HOPEFULLY Cars will not only loose money in cinemas but now also on DVD...

About the cover; I like the top part (not the "#1 in cinemas" text LOL) the bottom part of the cover is hideous... Looks like something from a PS game or somthing...

This has to be the most dissapointing cover and the most dissapointing Pixar release EVER!!

I also suggest people E-mail Pixar, and let them know that we are upset about this news of a single-disc release.

publicity@pixar.com

I sent them an E-mail, voicing my concerns, as well.

So you guys think this is what Disney is really planning to do is to release a single disc now, and then come out with a 2-disc later? How much later? Is i possible they just don't have enough time between now and the release date to really put together a good 2-disc set with the bonus features, yet they want to get something out by Xmas so they don't miss the sales?

We are set to buy at least 4 copies of this DVD upon release (assuming it makes it to the stores by Xmas). 3 copies as Xmas gifts and 1 copy for myself. Even if they only release it as a 1 disk this won't stop us from buying the 4 copies as planned. But I don't know if I will "double-dip" on the 2 disc later down the road.

Disneykid: What is this about Narnia? When the film came out some months ago there were 2 versions; I bought the deluxe version. Are you saying there's yet a 3rd version now?

Yes, Disney is releasing a Four-Disc Extended Edition, in two versions, on December 12th. You can read about it, here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/narnia-li ... lease.html

This makes the Special Two-Disc Collector's Edition completely worthless! Everything from that release is being used in the Four-Disc Extended Edition. This is another release that I will NOT be buying!

You know, Disney really is saving me a lot of money, lately. I've decided not to be pulled into their greed, so I've passed on Commander-In-Chief, because they decided to split the season into two sets, and now Cars is a single-disc release, which I will not be buying.

Well, it has already turned a profit in theaters and I doubt the cost of printing DVD copies won't offset the amount earned, but I know what you're saying and echo the sentiment. Double-dipping sucks.

I agree. Perhaps that is what everyone here is actually objecting to? No one has said specifically why the don't like this cover. For me it is way too busy. I think what would really be nice is just a plain solid black cover with the cars emblem right in the middle. Simple elegant and powerful:

I know, probably too simple for a DVD cover.

Count me in as one who will not buy the one discer. I hope lots of people don't and they sit on the shelves gathering dust until the inevitable 2 discer that CARS should be given its initial release. Of course I'm still waiting on my Lilo & Stitch SE, Spy Kids SE etc... but someday I'll have the last laugh.

I'll add my name to the list of those not buying this 1-discer. When will Disney get the idea to release something as it should be the first time. I will also gladly pass on the Narnia set. I will sit and gladly wait for the eventual 2-disk set.

Oh, and if we get the news of a Pirates 1-disc, then I'll be truly enraged.

I hope that all of you who are saying you will not be buying the single-disc release of Cars are E-mailing Disney and Pixar, to let them know this.

Disney: disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com

Pixar: publicity@pixar.com

If anyone has a number to contact Disney, and Pixar, please, post them in here. We need to let them hear our concerns. I am still waiting for a response to my E-mails.

I have just written a mail to both Disney and Pixar...

I hope everyone who is displeased about this release lets Disney AND Pixar know about this, who knows maybe this will speed up the 2 disc release...

I just sent a polite note to both Disney and Pixar as well. Also, remember, it wouldn't hurt to call Disney either. It will reach the same people, but it reinforces your request if you contact them both ways. I'll be doing that on Monday.

Wouldn't it be just as effective to buy the 1 disc and then don't buy the 2 disc? That would demonstrate that people who have already bought the 1 disc are not going to buy it twice..... (I suppose really big fans will buy both copies but there aren't that many people who will do that).

I don't know but no one answered my question; is it just possible that it takes longer than they have the time to compile all the special features and they don't want to miss out on the Xmas sales so they are rushing forward with the 1 disc? Or perhaps they NEVER intend to release it as a 2 disc?

No, it would not be just as effective to buy the single-disc release. If people want a two-disc release, then why buy a single-disc version? Especially when we know that there is plenty of material that can be presented on a two-disc release, which Disney surely already has planned.

Second, it's not that they haven't had enough time. In fact, these days, the DVD release of a film is being planned right along with the production of the film. Those responsible for Cars began talking about possible bonus features that could be included on the DVD, including home movies of the "road trips" that they took while producing the film, right as the film hit theaters. The Incredibles came to DVD four months after it debuted in theaters, and it was a two-disc release. A darn good one, at that!

What is happening is that Disney is taking a route that is now becoming very common, these days. Release a single-disc version, with few bonus features first, then, when promoting their next project, release a better version to coincide with the release of that project. In this case, we'll likely see a Two-Disc Collector's Edition of Cars, right about the time Ratatouille is going to hit theaters. That Two-Disc Collector's Edition of Cars will tout something related to Ratatouille, with ALL NEW bonus features never seen before. It's a marketing ploy, and it's meant to take even more of our hard earned money. Only thing is, more people are becoming wise to this scheme, and are tired of it. So, I'll just wait until a proper release can be given, before purchasing the film on DVD.

Now, I'm not saying that this is exactly what will happen with Cars on DVD, but, it's likely not too far off the mark.

What I am advocating, is that people should contact Disney and Pixar, and let them know that we aren't biting on this single-disc crap, and, that until they can give it a proper release, we won't buy it.

Sorry for my rant, but, this news has really got me ramped up. I hope that this helps you understand my point of view.

Actually I appreciate your long and reasoned response. You guys are the Disney DVD watching experts, so I trust your judgment.

I think phone calls and emails nudging them are going to be more effective in expressing your opinion on this than actually refusing to buy the DVD, but if this is Disney's way of maximizing the profitability on their DVD releases, they are not going to change their plans.

The average Disney consumer will not recognize that this was in the works as a marketing ploy and even if they knew that Disney was planning to re-release it as a 2-disc set later, they still will buy this for Xmas gifts for their kids, regardless.

this really does suck. though I dont think emailing them will change their mind. the decision is probably set in stone at this point. and disney isnt stupid, they know we would prefer a 2 disc set, but they dont care. they are going to release the one discer anyway.

Well th shocking thing about this, it that I'm not shocked. Although as some have said I think Disney will probably be releasing a 2 disc version somewhere in the future.

Although in all honesty I'm not really that bothered 1 disc or 2, I doubt I'll but Cars until it's at a bargain bucket price anyhow.
