What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

MMP- which version? I'm very undecided over which to buy. Does the just-released version contain the theatrical version? When it says new beginning and end- does it contain the original?

Apparently the new beginning and ending aren't actually included in the film itself, so it is not really an "Extended Edition" per se.

According to Digital Bits: "Universal re-releases this title as a new "extended" edition, but don't be fooled. The extension is not part of the film. The transfer is the same as the original special edition, but here is a new opening thrown into the supplements non-anamorphically and the alternate ending that was a "deleted scene" from the first edition. The commentary from the first edition with director Doug Liman is excluded, as is the DTS soundtrack. We do get some nice (but fluffy) featurettes though..."

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Loomis. I'm pleased to see that the "extensions" are just bonus features. The movie is good, not good enough to buy twice, so I get both in the new release. I'm not so pleased about the other drawbacks mentioned, though. At least it has a slip-cover :P.

Picked up two relative cheap DVDs at Dollar Tree: Make Room for Daddy (3 episodes), and Bonanza. Haven't watched them yet, but considering they're from Dollar Tree, the quality will probably have a lot of grain and those black blips that appear ever so often. I'll probably pick up Final Destination next time the family goes to Target.

I finally got The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King. Its absence stuck out like a sore thumb in my collection.

Big day today:

2 of the BBC's Ghost Stories for Christmas DVDs arrived. As you may know, I adore the old BBC Christmas Ghost stories! A bit pricey as each only runs for 40-50 mins, but they do come with an audio reading of the original stories that inspired them, and I'll tell you now, they're some of the best adaptations of spooky stories you'll ever see. Looking forward to taking these to my parents at Christmas and us all sitting down in front of a coal fire watching them on Christmas Eve.

The Signalman based on Charles Dickens' short story
A Warning for the Curious based upon M R James' short story

I also recieved:

Most Haunted Series 2 pt 2
Most Haunted Series 3 pt 1

Sadly Series 2 pt 1 is out of stock at the moment :(

and, last but not least:

Panic Room 3 Disc Special Edition I doubt I will watch all the supplements, and the film didn't interest me that much, it's not close to Fincher's best. But it was cheap. :)
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

You may even want to wait for a box set with Bourne Supremacy! I'm sure it is only a matter of time...

This week saw the arrival of:
Police Story: Jackie Chan in one of his finest hours (well, hour and a half). Great DVD (it is the Hong Kong Legends edition). Got it for only ÂŁ4.99 too! (Free postage from CD-Wow...took less than 3 days to travel the globe!).

And for the low low price of $25 CDN I picked up The Woody Allen Four-Movie Comedy Collection, containing:
- Small Time Crooks
- Curse of the Jade Scorpion
- Hollywood Ending
- Anything Else

Hey Aaron - I have that one too, although I dont consider it part of my DVD collection per se. I would like to go in about three years. Take about two weeks to go to DisneyWorld and the cruise. I better start saving now.

I think you made a mistake with Return of the King, should have held out for the Director's cut in November.

As for me, Soap - Soap the Complete Second Season.

Yeah, it's more a fantasy order for me than a realistic one. We are planning to take a family cruise sometime in the near future, but I doubt I'll be able to sell the family on a Disney cruise. It's something I'd like to do within the next 10 years, though. I guess I technically consider it a part of the collection, though you can't list it on DVDAficionado.

I'm buying both the 2-Disc and 4-Disc sets of each of the LOTR movies. :D Now that I have all 3 2-Discers, I'll go back and buy the 4-Disc sets too. It's important to me to have the theatrical cuts of the film along with the director's cut (not with all films- but it is with these), and I've been told that you don't have that option with the 4-Disc sets.

I would agree with you in most cases. However, with the Return of the King, the actual cut that the director wanted was the 5+ hour version on the four disc version. However, theatres would never go for that. They deleted some pretty important stuff regarding the banishment of Sarumon and worm tongue that would have made the movie make a little more sense.

Yeah, I'm totally with you there. I'll almost always watch the 4-Disc sets. There are two reasons I want both: (a)Just to have them- a look back at what I originally saw that made me like them so much, (b)Duration. I have friends who I would like to introduce to LOTR who, as much as I may not like it, would absolutely refuse to watch a 5+ hours movie, so I'd like to have the theatrical cut for that purpose. Also, there will be times I'd like to watch it that I won't have the extra 2+ hours to spare. Hopefully that makes sense.

Just picked up Jumpin' Jack Flash, which I knew about thanks to JJJ's post. When I opened it, the disc was loose (I HATE it when that happens). There are a few minor scrarches, but it was the only copy the store had. I'm gonna watch it, and hopefully it works perfectly. If not, back to the store it goes and I'll just have to order it online.

Aaron, is this that free promotional DVD? How do you get it?

Also, today at Target, we got a new toaster, a mini coffee maker, some snacks, itch cream for these irritating bugbites, and an unprecedented FOUR DVDs at one time (yeah, my family's cheap, we usually do like one DVD a month).

Legally Blonde (Mom got this)
The Happiest Millionaire (Kram got this)
Final Destination (I got this)
When Harry Met Sally... (I got this too)
