Who said Maleficent is a sorceress and not a fairy? In the original fairy tale she was a fairy. So she was probably meant to be a fairy in the animated version, too.

In the musical adventure comedy (due on your TV in 2015), the kingdom’s worst baddies have been exiled to the Isle of the Lost, a remote prison cut off from the world. After 20 years, Ben—the son of Belle and the Beast, and heir apparent to the throne—makes his first proclamation to free the children of the villains and offer them redemption. Thus, we meet our main quartet— Mal (Dove Cameron), Jay (Booboo Stewart), Evie (Sofia Carson) and Carlos (Cameron Boyce)—as they attend a prep school where they encounter other offspring of Disney heroes (including Mulan’s daughter Lonnie, Cinderella’s son Chad, and Dopey’s son Doug).

Will the teens carry out their parents’ evil wishes, or will they forge their own identities? Whether or not they do, at least we know that they’ll look ever so similar to their famous parents. Check out a first look at Descendants, which also stars Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent, Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, Maz Jobrani as Jafar, and Wendy Raquel Robinson as Cruella de Vil.

Yeah, judging from that picture alone, I don't think I'm going to care for this show either. I don't blame you. Disney Channel used to do an excellent job of celebrating their history back when they had that late-night Vault Disney block that showed all kinds of old cartoons and television shows from the Walt Disney era. Now the channel seems to be more about teen sitcoms and stuff. I haven't even been watching today's Disney Channel anymore anyway, even though I absolutely loved Phineas & Ferb and thought it was one of the best cartoons to come out of Disney today.

If anything, those 1980's-style clothes indicate this is just going to be a bit of harmless goofy fun and nothing to get enraged over. It's not like these characters are going to be considered canon with the animated movies or anything.

I'm actually really curious to see how Kristen Chenoweth will play Maleficent. She's one of those actors I find very hard to dislike and I have a feeling she is going to have a ball of a time in the part.

I feel the same way, on both counts. I still don't understand why people are taking this stupid, little movie so seriously. Average people do not watch the Disney channel, and this will have 0 effect on the success of Disney's future theatrical films. It's trash just like all Disney channel movies, and will be forgotten almost as soon as it's finished airing.

This seems so gonzo and so insane that it might actually work. And by "work," I do mean be a "Liz and Dick" style camp fest that is not to be taken seriously in the least. Anyone who is complaining about this "ruining" the legacy of any characters or is using it as ammunition to fuel hate towards the Disney company is so in left field about it. I mean we've only seen one image and it's clear this is not intended to be taken seriously. I mean...Kristin Chenoweth is playing Maleficent...and I guess it'll be nice to see Kathy Najimy on the screen again. Anyone complaining about this movie are likely taking it wayyyyy too seriously. Camp-tastic concept and casting aside...it's on Disney Channel....are we suddenly going to be taking every original program aired on that channel seriously?
