In the leaked script Maleficent once had wings but when Stefan returned to her to admit his "love", he drugs her and while that happened he tears her wings off to show King Henry that he couldn't "kill her". This is the big betrayal scene that causes Maleficent to go evil. But I think that this element got either removed, or revised in the final version.

Based on what we see in the trailers, clearly there has been a major re-working of the first act. Here's what I suspect has been changed from the script: If it hadn't been for that doll, I would think that the wings were omitted from the movie entirely, but I doubt they would make a doll with wings if it wasn't still in the movie to some degree, I mean where would they get the design from if there wasn't a visual representation somewhere?

I think she still starts off with the wings, but is betrayed by Stefan much earlier. Maleficent's father as in the script has been removed it would seem (there's no actor cast as him nor Queen Mary from the script) which means Maleficent probably commits her evil deeds more independently, which is great for the sake of the character we all know. So say her wings get cut off earlier and this causes her to go full-tilt evil and start a war with King Henry's men. Cut to her walking angrily, though determinedly, through a field (as seen in the trailer) without her wings and thus the battle (that's not in the script) begins. I'm thinking this is the new "Maleficent is officially evil" scene and her full-on wickedness spans completely though seeing Aurora grow up.

Now, I could be completely wrong, but that's what currently makes the most sense to me. Pretty much all of the changes from the original script are done so to improve it, so I can't wait to see the finished product and see just how much it has improved!

Nice observation. I personally think that if her wings are going stay in the final film, please don't let it be the cause of her "sob story" in the beginning.

ah awesome dolls! Wish they had made Stefan.
as for the film I think it looks good! I love that theyre going for dark(the Del ray song fits perfectly.) Not a fan of Jolie but she looks great. Also love the insane casting of Sharlto Copley as Stefan(thats so wtf!?) I like the idea of expanding Diablo's role but I read a summary of the leaked script andI find the idea that he's the one that turns into the dragon at the end a bit lame. Come on, the dragon was her thing!

I can't download the song, because Google Play is not available in Romania yet. Can someone please email me a copy? I tried downloading it from YouTube, but the download takes forever, and I can't find it anywhere else. :(

EDIT: Never mind  I got it :D

It is interesting how one of the dolls with the wings is labeled "Coronation Maleficent". Coronation is when someone is actually crowned a monarch, so im thinking that:

A) She attends Stefan's coronation in the beginning of the film before he betrays her and tears of her wings (Unlikely) or

B) In the end Aurora is crowned queen and Maleficent attends the coronation with her newly re-acquired wings

Someone on IMDB who, possibly, has connections with the MPAA has "confirmed" that the rating will be PG-13. But we'll wait and see if it's true.

Hmmm….it doesn't look any scarier or more disturbing than Alice in Wonderland or Oz which both got PG ratings. I wonder what makes this different, if that rumor is true.

Yep, and again, we'll wait for the rating to appear on it's official movie website, or go to Rope Of Silicon to see if they released the rating there.

If the movie does end up being PG-13, I'll be very interested to see what made it that way. However, the rating system means so little anymore. I guess if Frozen can get a PG, then this is easily a PG-13.

I was honestly surprised that Oz was PG (though it was a terrible movie).
I can see Maleficent being PG-13. I never thought it would be PG.
The Dragon alone warrants that rating.
But ripping her wings? the whole background behind Stephan and Maleficent? All of these things are PG-13 material.
The battle also looked too violent to be a PG.

And just to make it clear.. 20 years ago, the movie would be G or even PG. Now, every rating is pushed a step up. With the exception of Wolf of Wall Street..

EDIT: So sorry!!! I thought it was but I clicked on bold instead.

Just thinking out loud here; do you think there is any possibility that 'Once Upon A Dream' is the main theme for the score? I don't mean the whole Sleeping Beauty score, but Once in particular, as Lana has covered it. So her version, the haunted twisted version could be the main running theme through out the score, rather than the generic fantasy scores that we always end up getting.

The reason Alice In Wonderland was rated PG was because of a smoking caterpillar :milkbuds:

I'm pretty sure that movie would never have gotten a G rating..
They cut eyes out, decapitate, and pretty much do a lot of the no-nos.

How brilliant would it be to have a truly terrifying cut of this film ? Like super duper frightening (much like I found Maleficant so terrifying the first time round of seeing SB).

I know that would never happen for obvious reasons, but would be cool all the same.

yeah the pg-13 is weird. I know that for animated films though studios now prefer pg b/c of the stigma that g is for little kids & teens/preteens dont want to be caught seeing a g film.

Is that why Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen are PG? :P

Here is a great comparison post on IMDB that this user made to show us the difference between the leaked script and all of the trailers.

Probably. I mean, Cloudy 2 was PG and that barely had anything that was worth the rating.

Think about it this way:
1996: Hunchback of Notre Dame was rated G
2013: Frozen was rated PG.

:)
