I know!! that should be the way of management of the banners, but unfortunately they are not used on that way, because for example LATT has a silver banner an obviously this is not a fairy tale, and then TLM is a fairy tale and it has a blue banner that looks great, but if they want to follow a pattern it should be silver.MickeyMousePal wrote:Platinum Banners are sliver for fairly tales and yellow if they are based on animals tales.

The Little Mermaid Platinum Cover and Banner
Personally I think the banner looks more green, like an aqua. Whatever color you call it, it really fits, and it would look nice, but I'd rather have all the Platinum Edition banners be the same color. I'm even a little mad that The Lion King and Bambi got gold banners. Platinum is a silver-white metallic element, so I think the Platinum banner should be a silver color. I'm guessing the only reason Bambi and The Lion King had gold banners is because it fit more with the colors on the rest of the cover.Tarzan. wrote:What do you prefer the blue banner or the silver banner, that is used in almost all the Platinums?, in my case I love the the blue banner, but disney may change it, like they did with the yellow banner for LATT.
If The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition cover has a different colored banner from all the rest, then that will be very inconsistent. Disney should make all the Platinum Edition banners either be all different colors or be all one color. I think they should all be the platinum(silver) color, even if it doesn't match well(and they could always design the colors of the cover to match the silver banner, like have the cover for Bambi be set in the forest at night).

That's EXACTLY why I don't want the cover to be under the sea. The whole theme of the movie, the whole story, it's a yearning for another world, for the world above the sea.stitcharielbeast wrote:and for the one who complained about the cover being under the sea, FOR GOD'S SAKE it's the reason the movie was so memorable in the first place!!!! it's UNDER THE SEA!!!!!

Yes, the standard 2-disc edition will be marketed for kids while the gift set will be for the collector. But Disney has proved that they can give tasteful cover art to a "children's" film. Look at the cover art for films like Peter Pan SE, Beauty and the Beast PE, Tarzan CE, TENG UGCE. All very tastefully done covers for films that appeal to both children and adults. Peter Pan SE simply has Peter Pan and Tink against a background of Hook's ship in the water. Beauty and the Beast has a dark and gothic background to counter the cuteness of the sidekicks and the romantic longings between Belle and the Beast. Tarzan and TENG just rock.
People often confuse what a Disney film at its heart is: a movie for the family. Not solely children.Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:THIS MOVIE IS FOR C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N!!!!!!!!!
Why should I spend upwards $10-$15 more for a gift set just so I can get a more "adult" cover? I personally don't care for the gift sets (a book I'll hardly read, a piece of film I keep in the box collecting dust, etc.). I want the DVD. I can complain about the cover art all I want. And unfortunately, the same kiddie coverart on the standard release will be the cover art on the DVD within the "adult" gift set box. I'm screwed either way, so I might as well complain about it or design my own and print it out and use the other one as kindling for a fire.Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:If you like the movie only because it brings back memories, buy the collector's gift set that is more sophisticated!

I think the cover is wonderful. Everything seems to be in perfect concert with each other - the images, the colors, and the text. It's gorgeous!

There is not. And before you ask, your off-topic avatar/fluff post questions have been separated into a new thread:TheSequelofDisney wrote:Do you think that there will be a different preview on the Lady and the Tramp DVD?

The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition Cover: Land and Sea
One big reason people love The Little Mermaid is that so much of it takes place in a beautiful world under the sea. The beams of sunlight seen from underwater, the majestic, shining King Triton's castle, the palette of cool colors, the rippling effects, the bubbles, the ocean plants waving... It's true that the movie is about Ariel's love for the land above the sea, but you have to include both that land and the sea. And that's exactly what the cover we've seen so far does. It is set half underwater with Flounder, Sebastian, King Triton and Ursula, and half above the water with Ariel and Prince's Eric's ship. That's why I think this cover is excellent. It has both the land and sea. Ariel's love for the shore comes from her always being kept under the sea. This cover shows that there is a sea which she doesn't care for and a shore which she yearns for.

Ultimately, this is an issue of taste and money. You buy what you like or complaint about everything due to lack of money to buy what you want.

I really don't think that people complain about everything because they lack the money to buy what they want. This is a thread about cover art. Pretty much everyone who has posted in it will be buying this DVD, regardless of what's on the cover. They complain or praise because they like the artwork and/or think it does/doesn't represent the movie.reyquila wrote:Ultimately, this is an issue of taste and money. All I can say is, there really isn't anything Disney can mock up that'll satisfy everyone. (I for one liked the old Toy Story cover.) I think by saying the cover is too "childish" is really because Ariel is too happy on it. By her looking down under the sea (with a happy face) gives a sense that she loves being in the ocean and have no intentions on living above the water. Which is why I think people are disliking the cover.
The old theatrical posters (in watercolor painting) will never be on a Platinum Edition cover, Disney is trying to be "hip" with their dvds and with whatever they do now.

The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition Cover: Land and Sea
First of all, I agree with you that Disney can't satisfy everyone with their covers. Second, I see what you mean about Ariel looking down at the sea with a happy face, giving the impression she loves the sea. I think it's more because she loves Flounder, Sebastian, and her father, who are down there in the sea. But whatever the reason she's looking at the sea happily, the impression that she loves the sea could easily(and hopefully will) be fixed by having her eyes look outward or upward.magicalwands wrote:All I can say is, there really isn't anything Disney can mock up that'll satisfy everyone. Escapay, don't you see that the cover has both the sea and the surface, showing both worlds? Don't you think that's a good idea for the cover, instead of just being set on the surface? The movie takes place half under the sea and above it. A lot of people like the movie because it takes them under a beautiful, fantastical sea.

Re: The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition Cover: Land and Sea
That's the impression I got when I saw the coverart. I mean, we see both worlds; it's obvious Disney is trying to please everyone with this cover. Plus, Ariel is above the sea, which means that she's clearly more fascinated with the shore than the ocean. It's good contrast since we get to see her life underwater and her life above it. The only people I thought would be disappointed with this cover are Eric and Scuttle fans.Disney Duster wrote:Escapay, don't you see that the cover has both the sea and the surface, showing both worlds? Plus, if they only put the shore on the cover, Disney can't put Flounder or Triton on it. And we know that Disney can't make a cover without getting every character in it.

I think that it is almost sure that it will have one, because this is a great movie and also all the platinum movies that are released in october since TLK have one.brownie wrote:I think I missed something..so is there going to be a collector's gift box?
