Genesis Ark and Cult of Skaro Set

The Genesis Ark set is superb. It contains 4 daleks, including Dalek Sec. One of the Cult of Skaro Daleks has removable eyestalk, gun and sucker arm and can be placed in the Ark!
I was lucky enough to grab both of these from my local Argos Extra, before they are on general release.
I was hopeing to get this too, but they didn't have any in stock.

The Episodes 4 & 5 seem to be appeasing fans of both the famous villains and those that felt the show was too "London based". Must be a hard-target attempt to crack the US audience. I'm sure to love the episode as it will be filled with wonderful Art Deco sets (I hope).
I hope your anagram hold true, Netty, as the return of a proper ongoing villain for the Doctor would take the show in a good direction at this point. They've established the Doctor, now new fans could barrack for an anti-Doctor as well.

Sound exciting! Best part is, unlike the previous two seasons, R1 only need to wait a couple months for the episodes to air on SciFi, since it starts again in the summer!
Looking forward to the return of Captain Jack as well, and hoping for Torchwood to eventually air on SciFi (and not BBC America since I don't have that channel).

More casting news. They've only gone and got Sir Derek Jacobi!
Outpost Gallifrey wrote:One of Britain's best known actors, Sir Derek Jacobi, is to guest star in the forthcoming third series of Doctor Who, according to Thursday's Daily Mirror.
The tabloid paper also reveals the name of his character. Click on the spoiler box below to see the details. While the BBC have confirmed Jacobi's involvement, they have neither confirmed nor denied the spoiler which has resulted in much speculation in our forum.
While this is Jacobi's first appearance in televised Doctor Who, he has previously voiced the Master in the six-part animated BBCi webcast Scream of the Shalka, as well as taking a starring role in one of the Dr Who Unbound audio dramas for Big Finish in 2003.
Possible Spoiler:
According to the Daily Mirror, Jacobi will appear as a "good guy" called The Professor who helps the Doctor and Martha to save Earth and the human race.

Now, how about a Doctor Who cartoon?
Update: IT IS TRUE We have an image via the BBCs Doctor Who site
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/images/infinite.jpg/
Surely this, if true, will be on the S3 boxset? After all, its not comissioned by BBC New Media like the missing TARDISodes and web-commentary tracks were.OutpostGallifrey wrote:The Daily Mirror (which only a few days ago broke the Derek Jacobi casting story) is now reporting that an animated Doctor Who cartoon is being produced, to air as part of Totally Doctor Who next year. According to the article, David Tennant and Freema Agyeman will voice the Doctor and Martha in the animated story, and Anthony Head will play a new role (not Mr. Finch from "School Reunion").
The cartoon will have 13 parts, comprising a single story titled "Infinite Quest"; Russell T Davies tells the newspaper, "The Doctor and his assistant Martha follow a trail of clues across wild and wonderful alien worlds, to find the location of the legendary lost spaceship, the Infinite."

SPOILERS ****** (though I suppose this entire thread is full of them, thought I'd give the warning anyway) *****************
After CBC decided to air some Hockey B.S. this week, I finally get tired of waiting for them to finish Season 2, and went out and rented it. I'd read it didn't come out in Canada 'til early February, but I suppose my local video store has an american supplier, and got it from there.
I have to say, I could've done without the "Fear Her" episode... I'm not terribly into themes involving "love", especially in sci-fi.
However, I loved the 2-part finale. In my opinion, they're two of the best episodes to date... I much preferred their more serious and dramatic tone to the constant silliness that's plagued so many other episodes.
Also, that war of words between the Daleks and alternate-Cybermen had me ROTFLMAO. The constant demands to "identify yourself", the jabs they took at eachother... man, that was great, lol. It was great to see original Daleks in their prime, not any of that pseudo-religious human-spawned rebirthing that the Dalek Emperor had going. I was under the impression that Daleks didn't have the technology for Time Travel, though... I mean, it was cool when Sec "temporally shifted" away (hopefully at least one of the other four made it as well), but how did he manage it?

Well, the Daleks have always had some time travel capabilities. Over the series, we have seen how they have improved them, although, being as both The Doctor and the Daleks can travel in time, we've not seen this in order.TM2-Megatron wrote:It was great to see original Daleks in their prime, not any of that pseudo-religious human-spawned rebirthing that the Dalek Emperor had going. In The Daleks Master Plan the Daleks didn't have time travel (correction: Yes they did), but had managed to create the ultimate weapon - the Time Destructor.
In Ressurection of the Daleks we saw the Daleks had progressed to simple time travel - using "Time Corridors". In Ressurection of the Daleks the Daleks were aware of the Time Lords and Gallifrey as they planned to invade Gallifrey.
It was using similar technology stolen from the Daleks that was the plot of Day of the Daleks when freedom fighters from the future turned out to have created a paradox which iteself led to the Daleks invading Earth.
Rememberance of the Daleks had two factions of Daleks; one, the original "Renegade" Daleks were still using Time Corridor technology. Davros' "Imperial" Daleks had more advanced time travel technology, and sought to use the Hand of Omega to turn Skaro's sun into a captive black hole to power further time travel (The Time Lords used the hand of Omega to create the Eye of Harmony which powers all their time travel).
Something that is best left forgotton is the fact that the Daleks had their own TARDIS in The Chase (called a DARDIS
I guess the Daleks perfected their time travel technology before and during the "Time War" with the Time Lords. There's been hints at the possible origin of the "Time War" in the classic series. The Time Lords set the Doctor back to destroy the Daleks before they were created in Genesis of the Daleks and from Ressurection of the Daleks onwards, the Daleks have been obsessed with Time Lord technology.
The "Time War" raged across the universe and across all of time, but only those beings who were "time aware" noticed it happening. As history mutated and changed, everybody's personal history and memories changed with it.
And yes, all four members of the Cult of Skaro managed to temporal shift - back to New York in the year 1930!
* D'oh, edited to say: Yes, Daleks had time travel in The Daleks Master Plan, they go to Ancient Egypt for an extended stay and other times/places briefly.

Face of Boe! Face of Boe! Face of Boe!
Coming soon the deluxe 5" Face of Boe figure, as seen in the latest TV commercial

and here's the 2007 Series 1 wave with Boe - Slitheen and Space Pig 2 pack, Auton 2 pack, Captain Jack and the Empty Child 2 pack, Rose and Robot Spiders pack, and the "mutant reveal" Dalek.

The "mutant reveal" Dalek looks cool too. Not sure I can go for that though having just bought the Genesis Ark set.

Everyone likes Earthshock... because Adric dies!in the Double Dip thread Escapay wrote:BTW, I watched City of Death a couple nights ago, so I understand your avatar!
The story is really good, like "Why didn't I get into this series before?" good. Watched the documentary too, didn't realize just how popular the story is. Of the Doctor Who DVDs I have, I think this and Earthshock are my two favorite complete stories. From the episodes in Lost in Time, I'm really loving The Moonbase, and wish the two missing episodes would resurface, or at least get re-animated (like The Invasion) one of these days.
It's a shame that there's not more Troughton's, but after watching Castrovalva again, I think Davison is my favourite Doctor. Throughton has been dethroned! Castrovalva is by far my favourite Doctor Who story, but its probably just personal nostalgia.
I hope you like Genesis of the Daleks. I'm rather surprised you like these old stories, but pleased that you do. How do you feel about these newer DVDs which generally have more bonus features that the 1st few I know you bought?
* But at the time (1982?) I can remember crying my little eyes out when Adric was blown-up. I was like Niagra Falls.

Oddly, I quite like the character, as he brings some semblance of reality to the show (in that you'll always have stupid-and-annoying-but-you-can't-help-but-love-them-after-all kind of way), and I was much more interested in the Cybermen of the story. Still, even though I had anticipated his death, it was still a shock when it happened. Throughout the entire story I kept thinking, "Poor kid's gonna die..." and when it happened right at the very end, I just dropped.2099net wrote:Everyone likes Earthshock... because Adric dies!in the Double Dip thread Escapay wrote:BTW, I watched City of Death a couple nights ago, so I understand your avatar!

Or maybe he does - it was just about the <strike>limit</strike> peak of his acting*. I'll have to watch the "now we'll never know" scene again.
* But at the time (1982?) I can remember crying my little eyes out when Adric was blown-up. I was like Niagra Falls.
Poor Troughton!netty wrote:It's a shame that there's not more Troughton's, but after watching Castrovalva again, I think Davison is my favourite Doctor. Throughton has been dethroned! Castrovalva is by far my favourite Doctor Who story, but its probably just personal nostalgia.
I'm kind of torn between Doctors at the moment. I know that the Tenth is my favorite of the new series (well, since there's only been two, it's hard to say one's a favorite over the other). But with the classic, I initially loved the Second and Fifth, based mainly on "The Five Doctors". But since I've been watching quite a few Tom Bakers, along with rewatching the three Davison ones I have (The Visitation, Earthshock, Five Doctors), it's a toss-up between those two.
I still have to watch Genesis of the Daleks, will likely be doing that today or tonight (either on the way to or from Rutgers today, on my trusty portable dvd player), but recently I've been in the mood for some Moulin Rouge, oddly.netty wrote:I hope you like Genesis of the Daleks. I'm rather surprised you like these old stories, but pleased that you do. How do you feel about these newer DVDs which generally have more bonus features that the 1st few I know you bought?
A part of me is really enjoying all the extras that are in the newer releases, especially since they're so well done and not fluffy and sparse as other TV extras (Seasons Three and Four of Lois & Clark come to mind, at least from my small TV collection). I still need to get the rest of Key to Time, if only to have Mary Tamm's complete run on the series, but I'm hoping it gets revisited properly by the restoration team, as well as The Five Doctors, and even Remembrance of the Daleks. I think, though, that I don't mind how the early releases don't have much compared to the new ones (like Vengeance on Varos versus City of Death, or Spearhead from Space versus Hand of Fear), becauase I find myself watching the stories more than the bonuses anyway. I mean, I know I'll be rewatching "Paris in the Springtime" every so often, but it was rather tedious for me to try and sit through "Scoring the Visitation", and I may not find myself watching it whenever I go through "The Visitation" (though I really enjoyed "Writing a Final Visitation"). I still wouldn't mind if some older titles got revisited (like the ones I already mentioned), but what's out now is fine by me.

Ooh, well I'd heard the rumour and I'll be interested to see how the dynamic of the "only Time Lord left" dealing with "turns out, you aren't alone, but the other one is evil" is treated. I reckon Conflict A-Go-Go is on the cards!
As for my Whovian practices of late, I've been a very naughty boy. I now have 3 DVDs piled up and ready to watch: The Invasion, which I am yet to see in any form, as will be keen to see how the animation plays out; Mark of the Rani, another which I think I've managed to miss and The Hand of Fear (which I've seen, but have yet to watch the DVD).
