Thank to answer
From what I understand, that would not be decided until closer to the time. A lot of speculation is that Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Thomas Staggs might be the replacement. However, there are many of the Disney board that feel he would make a bad choice. Time will tell, that is really all that can be said about it right now.

In the mean time, Iger is CEO. However, he isn't really the guy we'd need to convince to release more vintage titles anyway, Robert Chapek is. He is the he Chairman of Disney Consumer Products Worldwide, meaning he is the top dog in the Home Entertainment side of the company.

The only title I really could see Iger caring enough to say anything is "Song of the South." That one I think right now we would have to get past him. Outside of that, I don't think he cares, he is more interest in modern film making and what new things the studio can come up with. Our guy is Chapek.

Aspect Ratio poll

Post by milojthatch »

Right now on Open Vault Disney, we have a poll going about how important the correct aspect ratio for DVD or Blu-ray release is. I'm pushing it a bit more then most polls there becuase this one could be important. Please, go to our Facebook page if you are not there already and vote on this issue.

We hope to use this poll and up coming letters/ e-mails to highlight this glaring issue to the good folks over at Disney Home Entertainment. Thanks guys!

Great to hear! I'm really that that the "Generations Collection" is not dead yet, and these are two titles I hope will make some folks happy. By helping our efforts over at Open Vault Disney, we hope more releases like these will come. Thanks guys!

I've been waiting for these two titles for awhile now, but I don't see a release date on the Amazon page. Is "pre-ordering" largely the same as buying in the case of "on-demand" titles?

Something about $19.99 for a DVD-R makes me uneasy. I would love a couple of these (Child of Glass, Waltz King).

They are officially released on Tuesday. So, they are available for pre-order for one more day, then they will start to make titles that are purchased. Hope that clears things up.

At different times the films that had already been released have gone on sale for $17.99, but I hear you. At Open Vault Disney, we have tried to talk the powers that be into lowering the price by $5 or something, but I don't think if that happens it will be anytime soon. It is frustrating, especially when the Warner Archive has 5 for $50 sales, essentially making their films $10 each, but Disney has always had a different business model and good luck to anyone changing that.

But, look on the brighter side, while they are DVD-r's, they are the best quality they could be. I know, I've bought a few already. Plus, they are hands down better (and fully legal) then the alternative boot legs. It's great to have these titles and I for one look forward to more! We really hope they come and I think they just might. Clearly they are not done with this collection. :D

will these two titles be available through the DMC?? do we know yet what sort of quality these two releases are? no offense, but, if they are simply dvr rips from the 80's vhs releases...I am not spending 40 dollars for them.

I need to start out by saying there are a lot of details I don't know. I know what I was told a few months ago when I briefly had communication with an official rep (working on getting something more permanent right now), and I know what makes sense with basic logic.

I know for a fact that thus far, every title in this collection has not come from the original source (Master Tape), but from their original VHS sources, right down to the images on the case. I do know that at least as of now, all vintage Disney films not yet released will be released either via the DMC or these DVDr's from now on. I do know that there are no plans as of now to release a title via one of these ways and then re-releases it the other, as in MOD to DMC or DMC to MOD. I know that this is literally it for both of these titles (possibly the last time we'll see them on a physical format?), and it is as good as we can expect to get them from the studio.

That said, while I don't have these two titles yet, I do personally own two of the original titles from this collection, and I am satisfied with both. Via Open Vault Disney, we plan on reviewing as many of these titles as we can. That is not to say I personally don't have my issues with this collection, the biggest so far possibly being with the release of "Amy," but I also know that the folks in charge have been working really hard on getting both these and DMC titles released. Many of the issues are higher up then the folks that are putting this collection together. From time to time, the MOD titles have been seen as low as $17.99 each. My hope is that after some time, they might start to drop the price for these titles. But I don't know if they will or not.

I do know however if you have complaints, please, write specific people at Disney about them (noted on our web site at openvaultdisney.com) and make sure you let them know Open Vault Disney sent you. The more folks we have joining us in letters and e-mails, the more likely it is they will listen.

Oh yes, and no offense taken. Trust me, if I was the guy running this collection, there would be a number of changes. Sadly, I'm not. But, I am the guy running the largest Disney DVD fan campaign on the net. Via that campaign, we might be able to make our voices heard over at Disney Home Entertainment. Thanks.

It does, along with your other information on the general line, thanks.

I prefer this idea over DMC as there is nothing to join to get them, even if the price is steep for what you get.

If anybody gets copies and can post screencaps I'd appreciate that.

Right now, as in today, I own "Student Exchange" and "Goldrush." I plan on picking up some more of these titles when I have the money. My life is rather busy, but again, as soon as I have the time, I am going to write reviews for both of the titles I own and future titles in this collection. Screen caps will be part of this.

Both of the new titles are currently on sale at $17.99 on Amazon. So if your interested in them now would be good time to get for a bit cheaper.

If any of you get these, when you receive them, can you post pictures of what you actually get?

I noticed Amy was added to the generations line. I remember seeing this one ages ago, except I can't remember if I saw it on TV or at school.

Without owning that one specifically, I'll tell you right now "Any" is not in it's original aspect ratio. Why that is especially frustrating is becuase the same film via Amazon's digital streaming version is.

I'm currently working on the first of what will be many reviews for this line and hope to have it up soon.

I'm working hard on a review for "Student Exchange" that I hope to have done before this week is over. But, till then, the guys over at Home Entertainment Forum have a review up for one of the newest entries, "Child of Glass."

That is one thing I can never seem to get a straight up answer about. If I was a betting man, I'd say these might be it for the various titles. That said, there is the hope that if any given title did really well, it could get a retail re-release and maybe then, have a better transfer. But I don't know in truth.
