On Broadway - Amazing. Definitely one of my favorite films as of now. New Kids On the Block Member (I didn't even know it was him) Joey McIntyre gives a fantastic performance, as does the rest of the cast, specifically Mike O'Malley and Eliza Dushku. Will Arnett and Amy Poelher were also hilarious.
Edgeplay: A Film About the Runaways - I loved his documentary. Later bass player Vicki Blue sought after her bandmates for interviews; all except Joan Jett participated. Cherie Currie, Sandy West, Lita Ford, and Jackie Fox all had something very interesting, insightful, and inspiring to say. For example, Sandy West is really the only one who wanted to reunite, but she sadly passed away from cancer in 2006, a year after this documentary was made. Cherie Currie had romantic "incidents" with Joan Jett and Sandy West. Band manager Kim Fowley was a monster, who "deserved to die" according to a band member. Lita Ford didn't like Vicki Blue upon first meeting because she looked too much like her; they now consider each other sisters. Jackie Fox refused to have her name be mentioned in the 2010 film "The Runaways." Joan Jett tried to stop this documentary from being made. You hear all this and much, much more in this fantastic "rock"umentary that shouldn't be missed.

Thanks to both Lazario and Goliath for defending me. I know you guys don't believe in Jesus and all that was very kind of you to defend me of black pearl telling me to take down my post.....my point is in the movies It's not real. It's Fictioin (unless you count your inspired by a true story which sometimes it horror relates but mostly sports flims of history.
Also I'd like to add...people still read Romeo and Juliet or watch the movies. The Little Mermaid even the Disney one...what do you think Urusula did to make her human....call 1800 get legs for Ariel, or how about Aladdin...Jafar uses dark magic a bit....Any Shrek has some demonic like creatures (the pub and the witches and knock off versioins o Disney Villains) or how about The Nightmare Before Christmas...dont think that one needs an explanation. or Indianna JOnes or Star wars. Heck even Kung Fu Panda talks of dark elements. Marry Poppins has Magic....good magic, or what about Bedknob and Broomsticks? Or Witch Mountain or Any type of Comic Book movie? Idk if I have to avoid all of them to be a Christian in your eyes Black Pearl, but if you do, also remember in the bible a verse says don't judge others. Leave that to God.
Sorry for my long post...hopefully we can all just stick to on topic stuff...starting with this
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (b&w) from 1923 on TCM. My girlfriend told me to dvr it since she is just now figuring out Disney did not Create the Original Little Mermaid or Snow White..she thought Disney Created Snow White and all the films on originality. So i'm teaching her the different authors of the orignal story although Stitch is Im pretty sure an original story not based off of a book or something
Anyway I started watching the B&W slient Film Hunchback and It was very intersting. In this version Quasi is more hateful to people and doesn't feel sorry for himself. Also Frollo is more no as Joplin and is the archdeachons brother but doesn't think the way of his brother. Very intersting film

To answer your question Lazario: it is the creative writing student in me. My teacher in high school told us on day one that if we ever wrote a story that ended with the "it was all a dream" conclusion we would immediately recieve an F. It is the laziest ending you can have and cheapens the emotions felt by the reader throughout the story by basically saying the story never happend so you can't feel anything.

How do we even know the Devil's "The Enemy". He could just be God's whipholder/prison matron. considering "sinning", no matter what it is or the size of it will have us banished to hell, there'd have to be some mutual agreement.
as for the Bible having all the info we need, then we'd be VERY confused if it did. It contradicts itself frequently and has been rewritten several times. who know's what's been left out? as a smart christian, I dont even think the Virgin Mary was a virgin. that part of the story just reeks of cover-up.
As for the movie: Over the Hedge-fairly standard Dreamworks fair, but not a bad movie at all. some nice giggles too.

Who says I don't? He probably did exist but he's not a ghost who magically manifests himself in the good things about Mankind. If there is a heaven and he's there, that's where he stays. He doesn't telepathically or spiritually communicate with people on Earth. That's a fairy tale, like Santa Claus, to reinforce the belief that you get rewards for doing good things while you're alive. We all know how we get rewarded- by doing things ourselves. Anything more than that on Earth while we're living is a luxury. Not spiritual payment for being morally clean and holy. Believing in Jesus's ability to make us do things is like giving someone else credit for what we do ourselves- same thing with blaming the Devil for the bad.disneyboy20022 wrote:Thanks to both Lazario and Goliath for defending me. Good luck trying to convince some people of that. Total lost cause.disneyboy20022 wrote:and all that was very kind of you to defend me of black pearl telling me to take down my post.....my point is in the movies It's not real.
I was actually thinking about that earlier today. How can a person call themselves a Disney fan and be of the opinion that black magic is dangerous if you just watch it in a movie?disneyboy20022 wrote:Also I'd like to add...people still read Romeo and Juliet or watch the movies. And by the way- if black magic and potions and spells really did all that people are afraid of... wouldn't more people know about that? What I mean is, more people would be doing spells and potions if they actually could make things happen.
Many sources consider that a horror film. Sounds like you've already been inducted.disneyboy20022 wrote:The Hunchback of Notre Dame (b&w) from 1923 on TCM. Widdi - you can't change fate. If you're watching a film or reading a story that takes place in a fantasy world with a character traveling to a place wholly unlike where they came from, the "dream" ending is always a possibility. Accepting that is the only rational, responsible thing to do.Widdi wrote:To answer your question Lazario: it is the creative writing student in me. Besides, if we argue the dream ending isn't acceptable, how can we defend an ending like the one in Ghost World where it turns out even the initial reality as well as the one that raised all the stakes for the main character was just a way to get her on that bus? Or Donnie Darko, where time reverses back to the beginning? Isn't that the same as a dream- the whole story changes then.
And the endings to Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland are not lazy. I especially adore Alice's ending. Like I said, nothing else makes logical sense. All that's left is for her to end up in Oz where she finds some demented Leprechaun or something has been spying on her and wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine by showing her what her imaginary world would be like and how she would hate it if it were real. Then you get into implications of voyeurism and invasion of privacy (how dare someone play God with her or treat her like they were her father? - etc). Nothing else works.
It sounds like your teacher needs an F of their own. And for you to actually sound like you're defending their zealousy... Shame!
Lastly, to Black Pearl, for taking down the Pirates of the Carribean avatar because of all that blah-blah-blah...

Saludos Amigos just bought the dvd, to replace my videotaped version. It's not the most exiting Disney feature, but the short about Pedro the little aeroplane is still nice, just as the short with Goofy as Gaucho. There's a documentary on Disney's artists trip to South America on the same DVD that's at least just as long as the movie itself.
Paris Je T'aime This movie exists of 20 short love stories from famous directors taking place in the city of lights. I't s quite a challenge to tell a full story in 5 minutes and not all of them are satisfying, though some of them are real gems. The weirdest stories are those about mime-players fallling in love and about a young man (Eliah Woods) who falls in love with a female vampire at night, and finally is turned into a vampire himself.
Departures Japanese movie. A cellist who gets umemployed when his orchestra is discontinued decides to return to the town where he grew up to live with his wife in the house his late mother has left him. Looking for a job he reacts to a vague advertisement and to his surprise he is accepted for a job as undertaker. At first he is disgusted, but gradually he learns to appriciate his new job. His wife is less accepting when she finds out what he is doing for a living. Very touching movie with beautiful images, and a good message of reconciliation in the end. I can see why it won an Oscar for best foreign language film.

I do believe there was a Jesus from Nazareth, who was born 5 years B.C. (we were five years off when calculating the birth of Jesus), who was a preacher in Judea. There's some historical evidence about this, if I'm not mistaken. There's supposed to be letters from Pontius Pilatus concerning Jesus, but this casts Jesus as merely one more preacher amongst many others. Historical fact is that the jews and Romans saw early christians as a cult, like they saw many new 'branches' of judaism as cults, and Jesus was one of many leaders of such 'branches'. That's all I know what's historical about Jesus. All else is a matter of faith.disneyboy20022 wrote:Thanks to both Lazario and Goliath for defending me. I know you guys don't believe in Jesus
You're welcome, by the way. I hate it when one person claims to speak for an entire communtiy of millions of people, in this case christians. I also find it arrogant to think one can speak for God. If God really exists, he's incomprehensible to us; our tiny brains (which we only use for 10%) can't understand 'God'. That's why I don't believe in the Bible. If there really is a God, he can't have all the petty, everyday human traits the Old Testament assigns to him. A god is too big for that.
I'm sorry I drifted off-topic like that.

I'm sorry... No, wait, I'm not, I really find that funny. But if this means she'll be watching silent movie classics, I'm all for it.

If you look hard enough, you can probably find anti-christian, masonic and satanic messages, themes, etc. in any movie, Disney or no Disney. I mean, the Bible has, what? 20 gazillion pages. Name one mainstream Hollywood movie, and I'm sure someone can point out something that's not considered okay going by the 'logic' of the Bible.
Just my two cents, of course.
But anyway, I just watched How To Train Your Dragon, and I quickly came to the conclusion that it's probably the best Dreamworks movie I've ever seen. Though I'm not particularly happy with them milking it out... again, with tv shows and sequels. But I guess that's their policy.

For one day, The Great Pumpkin will appear. It won't be long now. One little slip like that could cause the Great Pumpkin to pass you by. The Great Pumpkin will appear and I'll be waiting for him! I'll be there! I'll be sitting there in that pumpkin patch and I'll see the Great Pumpkin. There he is! There he is! It's the Great Pumpkin! He's rising out of the pumpkin patch! A lot of people say you're a fake, but I believe in you. P.S: If you are a fake, please don't tell me. I don't wanna know.

Wow... this is one off-topic discussion...
Anyway...
Ferris Bueller's Day Off -
This was great! OMG! That principal was such a creeper! I felt so bad for the sister, to be honest! But Cameron was just hilarious, OMG! Matthew Broderick was hilarioius, too! I have to say, though, it got me thinking about how cool it would be to pull something like that off.

Moulin Rouge! - I had watched this Monday night before I got my wisdom teeth removed the next morning. I hadn't watched it in awhile and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. It's so creative and Baz Lurhman did an amazing job. McGregor and Kidman also had great chemistry even though their singing wasn't the strongest (but it was appropriate for the film). I so wish that they could bring this to the stage because it would be Spectacular Spectacular!!
Chicago - I recently saw the stage show (last Friday in New York; it was awesome by the way!!) and I became reinterested in the material. Even though they aren't identical and some great songs were cut, it was still amazing and it's no surprise that it won the Oscar for Best Film. Zeta-Jones is the all star of the film with great perfromances by Gere, Zellweger, Latifah and Reilly. Fantastic cast, fantastic songs, fantastic everything. Super A+

Was that the first time you saw that movie? It seems like it, from your post. Have you ever seen The Breakfast Club? It's from the same director and also a 1980's teen film. While it's different in tone from Ferris Bueller, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.margos wrote:Ferris Bueller's Day Off -![]()
