So, how much money do you think this film will rake in this weekend? I think it is going to be HUGE!! My local theater had 7 midnight screenings, and two 3:15 screenings, all of which were sold out. I'm seeing it tomorrow afternoon to avoid the circus, but I think it will be a HUGE weekend for this one.
Also, as we all know, Heath Ledger is getting rave reviews (even before he died) and I have a feeling he will be nominated for an Oscar for this role.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote:'The film's more than 4,366 domestic playdates is a record, surpassing the 4,362 theaters for May 2007's bow of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." Double- and triple-screening at many venues means "Dark Knight" will play on 9,200 screens in the U.S. and Canada.'
So yeah, it's big.
That's what all the papers are saying and Sir Michael Caine was last summer. I believe it too but the obstacle is lobbing a best picture nod as well. Everyone is calling it a gritty crime drama, the next Departed, or Godfather (Part two) and Richard Roper at least said that it would be wonderful for it to be nominated, which I also agree with. It would be wonderful yet highly unlikely.Simba3 ALSO wrote: I have a feeling he will be nominated for an Oscar for this role.

Got back an hour ago from a midnight showing at the Boston Common Loews (no air conditioning there, for some reason. Woo-hoo).
IT WAS AWESOME. I'm not the biggest fan of "Batman Begins" myself (I concede it is well made, but "Batman Returns" will always be my favorite for various reasons), but "The Dark Knight" was just... great. Great actors everywhere, especially Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine. Heath Ledger was astounding. Simply captivating. A very different Joker from Jack Nicholson (not in dissing Jack way). Will he get an Oscar nom? Eh. I dunno. Stranger things have happened, and I've long given up on trying the predict the whims of an Academy that deems "Juno" the best original screenplay. I certainly wouldn't mind it, as it was a great performance, and, sadly, his death certainly will make people take notice.
The problems? Act three runs a bit long and jumbled. Harvey Dent's character starts out very interesting but then gets a bit jumbled and lost as the story progresses (though he is not as wasted as Scarecrow was in "Batman Begins"). Maggie Gyllenhaal does her best (aka better than Katie Holmes) in what is a pretty bland role. The infodump in the beginning wasn't handled amazingly well, and caused me some slight confusion from the start, which isn't good.
Still, an amazing film. Go see it right now. You might be able to catch a 6 AM showing.

I saw it last night....at Midnight...theater was packed....
It is a great film...although....
I got a bit confused on what happened to Joker at the end of the movie...
Anyway I wouldn't recommend bringing kids or teens that have nightmares to this Dark Knight Batman movie.....Great movie...I hope Heath Ledger gets at least a honrary Oscar although I don't watch the oscars much but this year I might....or err umm next year for this year...
I mean its not just a superhero film.....It's for sure going to be a classic in 10 years.....I think if it wasn't for the movie being about Batman it would have been rated R....

Alright folks, it's that time! The wait is finally over! Last night, The Dark Knight officially landed in movie theatres all across America... (and the world?) This has been the most anticipated film of the year! The movie hasn't even been out an entire day yet and ticket sales are already insane. I wanted to see it in IMAX but I couldn't cause it's already sold out until Monday afternoon!
I saw this amazing film last night and HOLY SH** was it good! I'm gonna try to keep it spoiler free for a little while for those of you who haven't seen the film yet, which doesn't really give me a lot of room to talk lol. Although I must say that Heath Ledger definitely gave an AMAZING performance. It still saddens me about his untimely death and the loss of such a great actor. Will he get the Oscar nod everyone's been talking about? I wouldn't be surprised. I also loved Maggie Gyllenhaal in this film. Christian Bale did, of course, another great job but thinking back on it now, I'd have to see it again (in IMAX this time!!) to really give him a good look. It was just so difficult because all my focus was on Heath and his amazing Joker. Aaron Eckhart also did a great job as Harvey Dent.
Overall, the film had an amazing cast, beautiful cinematography, and a great script.
Bottom line: GO SEE THIS FILM!!! This is definitely my favorite film of the year, so far. I can't really think of anything that will top it between now and December.
P.S. Is there anyway we can change the name of this topic to "The Dark Knight Discussion"? I wouldn't have found it if another member hadn't told me it already existed. Thanks.

I just got back from an afternoon showing, I thought the movie was great. I don't want to say too much in here and ruin anything for those who haven't seen it yet. But, I thought it was great, and I though Heath Ledger did an amazing job, and I think he WILL get an Oscar nomination. I also loved Maggie Gyllenhaal, she's just great!! I can't wait to see how much this film rakes in this weekend, I feel like it is going to be an astronomical amount.

We need a thread where those of us who have already seen it can talk without risking spoiling it.
I just saw the movie for my second and third times today. I have to say I didn't like it as much these times as I did the first. I'm officially lowering my score from 10/10 to 8.8/10.
I don't understand the Maggie Gyllenhaal love at all. I much preferred Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes.
And did anybody else catch what may have been a hint to the villain of number three? If not here it is (Not Really Spoilerish):
*Lucius shows Bruce the new Bat-suit Armor*
Bruce: Can it stop a dog?
Lucius: It can stop a cat.
Gee, I wonder if Batman has any villains who have "Cat" in there name...

lol Me too. Makes way for an interesting woman in Bruce's life. Bring on Selina Kyle! She can make him forget about the snorefest of a girlfriend. I am disappointed about the other big death in the movie though. So much potential washed away with a single push...DaveWadding wrote:Spoiler: I prefer dead Rachel Dawes to either, personally.Widdi wrote: I don't understand the Maggie Gyllenhaal love at all. OMFG....That was totally awesome!
Spoiler:
I don't think Harvey is dead. Unless they made a mistake, I saw his chest moving, he was breathing. I think Gordon and Batman helped him fake his death. Maybe have locked him away trying to get him help. But I know I saw his chest move. Its happened in movies before, that a "dead" person was still breathing, but its a comic book movie....heroes and villains rarely stay 100% dead.
