Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
If there is some hope for the sequel, Bobin did point out of how much of a fan he is of Carrol's work and views the satirical approach in a full degree. So he and Linda Woolverton must've worked on a script that has to be VASTLY DIFFERENT than the first film.

As far as we are aware, the cast hasnt spoken of the film, have they?
Personally, I think it would be great if the Made Hatter was written out …..

Lol@ "Made Hatter." Brings up visions of an oddly chapeau'd mafia wiseguy next to a rabbit at the tea table.Atlantica wrote:

I sure hope that Woolverton doesn't screw up the father/son idea and Cohen's character is a new villian named Time. Interesting so far.Old Fish Tale wrote:Mark Rylance was cast as the Mad Hatter's father. Click here.

Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
You mean the sequel has a chance to be marketed towards Johnny Depp again like the original? Maybe, maybe not. I just noticed something, this is the first time that writer Linda Woolverton has done anything with a father/son relationship in a live action Disney movie (not counting Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey).Atlantica wrote:Oh poop.

Is it just me or has it gone really quietly into production ? Normally there is more of a build up, no? Or was this just kept a secret so well ?

Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
I feel the same way, Atlantica. After all these years, I really never expected the sequel to get off the ground so it was very surprising to read that they're already filming. I liked the first one as a fun popcorn flick, so I'm looking forward to this one. It's scheduled to premiere the same day as my 21st birthday, so perhaps I'll catch it on opening day and go out for drinks afterwards?

Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
Haha, do it UmbrellaFish, why not ?!
Just seems that none of the actors even have said anything …. normally you get a bit of warning from someone starring in the film mentioning the fact they'll be getting to work on it soon etc. Normally Helena is very vocal on things like this, but clearly not this time ! Wonder why ?

Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
I enjoyed the first movie and I am happy about this, and excited that all the main cast will be back (including both the White and the Red Queens - I do hope Anne Hathaway will be featured more in this one).
But - Linda Woolverton yet again, sigh... Well, it can't turn out as bad as Maleficent. And although I hoped for a live action adaption of Sleeping Beauty with that movie, I view the Alice live action movies like something completely separated from the 1951 animated movie. I consider them to be very roughly based on the original books. Alice, the Mad Hatter and all the other characters doing some stuff in Wonderland (or Through the Looking Glass)? I'm all aboard.
One thing that really annoys me with Woolvertons scripts is that she insists on changing the names or making up stupid names for many of the characters (both in Alice and Maleficent), and I'm sure she has come up with some new ridicilous names for this movie.
I'm curious about how high the box office for this movie will be since the original passed 1 billion worldwide at the box office. It surely can't surpass the original, who was riding high on the names of Tim Burton, Disney, Johnny Depp, and also had the fortunate opportunity to be the next big 3D movie to come after Avatar? Or can it?
Tim Burton is not the director of this one, the novelty is gone (people checking out the first movie out of curriosity might not be excited for the sequel), Johnny Depp is no longer as popular that he used to be, and the first movie was not revieved very favorably by critics (it made a huge amount of money, but people online seems hostile towards the movie)...
On the other hand - sequels tend to get a jump in their box office, Alice in Wonderland is a widely reknown book, and the first movie was a huge success commercially. And with Disney's marketing possibilities (Disneyland, Disney Store, Disney Channel, merchandise etc) at disposal - no other movie studio should be able to do a better job with the marketing. Disney have screwed up the marketing before on big movies before (John Carter, The Lone Ranger etc).

Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
If the teaser will be solely Johnny Depp based, it will be extreme disappointing. And exactly the same as the last film; an over-saturation on the Hatter because he's Johnny Depp.
Re: Alice in Wonderland sequel
Hope this teaser doesn't show the way she falls back into Wonderland……Why then even bother calling it 'through the looking glass'….as far as I recall that's still a mirror

Haha! That teaser was actually funny! I rarely laugh at a teaser, but that one was really funny.
