Tangled (aka Rapunzel) Discussion - Part III
Am I the only one who thinks her hair will be just like the Godzilla movie ... In the movie, Godzilla appeared to be immense in some shots and in other shots he looked a lot smaller.
From these new pictures, there is no way her hair are 70feet long.... I believe they will make her hair look 70feet only when she's in the tower.

Well, they're publicity shots, clip art that's going to be used on girls' backpacks and Valentine's Day cards (most likely). Disney's clipart is *always* simplified.spitweet wrote:Am I the only one who thinks her hair will be just like the Godzilla movie ... So, um, yeah, weren't we promised something by Disney yesterday? Not images, but actual audio-visual video. Because, you know I'm actually reading tired of seeing these images. I just want a decent two-and-a-half minute trailer. I mean, I think they're asleep at the controls, especially when DreamWorks just released their THIRD (fourth if you count the Comic-Con footage) trailer of MegaMind.
I'm getting really impatient for something new and substantial, though I did really enjoy the recently released featurette (despite the lack of Menken's music). *taps foot waiting.*

These are absolutely STUNNING! I mean, a small detail maybe but I've NEVER seen such beautiful hands and feet in CGI characters. Usually they feel rubbery, like gloves, but this feels like an actual hand, with muscles that work and pull and have gravity and force. It's absolutely STUNNING! And Gothel's hair for instance. Another reason why I love the fact that we will be getting a gorgeously lush and beautiful and detailed Disney musical fairytale in CGI. And by the looks of it, it breathes and has the same life and vigour as a hand drawn movie would have. It's really amazing and I can't even begin to describe how insanely much I am anticipating this movie!

I hate to say this, but I agree as well. There's something about the sketches, more life and elasticity that is lost when turning them into CG characters. I'll give this the benefit of the doubt and say the actual movie will have more animation.enigmawing wrote:Sigh . . . definitely the sketches.sotiris2006 wrote:Comparison between concept art and final images.

But it would also be somewhat lost when translating this sketches to cleanu- drawings, to be fair. I LOVE the amount of detail in the images. The transluscensce of the hair, the fabrics, the skin, it's just lush. Let's just for once enjoy this Disney animated musical fairytale in this technique. Let's give them the benifit of the doubt and see what they make of it. We all love 2D, but let's just drop our dislike for the CGI medium and embrace this as a movie, because god knows the insider reports have been positive. The team deserves the support, that's for sure!pap64 wrote:I hate to say this, but I agree as well. I'd like to clarify that I actually do enjoy CG in general, and overall I am very impressed with the CG we're seeing in this particular film. The skin, the fabrics, the hair . . . it is all beautifully rendered! I'm excited to see something like this for the latest Disney princess and simply can't wait!robster16 wrote:But it would also be somewhat lost when translating this sketches to cleanu- drawings, to be fair. It's just that I feel a little sad when I see what's been lost from the sketches, and on occasion her eyes bother me a little:

I'd really rather not nit-pick though, at least not until I get to see every frame in the theater for myself.

change the color setting from CMYK to RGB in photoshop. That'll do the trickMobje wrote:I actually have more, but their colours change when i upload them here for some reason and thumbnails don't seem to work, so i will have to resize and change the files first before i can upload them
(Like the ones i posted earlier)

*cough* *cough* I hate to repeat myself, but...

I guess I'm in the minority but I actually like the CGI versions better, except maybe the middle one.sotiris2006 wrote:Comparison between concept art and final images.

I definitely agree with you on the eyes. But is it just me or Rapunzel's face looks more off model, then Tianas face was?enigmawing wrote: It's just that I feel a little sad when I see what's been lost from the sketches, and on occasion her eyes bother me a little:

Tangled
Thoughts...
Rapunzel's live character costume ain't too great...but the film's design has never looked better. I just wish the sleeves were more like the original designs, ah well.
I also do not like the flowers used in her hair, in the live character version or the movie version. They could have picked better flowers and better colors.
SPOILER: Rapunzel's final princess dress also does not look too good...nor her hair. IT'S SAFE NOW.
You know, I just realized that How to Draw Tangled book was really unnecessary in telling the whole movie. They really could have given a lot less spoilers, and just maybe the Flynn name thing and the final look of Rapunzel thing, without revealing how they got that way.
But the CGI...really does look fantastic, and beautiful, and...Disney. While not as great as the pictures we saw of Glene Keane's most painterly vision, it now has become something on it's own, like a much more Disney version of CGI.
I see that they did something I hoped, which was make Rapunzel's costume a lighter, purer version of Mother Gothel's costume, and make Motehr Gothel's costume a little more purple, less obviously evil and less in your face red. Because now that it's purplish red, Rapunzel's costume is just the more innocent, positive shade of it, purplish pink.
I actually prefer the final CGI images to the sketches. The sketches look very rough, though, and their faces are rather awkward to scary. The CGI gives them better faces.
Enigmawing, so if you like CGI, why do you not like the CGI pictures more, because finally, for once, I think they improve upon the original sketches. However, some other art of Rapunzel does look almost infinately better, like the image of Rapunzel with Pascal in her hand, and I wish that was transferred exactly into the CGI.
Amy, so, since you read the "How to Draw Tangled" synopsis of the movie, can you tell me if Flynn was a born prince or is named Bastian?

It doesn't mention that...Disney Duster wrote:Amy, so, since you read the "How to Draw Tangled" synopsis of the movie, can you tell me if
The hand-drawn pictures, but in the last picture set you posted, I think that Flynn looks hotter in the CGI pic.sotiris2006 wrote:Which version do you like best?
Am I the only one who doesn't see anything wrong with that close-up of Rapunzel that people aren't happy with? I mean, maybe he bottom lash line is crooked...? But otherwise I think she looks really pretty...? And maybe it's not even crooked, it's just the angle...
RodryCroft beat me to posting the Latino Review article, but there were 3 points in it that made me go

EXCLUSIVE: PAUL ‘BEAR’ VASQUEZ RESPONDS TO DISNEY’S PARODY OF ‘DOUBLE RAINBOW’ VID FOR ‘TANGLED’

I had never heard of the Double Rainbow video before it was posted the other day here, and I don't know anything about this guy, but it's a parody. Be honored that they liked your video enough to parody it. Get over it...
