I got my copy of Smash Bros Brawl today and it is awesome so far. The graphics are really impressive and the controls are not too bad.

For the people that have picked up Brawl so far, is the Gamecube controls the way to go as far as playing the game? I know pretty much all reviews say to use one, or a Classic Controller if you don't have a Gamecube one.

I want to go out and pick this up today, but I'm waiting. I want to make sure my Wii works when I get it back this time before I invest in the game.

Also how is the online gaming?

Yay! People actually have the game now!
Here's my review I wrote up last month:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl – A Spoiler-Free Review

Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Samus, Fox McCloud, Yoshi, Pikachu. Ten years ago these characters were at the front line of the gaming industry and Nintendo's big hitters and in 1999 they appeared together in the same game for the first time in Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64. Super Smash Bros. was a money maker for Nintendo selling nearly 5 million units worldwide but it was met with mixed reviews.

Nearly ten years later and the third instalment in the Super Smash Bros. series has been released in Japan – Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. This game is undeniably one of the most anticipated video games in history– in just under a week sales in Japan are over 500,000 units and with the US release next month and the European release later in the year it also looks to be one of the most successful games in recent years. But is it worth the anticipation? Is it worth the wait?
The answer is a resounding yes.

Unlike the previous two instalments Super Smash Bros. Brawl has a full fleshed out story mode – the Subspace Emissary. I will not go into any detail about the actual story but Nintendo could easily have chosen to release this separately, lasting just over ten hours with an excellent storyline the Subspace Emissary is an excellent addition to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The previous games in the series lacked any true story mode but Masahiro Sakurai – Brawl's director has added it and made it better than you could ever dream of. There's one thing I very rarely do when playing a video game nowadays – have fun. Sure some games have great graphics and an excellent plot but it doesn't mean it's fun. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is fun, very fun and not only the multiplayer sections but the Subspace Emissary too – being a Platformer the Subspace Emissary is currently bested by very few titles currently on the market – one being Nintendo's own Super Mario Galaxy. No matter what section you are playing the Subspace Emissary is at core – fun.

The past games have been known for they're excellent multiplayer and Brawl only improves on that with it's Wi-Fi capabilities. You can now battle anyone in the world online using the Wii's Wi-Fi connection and from all the matches I've played – with the forum's very own Wii_Rush there is very little lag at all. Though you can't only battle over Wi-Fi – you can be a spectator in other matches too and bet on the player you think will win. Although most players will be just interested in battling others, being a spectator allows you to not only win some coins but you can also pick up some very good strategy and tactics from other fighters enabling you to improve your game. A little niggle that I have with this however is that you can't let's say choose to spectate a match that someone on your friend roster is currently participating in. The non-Wi-Fi multiplayer is as good as ever and the gameplay remains unchanged.

The character roster has also been expanded and although I won't go into detail there are many new additions as well as exclusions. Unfortunately clones are still a bit of a problem, although lessened in Brawl and Final Smashes (basically a move you can preform once you break the 'Smash Ball' item, usually the characters most powerful move) are repeated among some. The method of unlocking characters is much easier in Brawl than it's predecessors, a bit too easy as well.

Now not many games will raise this question but how will you play Brawl? There are four possible different control methods – the Wii Remote and Nunchuck which use the Wii's motion sensing controls, the Wii Remote on it's side, the Classic Controller and the Gamecube controller. Personally I have opted for the Classic Controller but sometimes I just fancy changing my control method. There's something here to suit everyone.

Another point I wish to raise in this review is the soundtrack, with over 200 tracks from different series' in Brawl for your listening pleasure you might find your self just listening to the music. The music comes from over thirty different composers ranging from Koji Kondo to Yoko Shimomura so it is a good way to relax when you are just too tired to play.

Brawl has got the ultimate replay value and will have you playing for several months or even years into the future but the clones bring it down a notch. It is still the best Wii game out so far though and the graphical quality surpasses even Super Mario Galaxy.
9/10

I played all 4 options. Gamecube is great. Bt the wiimote on side isn't bad either. Just takes ahile get use to control system. wii with nunchuck isn't the best and classic is alright.

I got game and is like 75% done getting everything.

I'm still stoked for Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Yeah, I still haven't gotten the chance to go out and buy the game. I got off work this past Friday, walked out the door, where the cold air hit my lungs, and wham, have been sick, since. A guy I work with was sick this past Wednesday. As he was leaving, he told me to wipe down the phones, the desk, and everything else, because he had been coughing. So, I did as he suggested, and also sprayed Lysol. It did nothing to help. Turns out, he had the flu. I now have the flu. I went to the doctor, yesterday, because I thought I was dying. They did the little nose swab test, and it came back positive for flu. So, here I am, stuck at home, and can't even get out to get the game I've been waiting years for! I'm out of work for the week, and I'm just laying here, trying to get better, while I know everyone in the world is playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out this weekend and pick up a copy, providing that I am feeling better. I better be feeling better, with all of the pills I was prescribed, including Tamiflu.

Anyway, enough of me complaining. I hope you are all enjoying Brawl. I hope to join you all in battle, soon.

Finally got a Wii back today that works (3 repairs in 2 months :( ), so I'll probably pickup Brawl this weekend.

I've heard good and bad things about the online though. I'm also excited about Kart in April. I hope these two games keep me occupied for awhile on the Wii. There isn't much else coming out that are must haves... at least for me.

I picked up Brawl tonight, and I have to say its pretty good. If your familiar with Melee its basically more of the same. Not to say thats bad. The graphics are a nice step up from Melee, but the game overall feels slower. The Gamecube controller is great, and the same as it was in Melee. I haven't tried any other controls, and I might not. Gamecube just feels right for this game.

One thing I found odd is it told me I could only save a 3 min video or something when it created the save file... is that normal? anyone else get that?

One thing I was looking forward to the most is the thing I'm disappointed in the most. Online play. The first time I tried it I sat at the practice stage and it eventually gave an error. I came back a few hours later and tried again. It takes awhile to find people and get started, but the 1st 2 games went great (I lost 2nd and 3rd places... I need practice). I went to try again and the 3rd and 4th games were filled with lag. It would run fine for about 15 secs or so then almost completely lock up. I've heard about Brawl lagging, but I didn't know it was that bad. It was unplayable so I disconnected.

Overall its a good game, but so far its not the experience I was hoping for. I thought this would be my fav Wii game, but I'm still going to have to go with Galaxy for now. Galaxy was completely different, while Brawl is basically an upgraded Melee. In time when I get more play time in, and unlock more characters, etc... that may change.

wow...i finally get internet signal

anyway

my brother got this on sunday and it just rocks!!!
i beat story mode after nine hours and i almost unlocked all characters (wolf is still missing)
i couldn't get over how cool everyone looked, although it did remind me a little too much of kingdom hearts for some reason.
pokemon trainer and pit are really good characters, i've never before felt that i wanted to use any other character than pikachu and they did the trick.

Mario Kart Wii is going to be great. I hope they get the online mode better than Brawl. After playing almost all night, the online mode is the only thing I'm not liking on Brawl. Its full of lag half the time, and its really just random matches. It also takes forever sometimes to find and setup a match depending on what time of day it is.

One thing on Kart that I was worried about isn't a worry anymore. The Wheel. You can also use a Gamecube controller on Kart (I assume the Classic Controller will work too.). I'm going to try the Wheel, but I think the traditional Gamecube controls might work better.

An update on the lag situation.

Last night it was horrible, but it was a Friday night. I tryed to play between 11pm and 2am.

This afternoon it works great. It feels just as fast as a normal Vs. match. Finding players is faster, and no slowdowns that I noticed.

My internet connection is the same today as it was last night (pings, speed, etc...) so it had to be that the Brawl servers were packed.

Anyway if you get a good connection to the servers Brawl online is pretty fun.

If this continues I'll take back my disappointment, and say Brawl is near perfect.

Bring on Kart! :D

Go back to Subspace emissary and go to The Ruins. Look for a Floating Door.

It's no surprise as the guy who works on it, worked for the Subspace Emissary story as well as Tabuu

Beat Subspace a few minutes ago. It took about 7 and a half hours (thats what the game save time was). I still need to go back and pickup a few things to get 100% on it. I'm not sure if something else happens, or not when you get 100%. I was really surprised by the Subspace story, and really enjoyed it.

I need to go back now and get the 3 characters I'm missing, and start on the other stuff in the game.

I don't own this game, and I probably never will, but I have been playing it a lot recently with a friend of mine. It is actually pretty fun, more fun that I thought it would be. I can't honestly say that I know exactly what I am doing, but I'm figuring it out and getting pretty good as I go along. I usually play with Donkey Kong because for some reason I always do really well with him.

Thanks I went back and got all three this morning. Jigglypuff is in the Swamp. Its in a door after the first blast barrel. Swim under the barrel and then you can go in the door.

Even though it took awhile to get though Subspace, I think I spent less time getting everyone on Brawl then I did on Melee. I thought it was funny that Jigglypuff was the last character I got in Brawl, and it was the first character I got in Melee.
