Now, if there were going to recycle old cover art, why couldn't they have used the one from the '80s, with the Big Ben in the background? One of the most beautiful covers Disney has ever done if you asked me...

That when it comes to DVDs, Disney is shamelessly selling the orignal/old ones and passing them as new.

Here in Spain, several of those movies were out of print prior to the release; I know beause I tried to get The Rescuers Down Under for a friend and was told so.

Now that the movies have been released on Blu Ray you also find the DVD´s counterparts and are the same old ones that weren´t available before.

Another example of how you can tell?

The original Pocahontas DVD info on the box said that the movie han an aspect ratio of 4X3.

Now, you go ahead and look for the DVD and the box still says 4X3.

If it was a new release that came algongside the DVD the box should read 16X9. The movie has gotten a new restoration, right?

While I think the Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast "restorations" look disgusting, I have to say that I love the one from the 2007 Peter Pan dvd.

Although the picture is very clear, the colors and atmosphere still feel right, like the time when the film came out. Watching it I don't feel the big style/time clash, as I feel with watching the flashy and pinky Cinderella.

I think they did it just right with Peter Pan. The 2002 dvd looks way too sharp and it sucks all the life out of the film (the saturday morning cartoon look). The 2007 version is much more toned down, dreamier, which makes it richer and full of life. And because of the pastel colors, paler skins, etc, it actually looks like it was made in the time it was made in.

I hope they put this version on blu ray too.

Which makes me think about an important aspect of 2d animation;
"Sharper is not better".

Such a shame. I would love to know the reasoning behind Disney losing interest in their home releases. And I don't think the whole 'going digital' thing is an excuse.

Same here. I expect the U.S. disc will be more carefully compiled than the European release.

Still, I'll look around for reviews to see what the UK Blu-ray is like, when they are published. For all we know, the European and U.S. releases may be identical.

Wait, what ???

So 'Diamond Editions' aren't world wide any more ? I am truly gutted. I love Peter Pan, and am sad the European release will just be a vanilla disc.

Are US Blu rays region free?

And if they use that image as the cover, it would be absolutely beautiful. And -shock, horror-quite imaginative for Disney !
