The new release of Supergirl is just the movie, the commentary, and the trailer. Stick with your 2-disc from Anchor Bay.

Speaking of...do you got an extra you wanna get rid of and are willing to sell to some kind old soul in New Jersey (*cough* me! *cough*).

Ha, sorry, I wish I did. Is it that hard to find now? I guess I did buy it quite a while back. Fun little movie, even with the cheese factor. And, yeah, anything with Supergirl is pretty hot too.

Thanks for the info, by the way. At least that's one more DVD I don't have to buy!

On average, it sells in the $60-100 range on Amazon Marketplace, while e-bay has it either cheaper or more expensive (usually the cheaper ones are bootlegs). I've got my eye on one on e-bay that's at $30 right now, it looks legit and all, but I'm waiting till the last few hours to see if I should bid.

MadonnasManOne wrote:The massive boxed set (regardless of however many discs they have planned), is not happening this year. According to TheDigitalBits.com, America will get the 8-Disc Christopher Reeve Collection, plus the individual releases of Superman II: The Richard Donnor Cut and Supergirl. They state that the boxed set is still being planned, but, it's likely not going to come out until further down the line.
Well, until the proper Superman Returns press release is issued, I don't believe this. It's not Warner's way. I'd be very disappointed is Warners did this - its a lot to ask a consumer to buy a 14 disc set, when 8 (or 9) have already been released. I mean, I can't see them adding to the content of the Superman movies. At least with the Matrix box set, most of the discs had all new content... even the movies in the form of commentaries. Warner obviously cannot do this for the Superman films, given how supplement heavy the 8(9) disc set is.

It would create so much bad press for Warners to expect people who have bought a smaller set to then buy the bigger one 6 months later.

I find it strange Amazon don't have any of the new Superman films releases up for order, yet the other November Superman releases are (Lois and Clark S4 and the old Movie serials), despite those titles being announced later! It makes me think one big promotional push is expected when Superman Returns is finally revealed, and something big is still be be made known.

Upadate: Amazon, DVDPlanet and Deep Discount DVD - even Best Buy and Wal*Mart - do not have any of the new superman films up for pre-order (but have the other November Super-titles), or the CR Collection. There's definitely something strange going on... normally the online stores would be falling over themselves to put up a high profile boxset for pre-order.

Warner Brothers has finally announced the DVD release of Superman Returns, and yes, it will be released on the same day as the Christopher Reeve Collection (11/28/2006). It will be available in separate widescreen and full-screen editions ($28.98) as well as a 2-disc Special Edition ($34.98).

Warner hasn't finalized specs yet but the 2-disc Edition will have deleted scenes and a 3-hour Superman Returns documentary (the single-disc editions will be featureless), and hopefully a commentary. Artwork can be seen at DVD Active.

I checked DVD Active, they've got the cover art for Supergirl (which is horribly plain), but nothing for Superman Returns.

Huh. They must've posted it too early and WB asked them to take it down until the appropriate time...

Anyway, my futile quest to find Supergirl: Limited Edition (from Anchor Bay) at a reasonable price is even more futile, as the listing I'm watching on e-bay is currently at $51.99, a bit too pricy for me. Ends in an hour and a half, so I'm still mulling over if I want to pay a lot for a 2-disc set of a movie that's really not worth more than $30.

ETA: Poo. It's up to $70 and the auction ends in like 45 minutes. Damn.

AAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

After changing my 12 disc tin order to a 9 disc tin order (which is no longer on their site) Choices have now added a new 13 disc tin entry to their website.

Well, I see Ezy have added the International 13 disc set to their website (after Choices re-added it the other day)

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/790083

So I'm happy that PAL countries will be getting the big set.

Play has finally moved the 13 disc set out of "to be announced..." to pre-order status. That's it. I'm convinced the PAL set is Go Go Go! for December 4th :D

Yeah, that really puts those Photoshopped cover art for the 8-disc Christopher Reeve Collection to shame. I don't know why Warner is on a roll with this horrible art for the Superman DVDs... they're either doing this on purpose or they need to hire a new graphic artist for their DVDs.

The original art featured on the trailer for the "Superman II Donner Cut" was much better (and actually good) and Warners just did a bad mistake by scrapping it for someone's hack job of a cover. It really puts the airbrushed cover of "Supergirl" to shame.

Well, at least what's on the discs that count, I suppose. Sheesh, all this complaining about the cover art and Warners hasn't bothered to change any of them.

This whole release is just plain messed up. It's very frustrating, because they still haven't officially announced Superman Returns, yet. It WAS posted as coming out on November 28th, at www.dvdactive.com , then they took the article down, only to bring it back, but, the date is now listed as TBA.

One minute we are getting the 14-Disc box set, the next we aren't. It's all very frustrating. Not to mention the most horrible cover art I've EVER seen. They have really screwed this up, and I'm not nearly as excited for it as I originally was.

Holy crap, that cover's hideous! I'm actually one of the few to think the covers for the Superman SEs and the 2-Disc Superman Returns are decent (though they admittedly look very Photoshoppish). There's no question about how awful the Richard Donner cut of SII is, though. I agree with Azul that the cover used in the DVD trailer was much better. This, on the other hand, looks like a cheap knockoff or bootleg. Bah.

Based on the specs I've seen floating around for Superman Returns, this looks to be the best 2-Disc set WB's done for a new release in a long time. Lately their second discs have been anemic. My only quibble is the lack of commentary, but I know it's because they're doing their special video commentary thing instead for the HD-DVD.

I agree about the Superman SE's, they look nice, though obviously photoshopped. But the Donner cut one is Hideous with a capital H. I also hate the stupid "The Version You Have Never Seen" tag. While it's true, it's a corny line, and I always associate it with the Exorcist extended version.

Yeah, the IME looks really impressive, I remember when DigitalBits had some screencaps for the IME on Batman Begins. I can easily see it as one of the benefits of the higher-definition formats, that things like this can ultimately make movie-watching a more interactive activity. *Sigh*, if only it were a regular feature for DVDs (though picture-in-picture commentary is close, but not really the same thing).

DVDActive.com has now posted that the release date for Superman Returns is, as previously announced, November 28th. They have updated with the complete front and back cover art, plus the specs are listed for the Two-Disc Special Edition. I can't wait for this release!
