It might have a very classy look, becuase the cover on the front is black, and I think the back will also be black. I think they will just have a list of what they have one the back, nothing really fancy, becuase the list will be HUGE!! So much on THREE DISCS!!!!!!!!
"If you can dream it, you can do it." - Walt Disney

The Wizard of Oz (1933 Cartoon) (8 minutes)
********************************************
It's good to see that Off to See the Wizard (a collection of Chuck Jones-animated Oz interstitials) is included here when it wasn't mentioned on the press release. The Romance of Celluloid short has been SERIOUSLY beefed up. On the current DVD, it's only a minute long; now it's 11 minutes. Since the current DVD said it was an excerpt (since, apparently, the whole short didn't pertain to Oz), I'm guessing the entire short (with the non-Oz bits) is what's included on the new edition. I find it odd that the "We Haven't Really Met Properly" section has nothing for Judy Garland. Is there a special featurette solely for her that the press release didn't mention, or does WB think Judy's life is too melancholy to be given a video bio?

A trailer for this release can be found here.
It contains the new restored footage. From what I can tell, it's fairly similar to the current single disc, but I noticed the cyclone sequence looks WAY sharper, the shots with the gang skipping towards Emerald City has more natural colors than before, and the shot of the Wicked Witch sending off the Flying Monkeys is brighter and reveals more of the room. There's also a quick peek at the back cover art, which shows the scene where the Dorothy and her friends are speaking to the gate keeper at Emerald City.
Here's what the interior of the 3-Disc Collector's Edition looks like (wow!):

Great trailer- I agree that some of the footage looks about the same as the current DVD, but parts of it really seem to come to life; of course it's always hard for me to really judge from these trailers. And wow that packaging looks amazing. Thanks for posting, DK!

Some more material passed through the BBFC (I'm stealing Kelvin's job
):
27m 36s THE WIZARD OF OZ - MEMORIES OF OZ
29m 44s THE WIZARD OF OZ - THE ART OF IMAGINATION: A TRIBUTE TO OZ
Oh, and for anybody in the UK interested in the 3 Disc Set, PLAY USA have the set for pre-order now. Whilst PLAY are often dubbed a rip off, I should add that after converting prices, Amazon seems to be the more expensive option, which is a problem. The PLAY USA copy is selling for £17.99, just 1p under the limit for escaping tax, whilst the Amazon copy goes over the £18 no tax limit, let alone considering the expensive costs of shipping, which PLAY USA doesn't have. DVD Soon doesn't seem the DVD up for order yet.

I've updated my spec list above with new running times:
Prettier than Ever: The Restoration of Oz (12 minutes)
Because of the Wonderful Things It Does: The Legacy of Oz (25 minutes)
The Wizard of Oz (1910) (13 minutes)
The Magic Cloak of Oz (1914) (38 minutes)
His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz (1914) (59 minutes)
The Wizard of Oz (1925) (83 minutes)
The only video feature that hasn't had a confirmed running time is the new documentary on L. Frank Baum for disc three. The 2-Disc has a whopping 233 minutes' worth of video features (three hours and 53 minutes). The 3-Disc (excluding the yet-to-be-classified Baum documentary) has an even more astounding 434 minutes (seven hours and 14 minutes). Don't forget that on top of all this, there's also a commentary track, music-only track, and six hours' worth of recording sessions and radio broadcasts. Go WB!

Sadly, it appears as though the UK won't be getting a 3 disc release based on Play.com listings, so that's why there's no passes. Thank goodness for multi-region DVD players!Disneykid wrote:The only video feature that hasn't had a confirmed running time is the new documentary on L. Frank Baum for disc three.
