I've always liked the original VHS cover the best but I have no real complaints about any Cinderella cover I have seen. Maybe I'm so neutral because I don't rank the movie highly. It's a great movie but never been one of my favourites for some reason. Growing up I liked to read the Cinderella storybook my grandparents had rather than watch the movie.

I mostly agree with Joe. I like the general layout and color scheme of the cover, but Cinderella and the Prince need some refining (which will undoubtedly happen). I still would rather have Cinderella by herself up at the top, though. Where I disagree with Joe is with the slipper. I actually think having the slipper in the logo is a very nice touch. It would nice if more cover logos had some sort of icon embedded into them (like an apple for Snow White, a lamp for Aladdin, etc.).

All this talk of cover art got me thinking...The Collector's Editions of the Platinums have just a single icon on a solid color with the movie logo (well for Lion King and Aladdin). I'd prefer this very simple style of coverart since it in a way seems more artistic and reveals a little bit about the movie without telling too much or it reminds people who have seen the movie of what happens. With most of the Platinums, there is some kind of important icon in the film or one could be made...

Snow White - the apple
Beauty and the Beast - the rose or the magic mirror
The Lion King - Rafiki's picture of Simba
Aladdin - the lamp
Bambi - umm...Bambi himself, or elements of nature
Cinderella - the glass slipper
Lady& the Tramp - a plate of spaghetti! :)
The LIttle Mermaid - the trident or Ursula's conch shell or Ariel herself
The Jungle Book - a book, I'm not quite sure since I never saw this movie
101 Dalmations - a dalmation spot

I don't know. Her face holding the slipper reminds me of when Ursula gets the Tridant (sp?)... :P It's probably just me and my weird way of seeing things...

It's so eerie that you said this, because I've always thought that idea would've been perfect for both the Platinums and 2-disc SE's. Here are some of my ideas that I posted on another board:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - The poisoned apple
Pinocchio - Pinocchio's cap
Fantasia - The broom propped up against a bucket of water
Dumbo - Dumbo's cap and feather
Bambi - Hmm...perhaps a closeup of Bambi's tail with the butterfly on it?
Cinderella - The glass slipper
Alice in Wonderland - Either the White Rabbit's pocket watch or the Drink Me bottle
Peter Pan - Peter's cap
Lady and the Tramp - A plate of spaghetti
Sleeping Beauty - The spinning wheel
101 Dalmatians - Dalmatian spots
The Jungle Book - A group of bananas
The Little Mermaid - Ursula's shell necklace
Beauty and the Beast - The enchanted rose
Aladdin - The magic lamp
The Lion King - Rafiki's Simba sketch
Pocahontas - John Smith's compass
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Either a bell or Quasi's carved versions of the cast
Hercules - Hercules' medallion
Mulan - Mulan's haircomb
Tarzan - The portrait of Tarzan's family
Fantasia 2000 - Noah's ark
The Emperor's New Groove - Kuzcotopia
Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Kida's crystal necklace
Lilo and Stitch - David's surfboard or Lilo's doll
Brother Bear - Kenai's bear token

Ok, now I've got completely off topic. In an effort to make this on topic...

Cinderella's a great movie. There, that works. :P

:D Great minds think alike! :)

That would be really awesome if the DVD covers were really like that. I would love a Lilo and Stitch cover with just Skrump or a Hunchback cover with his wood carvings or a TENG with Kuzcotopia! I just wish I had the time and programs and resources to make these covers on my own.

omg, lol me and friend were just talking about the simple thing the other night. we were invisioning the symbol being foil-like in a color that matches the movie. with nothing else but a black case. And each movie would be packaged like the first two harry potter movies were. I think it would give them an elegant uniform look. Only i'd extend this collection beyond the platinum editions and make it it's own collection, and it'd have a lot more movies involved and be released more frequently, maybe 3 a year.

As for now i'm very happy with the platinum editions and i cannot wait to see Cinderella in it's PE glory!!!

Those would be awsome, instead of the current generic-overcrowded-banal ones.
Would they look like the French Pocahontas one? (white w/ the feather)

cover art

Post by stitcharielbeast »

Here's what i think the covers should look like:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - The magic mirror showing the poisoned apple

Pinocchio - Jiminnie Cricket falling with his umbrella (sort of like the 'Wishes' CD cover)

Fantasia - The fantasia anthology symbol or a sorcerer mickey silhouette

Dumbo - Dumbo flying (it was a cartoony movie)
Bambi - the current cover is alright

Cinderella - The glass slipper

Alice in Wonderland - a hole with Alice looking down on it

Peter Pan - Tinker Bell

Lady and the Tramp - recreation of the Spaghetti scene

Sleeping Beauty - the prince kissing Aurora

101 Dalmatians - Dalmatian spots all over the cover

The Jungle Book - it was a fun movie, deserves a fun cover with all the characters

The Little Mermaid - the original teaser poster where Ariel looks up at the night sky

Beauty and the Beast - a stained glass enchanted rose

Aladdin - The magic lamp

The Lion King - Rafiki's Simba sketch

Pocahontas - the french cover with the feather and Pocahontas' face

The Hunchback of Notre Dame - A window with Quasi's eyes peeking through

Hercules - Hercules action figure/ or a greek pot with Hercules on it

Mulan - Mulan's sword and haircomb

Tarzan - the teaser poster with the sketch of Tarzan

Fantasia 2000 - the Fantasia anthology symbol

The Emperor's New Groove - the golden kuzco lama

Atlantis: The Lost Empire - the big 'A'

Treasure Planet - The map

Lilo and Stitch - Just show Lilo and Stitch framed in a hawaiian type square then have flowers all over the cover

Brother Bear - the brother bear logo with the hand and paw print

The first of these two is tdefinetly the best of the bunch, the prince should not even be on the cover, at most in the back.

I don't mind any of the covers, except the one with the Prince and Cinderella surrounded by the soldiers. It doesn't fit wit the rest of the PE's and SE's

I also really like the idea of having an important item on the logo/title, but some of them are too weird for me... I would keep:

Cinderella - glass slipper

Aladdin - lamp

Lion King - Simba drawing

Beauty and the Beast - the enchanted rose

For Mulan, I really like dragons... I think the comb is too much

Snow White - The mirror... the apple is cool but I can't picture a logo with an apple... don't really like it much...

this is gonna sound stupid...but when i saw the trailer for Cinderella on my Bambi dvd, i think that it made Cinderella seem really sinister and creepy, especially when the camera moved up in the middle of the spiral staircase, and that music played..

Mind you i've never seen Cinderella, so maybe i didnt see it the way everyone else did.

Luke has posted info on a giftset that the DVD will be available in:
Video Business reports that when Cinderella makes its DVD debut this October (the movie's first home video release in 10 years), it will be offered in a Collector's Gift Set ($49.99 SRP) in addition to the expected $29.99 SRP 2-disc Platinum Edition. The Gift Set will include a limited edition book, character sketches by animator Ollie Johnston and a numbered film frame.
So it seems all October Platinums will be having giftsets, as opposed to the idea of giftsets, period being cancelled like we all thought. I guess this means The Little Mermaid and 101 Dalmatians will most likely have giftsets whereas Lady and the Tramp and The Jungle Book won't. Let the speculation begin.

Oh! I'll be so happy if there's a Little Mermaid boxset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It makes sense that such a movie gets something, it's up there with Aladdin, and so is Cinderella.

Interesting theory, Kelvin. I wouldn't have expected Bambi to get a gift set, and I think the only two that seem like the right kind of release for that are Mermaid (which definitely will) and LatT. Dalmatians and Jungle Book just don't have the right vibe for some reason, nor does Bambi. That's just my take, which probably doesn't mean much as I thus far haven't been attracted to the gift sets.

To be honest, I agree with you, Aaron. I can't see 101 Dalmatians or Jungle Book getting giftsets whereas I can for Lady and the Tramp and The Little Mermaid. I just figure that since we didn't see a set for Bambi but instead for Cinderella, Disney may be focusing on their bigger October titles. Then again, I'm not the best judge considering I'm still having a hard time picturing Dalmatians and Jungle as Platinums, period (I still think those two spots should've gone to Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland, but what do I know?).
