Little Mermaid wrote:Hi. I found UltimateDisney.com in a search engine because I was hoping that there would be a fan forum somewhere for Disney films.
Welcome! Just don't forget there's more to the UD than the forum! Check out the main site and explore all the links!
That's amazing! How long has this forum existed & no one's used "Little Mermaid!" heheh, welcome to the forum! Enjoy, there's lots of good people here!
I am about to turn 29 years old. I have four sons.
I don't really remember the first Disney movie I saw in theaters - it may not have been until The Lion King when I was about 15 or so. My mom didn't take me to see very many movies in theaters.
However, she did buy me VHS tapes - and I had just about the whole Disney collection! My favorites were 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
Now, The Lion King is my 8-year-old son's favorite movie of all time. I recently sold my VHS's on e-bay....and am trying to gain them all back on DVD. I have every PE DVD except for the first one that came out - was it Sleeping Beauty? I was going to try and track one down on e-bay...but decided to wait until it comes out of the vault again.
I have been checking this site daily, it's become rather habit-forming. This is the best site on Disney DVD's I've ever found.
One more thing - my family of seven (I also have a step-daughter) will be going to Disneyworld from May 11-19th! I CAN'T WAIT! It will be my 8-yr-old step-daughter's first time to Disney...as well as my 3-yr-old and 18-month-old's! My older two sons have been to Disneyland many many times, and Disneyworld once when they were pretty young.

Welcome to the forum kbehm29!
The first PE (and many would argue, the best PE) was Snow White. Check in the trade forum- there seem to be people selling them all the time. Also used DVD places like gamestop (where I found mine) are good places to check.
It's so great that you've started to get your kids hooked on Disney... that will be my goal when I have kids
I'm relatively new to the forums, posting that is, but have been reading them and this for a while longer. My disney fan-dom has it's levels which rise and fall. Typically I'm always a little more into it all when I have a season pass (like now) and can visit Disneyland as often as I like. I'm also an avid DVD fan, so it was only inevitable that I undertake buying all the Animated Classics on DVD! (which unfortunately for me, just started to take shape a month or so ago.)
My earliest disney memory... would probably be my Mickey Mouse stuffed animal. He has a plastic face, and boots, but the rest of him was plush. I was born in 82, so he would be dated around there. I know he's out in my garage somewhere packed away safely. But other than that, Donald has always remained my favorite, even to this day. I still get excited when i see him, and always want a photo op at disneyland. I'm also very demanding wondering where he is in the parades, and that he better be there!
My first Disney theater going experience I can remember was seeing a re-release of either Bambi or Snow White. I honestly can't remember, but it took place in the mid-to-late 80's. I was brought up watching VHS copies of the older classics as they became available, and my grandmother started to buy them for us.
Then the 90's renaissance... I didn't see either of the first 3 in theaters (Little Mermaid, BATB or Aladdin). But I do remember watching Little Mermaid and Aladdin at home. During the dinner scene in TLM, when Ariel combs her hair with the fork, and blows the contents of the pipe into the guys face, all I can remember is laughing so hard I started to cry and make myself sick. I had to pause it and watch it at least 2 more times before continuing on! I then saw Aladdin as well when I lived in Oregon for a short 3 months, as it just came out on video. Enjoyed that one thoroughly as well - and to this day it remains my favorite. I was a little annoyed when plans for its IMAX re-release were scrapped. I SOOO would have been there.
Then came the Lion King which I saw twice in theaters, crying both times during the stampede scene. I loved the movie's music so much, and when i got a cd player for my birthday (a big deal back then), i went out and purchased the soundtrack as my very first CD.
My interest in the films post Lion King fluctuates from then out. Pochahontas I thought was not animated nearly as well as it could be. Something about the size of her head, seemingly changing as the pictures would pan would kinda bug me, but I have more an appreciation now for it, and actually always liked the music. Mulan I saw in school for the first time, and found it funny and enjoyable, and my sister liked Hercules - it was okay to me... I remember watching the premiere tv special on a friday night with interviews with Michael Bolton (oooooh! ahhhhh!!!).
I've missed a lot of the later films, but ended up catching Emperor's New Groove on video, and fell in love with it. I love the humor and wit in it, as well as the stylized animation. The next film to see in theaters was Lilo & Stitch. From the commercials I wanted to see it, because Stitch was just hilarious to me. So I do also enjoy that movie very much. I haven't seen any of the Disney movies after L&S until Chicken Little, which I was pleasantly surprised. The ones I've missed I will be catching on DVD as I purchase them over time, hopefully not being disappointed. I also look forward to seeing older films I've never seen in full, like The Aristocats, or Oliver & Company, and the Black Cauldron. I'm sure they'll all possess a certain charm that makes them Disney.
I'm also an avid fan of the Golden Girls and am excited about them releasing, so far, all the seasons in a timely manner, and can't wait for season 4!
hey im Marc and im 22 from Australia. I found this site while looking up disneyland stuff. Im planning a trip there (for the first time) early 2007 so i thought a disney forum would be a good place to meet people who know the park well as well as other disney nuts like myself. If anyone wants to chat about the parks or the movies or anything disney (or not disney) add my msn messenger account or pm me your instant messenger account name if you dont use msn and i can add you.
I remember, being only little, back in the 80's sometime seeing an all star line up of Donna Summer, Julien Lennon, David Hasslehoff & even a very young Drew Barrymore. It was Disneylands Anniversary Party.
But all i remembered from that video was when Drew described the Haunted Mansion and how freaked out I was by it. Then, a few years later, we went to Disneyland for the first time and I remember I loved the ride so much I cried to last day we went on it.
There's something up when a ride, and a park, can make everyone so emotional. This website is a prime example. People the world over, especially from all the way down here in Australia (where i'm petitioning to have a Disneyland built) love Disney. Its an institution. A way of life. A feeling of happiness no matter where you're from, who you are, the minute you step through the gates of a Disneyland park you know that life is great.
And even if you've only had the chance to experience a few Disney movies now & then and remembered them years later, you know what i'm talking about. Its when a movie or a themepark can bring back so many happy memories that you know you've met something great.
Disneyland is your land.
Remember that everyone. As long as there's imagination left in the world, we will continue to be inspired.
Lion, you will love your trip believe me. By the time you arrive you will see the re-envisioned Pirates Of The Carribean. And the newly repossessed Haunted Mansion: Hatbox Ghost & all.
This website is beautiful. You are all beautiful.
Disneyland is beautiful.
C'est magnifique.
Theres something about Disney magic. I havent been to a park yet and I already feel it through its movies ect. I cant ieven magine being in the disney parks.
As for Disney in Australia. How good would that be. We really have a sad amount of theme parks here for a country our size. The Gold Coast parks offer nothing in return value. I went to dreamworld for the first time in 10 years last year and wont be back for probably the same again (and i only live 30 mins away) and this is ment to be our best park!!! as for the others they dont offer alot. Tourist traps and nothing else. Fun for day and thats it.
great post by the way. I know how you mean about disney.

i'm 14 years old and I live in canada and it sucks because our DVD covers have french all over them, anyway I don't really remember the first disney movie I saw but my parents tell me that I kept them up all night watching beauty and the beast over and over again. I didnt really care about DVD's till about a year ago so I kind of missed out on some of the earlier releases like lion king etc. but ive been able to find most of the ones ive wanted, but beware internet buyers of cheap bootleg and foreign copiebecause ive perchased at least five bootleg and foreign copies.
Hey-O I'm Shawn, 16 will be 17 May 21, born in Vancouver Canada and now I live on Vancouver Island which is pretty boring compared to the big city. Most of my fav. disney movies were the ones Walt had participated in making because they had the "Disney Magic" and me and my friends hold an annual disney movie marathon where we all sleepover at someones house for a long weekend and watch all the disney movies we can starting with Snow White and ending with whatever one we can get to before the weekends up. I'm currently in the process of writing a pro-disney book and how it's had a positive impact in the lives of people and aobut the different lessons we've learned over the years if anyone has a suggestion for my book or any ideas let me know I need all the help I can get
Well..hey. My name is Lindsay and I just registered (after my third try...I finally realized that using aol addreses just didn't work for some reason and had to sign up for a hotmail account ). Hello everyone!
*EDITED TO INCLUDE MY DISNEY STORY*
The first Disney movie I ever saw in a theater was Aladdin, but my first Disney video was The Little mermaid. When I was younger I used to have all the disney barbie dolls, but unfortunately they were all given haircuts at some point and now lie forgotten in my parent's attic. (Yes, I am ashamed).
My name is Tom Cloudkicker. I'm 41 and I've been a fan of Walt Disney since I was 14; when I visited Walt Disney World for the first time. My most recent visit to WDW was in 2005 (my Fifth). I'm a part-time driver and facilitator for a community center here in New Jersey. I moderate two online communities; both celebrating Tale Spin's High-flying Ace of the Skies, Kit Cloudkicker.
I loved Mickey Mouse. I've been a fan of a lot of classic characters from Walt Disney and Warner Bros. When Tale Spin premiered on television in 1990, It changed my casual attitude towards contemporary animation
Two things about Tale Spin got my attention and would never let go...Baloo and Kit Cloudkicker. The father-and-son relationship they share was something wonderful to see. That cloud-surfing hobby that Kit enjoys was fantastic. I never saw any character do anything like that before. It was all beautiful!
Last year, I joined the Tale Spin Community of fans; a diverse community of Tale Spin lovers from all around the world. There's a lot of creative energy and friendship there and I'm very proud to be part of it. Now, at the end of August, we all anticipate the release of Tale Spin to DVD. We've been hoping for something like this for a long time.
Well, this is my story; as good as I can tell it right now. I hope I fit in well here and I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun with you good people sharing your favourite Walt Disney memories.
We're all Disney fanatics here...so you'll fit right in! You and my boyfriend has something in common: Baloo! & we're all happy that it's finally coming to DVD! w00t! ^_^

Translation: Hello again friends
I am back on "Earth" for a few of your months. My planet is under war right now, and "Earth" is the safest, and farest, planet from my own. Chaos is every where. Fire burns down the Xaxyaltako, tropical trees, and kills the Xaxica Xortako, wild animals. My homeland is terrible, and the Xaxyaltako are giving off their poisonus protective gases. I am glad that I am back on "Earth" because people here are more friendly than the people, Xortagoy, on my planet. I must go now.
I've been on this forum for quite a while now, but it seems that I never posted in this vitally important thread before.
Unlike most, it seems, my username is my full name and nothing but my full name. I'm 32.
In my corner of the world Disney is quite important, but first and foremost in the shape of comic books. The weekly "Donald Duck & Co" is one of the top sellers here - in any genre of magazine. I pretty much grew up on that, as did many, many, MANY others.
My early years (late 70s, early 80s) was the time when Disney animation was at its low-point. This was also long before anything of interest was available on home video... The only Disney animation that had any significance to me (and most others, I guess) was a certain television special that was on every Christmas. Oh my, then we knew that it was REALLY Christmas!
The first time I saw a Disney animated feature was Oliver & Co in the late 80s. It was all right, but I guess I wasn't too impressed. But over the next few years I would discover and basically start to research Disney animation.
This was the time when Disney animation was "reinvented", and at the same time we got properly distributed videotapes of the "Classics". There was also a Disney-themed show for kids on television at the time, that would include one or two of the classic shorts. I taped and saved these. In the 90s I also started collecting and reading books about Disney and Disney animation and I built a rather good collection of Disney animation on laserdisc, which was unusual around here.
Because of the LDs, I'm really not in a rush to have "everything" on DVD. But I'll buy a given title if I think it will somewhat significantly improve my collection. I buy all of the Walt Disney Treasures - that's the sort of material that I find really interesting and I consider that line of DVDs one of the very best things that ever happened in this field. So you could say I'm first and foremost into the history of Disney. There's really a lot of the more recent output from the company named after Walt Disney that I really don't care much about...
As it is now, my Disney collection includes most of what it "needs", but I make a few additions now and then.
