I would welcome the 1951 outline, if only I didn't have to sit for 21 minutes and listen to someone read it to me.

But otherwise, this looks like (dare I say it) a good Platinum. I think I'm sufficiently convinced to double dip.

Oh, who am I kidding. I would have bought the damned thing regardless. I hate myself.

I agree with Disneykid- it seems like the new version is better than the SE, so I may sell the old one and double-dip. Albert, any objections?!?

Amy, don't sell it! Albert will hunt you down if you get rid of the audio documentary. :P

Amy, I don't think it's double-dipping if you sell the first dip. Then you still just have one dip.

Anyway, I E-mailed Ultimate Disney to announce this on the front page, but if they don't let their readers know, oh well. But everyone in here can know. Tonight from 8:00 to 10:00, or perhaps a little after 10:00, on ABC, on The Wonderful World of Disney, during the showing of "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement", there will be a sneak peek of Sleeping Beauty's Platinum Edition DVD and Blu-ray, including a behind-the-scenes look at the new restoration.

This is exactly the kind of thing I love and will be tuning in through the whole movie to catch it.

Our very own, very loyal PrincePhillipFan is recording it. But I don't know if he'd be able to get it onto the computer. I may be able to help, but we will have to see. All I can say is we will have to see. I'll let you know if I did it or not it comes on. That may mean tomorrow.

I watched it, and when the movie was over, and I played back the tape...and it didn't record! I talked to PrincePhillipFan, and he couldn't record it either!

To be honest, it wasn't that much. It was very short. Here's a run-down. They called it a Wonderful World of Disney Extra or something. They said the movie was getting a "transformation", but they only really talked about the wider picture, like, the bigger frame, and the new remixed sound. They showed some black and white drawings of Phillip and Aurora dancing, for some reason. Andreas Deja did most of the talking, and a narrator. We saw clips of the movie that matched what we've seen in this thread of the new restoration. The reds really look more vibrant. The clips I remember were Flora and Merryweather fighting inside the jeweled gift box when they're discussing what to do with baby Aurora, Maleficent angry she didn't find Aurora yet, Briar Rose in the forest, Phillip in the forest, Phillip fighting the dragon, and Phillip and Aurora dancing, and the dress changing to pink while they danced. I remember the pink looked nice. But all the clips were very brief, like they would only say one line like "It's incredible!", or they didn't say anything and you'd see a quick movement, like Phillip's sword getting blown away, and there was no comparison of the old and the new. Then they said "brought to you by Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition, coming to Disney DVD and Blu-ray Disc", or something like that.

For those of you who really wanted to see this, and would have if you had known about it, I E-mailed Ultimate Disney last night to announce it on the front page, and they didn't announce it. If you want, maybe you can ask them why in an E-mail to tsdvd@yahoo.com. I, personally, have had it with them neglecting to announce important Disney news while they continue to announce non-Disney things, mostly their non-Disney reviews. Maybe I E-mailed them too late, but it was last night, so...

You know my answer, Ames. ;)

Anyway, we've been on the road for like 10 hours today and I'm using Jane's laptop in the hotel room before going to bed (yay for free wifi at Hampton Inn!) so I couldn't even watch the sneak peek even if I had known about it. The sibs and I were watching Doctor Who instead, and were able to watch the final 5 episodes of season one (or twenty-seven). Still, it sounds more promotional than informative, meant to hook in prospective buyers than to be an actual "here's how we restored it, we did this and that and used these special programs..." type of thing. Hopefully someone somewhere did tape it and is loading it on youtube, I wouldn't mind watching it regardless if it's promotional or informative.

As for UD not mentioning it on the main page, it's likely to do with the fact that UD is currently just Luke managing the site (as has been the case for years), with Aaron, Kelvin, and Christopher working solely as reviewers and not as the main-page editors. And since Luke does the bulk of reviews along with editing and formatting the others (along with updating pages, adding news items, etc.), I have a feeling that either:

1. The e-mail likely didn't get to Luke in time for him to post about it, or he checked it too late to make a news item (however brief) about it.

or

2. He simply had too many other things to do for the site to post a brief item that says "watch The Princess Diaries 2 tonight on ABC and see if you can catch the Sleeping Beauty sneak peek".

And I was just talking about this in the TinkerBell thread.
Wow,this is their worse one, even worse then the Ariel's Beginning one.
It's not even those Jeweled Princesses cliparts they made for the PE.

This is disgusting and disrespectful.
To the classic and to the people.

I would be ashamed to walk into a store and buy something like that.

If I would see this in a store I would rip the box in 2, throw the right part to the baby-department and take the left part with me and tell everyone in the store what a magnificent, timeless, masterpiece/work of art this movie is.

Does "the new Disney" even realize how mature this movie, the music, the artwork, this masterpiece is? And that it's actually not suitable for 5 year old girls at all? So why add 5 year old girl's toys?
Absolutely crazy. They completely lost it.
It makes me sad.

I really agree.
They just think that only little girls will buy Sleeping Beauty and they"re wrong.
I had it,Giselle journal with Enchanted (Does journal count as something "girly"?),Ariel mirror, tiara and comb with Ariel's Beginning,TinkerBell bag with the TinkerBell movie now this.
This is just stupid,so little boys, older people and fans can't see Sleeping Beauty because it's a Princess movie? that's just dumb and ridicules, that whould a 5 years old might think, not Disney.
That's exactly why little boys says it's "yuck" to see Sleeping Beauty or Beauty and the Beast.
It was very bad with Ariel's Beginning and the TinkerBell movie (I whould also say that the Enchanted exclusive is bad the Sleeping Beauty one but I"m not if a journal is something girly) but this is much worse,it's not a DTV film it's a classic film! I"ll definatlly buy the DVD alone,if I could buy this exclusive then I whouldn't even if it was much cheaper then the just the DVD itself.

oh, yay, special bonus of junky stuff that will most likely break in 5 seconds! I bet the Chinese woman that assembled this crap probably said to themselves: "I wonder why American's want this junk?" That's only guessing what they say after hearing them talk about making Mardi-Gras beads!

YARG! You think a nice bonus would be like...a small art of the movie booklet or...like, a cd sample of some of the soundtrack. But this? Talk about gearing the movie to little girls.

I'm not even gunna go buy the movie at wal-mart, I don't even wanna walk by and see this litte..."beauty kit" It will just make me shake my head and roll my eyes again.
