as having long, black hair, how does she manage to keep it all concealed in that headpiece of hers?
I imagine its time consuming and fiddly, but all part of the glamour of being the mistress of all evil.

Actually Kraken Guard, because of the leaked script, the horns may not be hollow. Unless, Maleficent makes her horns hollow after they come off from the spell that made them in the first place ends. But she probably stuffs her hair into the sides of the leather she wraps around hers face, neck, and the horns. One does wonder how Jolie, who's hair actually is pretty long, did fit her hair into all of that headpiece.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
I'd say it's pretty safe to say (and I don't think I'm giving anything away as you can clearly see it in the trailers) that, at least for the most part, horns are not hollow and they are on her head along with her hair. There are scenes shown (where she's walking in the field) where her hair is down and blowing in the wind and her horns are clearly intact. I'm gonna guess it's just concealed under her cowl later on.
