Forgot Atlantis.
Another one that coud have been great but wasn´t. My main complains are:
1. Lack of time for characters development
2. Very few action sequences
3. A journey that wasn´t. It didn´t take them long to find the way to Atlantis. And once they found the path to follow arrived in Atlantis in a matter of minutes.
Wasn´t the main focus of the story to be the journey? Or was a I mistaken by the trailer?

The Country Bears.
I know, most of you probably just thought that was a bad idea from the start. Not me. There's no reason a Country Bears movie couldn't have been done right. It could be similar to a Muppet movie, or it could be traditionally animated (would have loved to have seen that), but everything they did about this thing was so wrong! Okay, besides having Christopher Walken. That's never a bad idea.
So, go back to when we just heard they were going to make a Country Bears movie, that would be where I had high hopes. By the time the trailers came along, it was clear this wasn't right. Like I've always said, a traditionally animated Country Bears movie, with designs closely based on the show and a plot that took place in Bear Country, could have been awesome. What we got, unrecognizable bears in a Blues Brothers rip-off with a terrible selection of musical cameos.

Oh, and in regards to Atlantis, yeah, they should have followed the Indiana Jones formula much more than a video game formula.

I don't know so much that it didn't live up to my expectations, but there was ALOT riding on Princess and the Frog to be brilliant. It was the first hand drawn animation for 5 years out the studio and the first fairy tale in 18 years out the studio. Not forgetting the constant promo material and all the hype.
I liked it alot, but I was expecting something on par with Aladdin/B&tB/Little Mermaid, etc. It was a nice film but it was just waaayy too much time spent in a swamp as frogs for my liking. At times it didn't even feel like a fairy tale, It felt like they relied too much on frog gags alot of the time.
It couldn't have been easy trying to adapt a story like tPatF. It doesn't really lend itself well to a movie, but still, I would have liked to see more time as humans, more backstory and character development. A bigger element on magic wouldn't have hurt either.
Like I said, it was a nice film but wasn't exactly the masterpiece I was expecting. Although I was actually pleasently suprised when it came to Tangled. I was ecpecting Shrek: the remake but instead got a wonderfully warm and fun film full of more than enough magic.
I was pleasently suprised by Hercules too, the first time I saw it.

Ratatouille was a bit of a disappointment as far as Pixar films. Even though it's set in Paris, you really don't see much of it and the fact that many of the French accents in the characters were either really fake or completely absent doesn't help it much. Plus Collette and Liguini were godawfully annoying haracters. The ending was good though.

Speaking of Pixar, Up and WALL E were huge letdowns. I didn't have any expectations for Cars or its sequel, but I really had high expectations for those two because of the uncommon concepts and didn't enjoy either or them. Finding Nemo was also a little disappointing because the popularity had me looking forward to more than I got from that film.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

The only PIXAR films I didn't think were MASTERPIECES were the Cars films. The disappointment was only in regards to the fact that I expect better from PIXAR. I can't say that the ideas for the movies ever caused me to expect them to be great, but being from PIXAR, I only expect great things. The first one may have been as good as such a movie can be, though. The second one, well, you could probably say the same, but I still think the idea itself was dumb. Still, it's not without entertainment value, and I do seem to like it more with repeat viewings.

I do, but that doesn't save the rest of the movie (for me).Dr Frankenollie wrote: if you have a heart, you'd still find both the prologue and the scene of Carl flipping through Ellie's scrapbook touching.

Oh, I just remembered, I wanna add Meet the Robinsons to some degree. I like the film, but it was hurt so badly by that big chunk in the middle where we're seeing how crazy and fun the family members are. It just wasn't funny, but it was supposed to be. I love a lot about this movie, but when it came to the humor, I felt a lot of it just didn't work. I also didn't care much for a lot of the humor during the science fair. In fact, some of it reminded me of Chicken Little too much. Yet, there are things about that film I love, including Bowler Hat Guy and even some of the humor.

Meet the Robinsons was definitely a bipolar film. The second half of the film and the ending is great but the first half is a big WTF. It's almost like two different directors decided to work on on half of the film each.slave2moonlight wrote:Oh, I just remembered, I wanna add Meet the Robinsons to some degree. To be honest, I never really understood the hate for Atlantis. I won't say that its the best Disney movie I've ever seen, but I still enjoyed it and thought it was somewhat refreshing, despite the lack of time for character development (especially for Helga).DC Fan wrote:Forgot Atlantis.
