Yes, so happy to recieve confirmation on a Spring 2008 release of 101 Dalmatians. I think the rest of the schedule is pretty obvious. Sleeping Beauty already has a 2 disc edition, so it will wait until 2009, which will also mark its 50th Anniversary. My guess is, along with most peoples guess, is that Pinocchio will recieve the October 2008 slot.

:) :) :) Yay!!!!!!! I also hope that "Pinocchio" is the Fall 2008 release. I'm really excited for "101 Dalmatians" coming out! I only have that one (and "Pinocchio", and "The Jungle Book", and "Peter Pan") on VHS, so I'll be glad to add it (and them) to my collection!

I wonder what the bonus features will be about? There definitely needs to be a mention of the Xerox process...that's a biggie.

Well, I too am very excited about the official confirmation of 101 Dalmatians coming in 2008. But, just food-for-thought, if people here are perfectionists or completists, judging by what's happening with Aristocats and Robin Hood, this PE will likely present 101D in widescreen. Being that this means actually loosing part of the picture, there are some people here who might want to have both the original full screen as well as widescreen. I personally have the LI of 101 Dalmatians, and I think it's a worthwhile purchase. I'm actually looking to get Jungle Book LI also if I see some sort of proof that Disney will release the Platinum in WS.

Personally, I think Pinocchio deserves the Platinum treatment a little more (and earlier!) than 101 Dalmatians. But, then again, I'm probably biased because I already have 101 Dalmatians on DVD (AND VHS), when I don't even own Pinocchio on VHS.  But I am happy that 101 Dalmatians is getting the treatment that it deserves.

Well, "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" was in the original 10 films to be in the Platinum Edition line, and therefore should be before "Pinocchio". On the other hand, look what happened for "Peter Pan". Disney is so unpredictable.

I know that it was one of the original 10 (and, on that note, only 2 of the original 10 have yet to get PE treament!! :D hooray!), but I think that (despite how much I really do love 101 Dalmatians), Pinocchio was superior to it in Animation, characters (even the villians. I know High School kids who still refuse to watch Pinocchio because Monstro scares the holy crap out of them. And, the donkey transformation scene scares many more!), and also better (well, not really better...more like more) songs. Also, not to mention, it needs the recognition as being the second DAC, released just 3 years after Snow White (and superior to it in almost every way). That's my reasoning as to why Pinocchio should be released before 101 Dalmatians. But, it's set in stone now that 101 Dalmatians will be first, so it will come in March 2008.

By the way, I've been wondering something. If Luke posted that the pamphlet in the Peter Pan PE stated this about 101 Dalmatians, is this a big nudge to all of us that he got the review copy already of Peter Pan? 8) (If yes, than Disney definately made a big step up from last year's Little Mermaid...remember Luke got the review copy like 3 days before the release?)

It's a big nudge that he got the PE, inspected it, and likely sent it off to Aaron who's reviewing it. ;)

Well, we probably have two options.

1. Aaron will get it, and take digi pics and post them asap since he knows how jumpy we all get for a new Platinum.

2. lighthousemike beats him to it.

If what you say is true, than WOOHOO!!! :D I'm excited! So far, Peter Pan is looking to be THE most disappointing Platinum yet, but I'm still giving it a chance to suprise us. :) And, not to mention, I'm just excited about reading another UD Disney DVD review (especially for another Platinum!), because I think they're the best around. :P

Not DVD. Eww. Buying DVDs in 2008. How archiac. How retro.

Did anyone not find it odd that, of that list of
"Titles Coming To Blu-Ray" Snow White was suspiciously missing.

Image

Missing, of course,
because it will be the first original Disney Classic to have the Blu-Ray treatment.

BluRay & HD-DVDs will be all the rage in 2008.

You may also notice that everything on that list above are
"recent" classics. Recent meaning they were re-released on Platinum DVD,
digitally restored & made nice n fresh.

And in the case of Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin & The Lion King,
thanks to their recent DVD "remastering" they are more than ready for a Blu-Ray digital conversion.

You'll notice also that Sleeping Beauty is pictured during that preview, primarily because it has been cleaned up in readiness for the Platinum Re-Release ( and will be cleaned up even more for its subsequent Blu-Ray release ).

The primary reason for having Nemo & Monsters Inc & all those crisp looking Pixar movies as their first run releases is to justify having just bought a Blu-Ray player by showing your wife how "clear the picture is"

What better way than those Pixar classics to highlight the crispness & clarity of a new format?

But what becomes of the classics like Sleeping Beauty & Snow White?

Shameful DVDs will be out out out.
But Blu-Ray will be In In In!

Once they are able to make the 65 year old Fantasia look crisp & amazing on a High Definition screen, you'll see it on Disney Blu-Ray.

Snow White on Blu-Ray in 2008 keeps the release in check with the
7 Year Morotorium rule, you see.

Time to save your pennies for Blu-Ray Players people
( or shameful PS3s ) if you're that way inclined.

Hooray for Disney Woo.
what do you think of my edited version of the promo pic for new disney blu-ray tiles?

also, i'm glad that my favorite 3 movies of all time are coming to blu-ray disc( Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, and The Little Mermaid)! yay. :D

So, "101 Dalmatians" won't be presented in its original aspect ratio? I know about the Matted/Unmatted thread, and I'm still confused. But, why wouldn't they release it in its original aspect ratio (I'm assuming it was in fullscreen originally, based on brotherbear's comment)...???

Well, no one knows for certain whether or not "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" will be matted or not. It would be beneficial if both the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio and the matted 1.75:1(most likely) versions were on the disc, but seeing the likes of "Robin Hood" and likely "The AristoCats" are in their matted forms, it is probable that "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" and the upcoming PE "The Jungle Book" will be matted.

Okay- in simple terms, is the "matted" the what-the-artists-wanted-the-movie-to-be-presented-in or is the "matted" the actual theatrical presentation version?

Well, it's pretty much both. The animator's created the movie in 1.33:1 aspect ratio, knowing that the film would be presented in a matted version. So the artists wanted the film to be presented in, say 1.75:1 aspect ratio, and theatrically that's how it was presented. It was presented in a matted form because movie theaters did not show any 1.33:1 movies in the 60's. I hope that that will make sense.
