Looks like TPatF has made another $3 million yesterday, if not a little more. :)

By the way, PatrickvD, I love your banner and how it has Bolt and Louis, two of my most favorite recent Disney characters on it! :D Though I'm probably spitball guessing, but is that girl in your banner Rapunzel? :?

Even though Newman's lyrics are not as poetic as Menken's, I doubt Menken could have given Princess and the Frog the jazz extravaganza Newman gave the film. I keep wondering if Disney could have put Menken for lyrics and Newman for melody. (Like Dino Spamoni and his best friend in Hey Arnold )

Well, Menken isn't really a lyricist. He's just the musician, so I think you mean people like Ashman (who's been dead for years) or Slater or at least one other guy whose name is escaping me at the moment.

oh Menken would have brought the jazz like it's nobody's business. He gave Hercules some serious soul, so I have no doubt wether he could have pulled it off.

Fact remains it would have been more broadway. Which would have been fine. But I still think Princess & the Frog is fine the way it is with Newman's music.

I agree! I'm convinced that Menken can do almost any style! But, if it didn't have the songs we're now familiar with, it wouldn't be the TPatF we all know and love. So I'm glad it worked out. Definitely Newman's best work, so kudos to him! :D

Animation

Stephen Schwartz? (Pocahontas, Hunchback, Enchanted)

David Zippel? (Hercules)

Tim Rice? (Aladdin)

Live-Action

Jack Feldman? (Newsies)

Lynn Ahrens? (A Christmas Carol)

It think you meant Schwartz, right?

Thanks, Sotiris! Yeah, I meant Schwartz and Zippel and Rice. It's why I said "at least one other guy." I don't know why I always forget the names of most of the lyricists he's partnered with. Maybe it's because he's always the star of the duo! :D

It's a shame, because THoND has some of my favorite music of all time, but I never remember Scwartz's name. I always remember Ashman, though, it's a shame he died, because he and Menken were such a great team. As for Slater... I can never remember what he actually did with Menken (as far as DACs and other Disney animation go), but his name sticks with me for some reason. I'm guessing just HoTR, since it's the only one he did the score for that you didn't list..... Right? Unless my mind has completely escaped me!

You are right; he only did one film with Menken but collaborated with him on the stage (the Sister Act: The Musical and The Little Mermaid Broadway production).

You're welcome :D

Glenn Slater again for both. But since these movies have not been released and are subject to change I cannot list them as his work yet.

OK, that's cool! I can't wait to hear what they turn out for those! And maybe the fact that Newman did TPatF will have given them more time to concentrate on making Rapunzel the very best that they can! :D

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me that Menken is working with Slater on both of them. I don't know where I read it, but I think I saw an interview where he actually said that Slater was the closest he ever had to a companion like Howard Ashman. I only have Home on the Range to go by, so he will have to really impressive me with Rapunzel and The Snow Queen for me to put him on Ashman's level.

Even Schwartz, who I think is Menken's best non-Ashman collaborator, is not on the same level of excellence with Ashman in my opinion.

But, as long as he doesn't collaborate with Feldman again, I will be pleased. I couldn't stand the lyrics in Newsies, which is a shame because Menken's melodies are very good in that film. Shame the lyrics are so generic and un-imaginative.

Well, I liked the lyrics for the songs in "Home on the Range." So... hopefully Slater will do a good job.

The only song i like from Home on the Range is ''Will the Sun Ever Shine Again''. That song should have been nominated for an Oscar; it's that good. The rest of the songs, including the end credits ones, are pretty bad I'm afraid.

I don't know... "Home on the Range" and "Little Patch of Heaven" were good, and the villain's song was pretty fun. But, yeah, the end credit songs were pretty lame, IMO.

A hilarious video just posted on The Princess and the Frog YouTube channel of an animator drawing Naveen with humourous results.

Reminds me of the Daffy Duck short "Duck Amuck."
